Sep 22, 2014 6:14 PM in response to HeloHawkby 12fretter,do a google search on downgrading to 7.1.2. You can download the firmware and follow the instructions. Apple forum won't allow the pasting of the link. try idownloadblog if you can't find anything.

Sep 22, 2014 7:24 PM in response to adriennefromwashingtonby BrianF,Ok, we iPad 2 users found a bug. Everyone who has this issue needs to report this directly to Apple. Posting on this forum is not reporting it to Apple.
In my case, restarting the iPad fixes the issue for awhile. I cannot say how long or what makes it stop communicating as I have not done extensive testing. And for me I do not need to do a hard restart. A standard shutdown and startup works for me.
For those who want to post saying the iPad 2 does not support IOS 8 keep it to yourselves. It's not helpful and is a moot point since if people are on this thread, then they have already upgraded. The iPad 2 is a supported device, but minimum requirements does not mean optimum requirements.
My iPad 2 ran slow under IOS 7, and I see no negative speed difference so far. If anything, some functions actually are faster. I find my iPad does run a bit faster if I leave a few gigs of free space. I do know that my iPad does start faster.
Good luck all of you and I hope we either find a fix ourselves or Apple releases an update.
Brian

Sep 22, 2014 8:32 PM in response to patricklawby trevorfromoakpark,After upgrading yesterday here in Australia and experiencing the same issues - no 3G after lock - only hard reset returns connectivity and then only temporarily - I've been doing a bit of experimentation.
I have one suggestion that appears to have improved - I won't say fixed - my situation, but would like others to try it to confirm whether it makes a difference to them.
I have gone into the settings under Cellular Data for Carrier and turned off Automatic Carrier Selection, and after the list of available carriers is populated explicitly selected my SIM's carrier. That then immediately re-instated my connectivity without a "hard reset" so I'm wondering whether this issue is related to automatic carrier detection?
I also then locked the iPad and left it for some time, and sure enough I had connectivity once unlocked. So it's far from conclusive proof - I only changed this setting 30 minutes ago - but I thought I'd offer this as a suggestion to others in this thread in case it assists.

Sep 22, 2014 9:19 PM in response to trevorfromoakparkby trevorfromoakpark,I have a further update on this issue. While using the iPad 2, and with the Carrier name still showing - Telstra 3G - and with 5 Bars / 5 Dots of coverage - I lost connectivity again.
I went into settings. The Carrier was still showing Telstra Mobile which is what I had set it to after turnning off automatic, but the when I went into the setting, the Carrier List wasn't populated, and needed to be enumerated. When it was, sure enough Telstra Mobile was the one checked, and when I exited out of the settings, connectivity had been restored.
Once again, I think this tends to point towards this issue relating to carrier list detection on the 3G iPad 2. But precisely what is causing it, I'm not sure.

Sep 22, 2014 10:47 PM in response to patricklawby westcoast_skier,My iPad2 was doing the same. I have reset all settings and then re-entered everything but it didn't fix it. I noticed battery was down around 30%. I started charging it and now it connects to cellular without a problem. Whereas before I noticed anytime coming off a lock screen the "No Service" status was back and would have to soft reset to get it back. Could it be a power/battery thing?

I lost cellular data on my iPad 2 with AT&T after I upgraded to IOS 8. Mine says No Service. If I restart it comes back for a little while then goes away again. ARGH, I reset network service with the same result.

Sep 22, 2014 11:31 PM in response to adriennefromwashingtonby vin20miglia,Same problem with my iPad2 in Italy with Vodafone carrier. I have often “No service” indicator displayed and my iPad is very slow! For example, Safari and keypad not responding.
Apple do something!!! Isn't possible working in this situation.

Sep 22, 2014 11:57 PM in response to vin20migliaby trevorfromoakpark,I would like to suggest you try my suggestion above - change your carrier selection to manual and select Vodafone. For me here in Australia, changing from Automatic Carrier selection to Manual and then selecting the correct carrier has given me an afternoon of pretty much normal activity without having to constantly re-start. But that is just my experience - it may differ for others. I'd be interested to see if others get anywhere by changing that setting on other carriers, as it might provide further evidence of just what is the root cause of this problem.
The bottom line of course is however, Apple should fix it properly! But this might be a short term workaround.

Sep 23, 2014 1:04 AM in response to tasdevil13by tasdevil13,Hi guys,
as I haven't heard any positive comment here from some Apple official, I guess, we are out alone with our problem.
The iPad2 is ways too old for them to care anymore and we are supposed to buy a new device. That's the way it works.
For my side, I have realized, I will buy a new device. I will "follow the white rabbit" and choose a different matrix for my online needs.
I was really happy with my Apple device, but now, I will definitely try out the alternatives.
Good bye!

Sep 23, 2014 3:15 AM in response to trevorfromoakparkby SirKuma,Confirm trevorfromoakpark's suggested fix has worked for me this afternoon.
If it is showing NoService then reset ipad until it does, then select Carrier in Settings and do as suggested.

Sep 23, 2014 3:28 AM in response to SirKumaby trevorfromoakpark,Excellent SirKuma. Very good to hear that has worked for you as well - at least so far.
I'm not in any way suggesting that this is a good situation at all, and in fact I've just been looking at the various steps around that describe "downgrading" back to iOS 7.1.2 ... and I think it's appalling that iOS 8 can be released and make such a fundamental piece of functionality on a supported device, the iPad 2 so unusable. But, if this workaround gets us people going again.
But I am keen to hear if others find similar results to what I found.
BTW, I'm finding the performance of iOS 8 on my old iPad 2 pretty awful as well. The lag after a double tap on the Home Button is atrocious. Waiting for the App Switcher to come up is extraordinarily slow, and on occasions I think it's not even acknowledged the gesture.
However reading the various processes to "downgrade" - using the still accessible .IPSW file does not fill me with confidence either. In iTunes, I can only see the most recent backup - clearly an iOS 8 Backup of my iPad. I can't see any earlier ones, but I can't tell whether that's because they are iOS 7.1.2 versions and are hidden, or because they've been lost. And given a number of Apps appear to have made "breaking" changes - i.e. they are no longer compatible with iOS 7.1.2, I'm uncertain whether they would operate on the earlier OS should I get back there successfully - such as Pages, KeyNote etc - I say this because they certainly can't be updated to my venerable old iPhone 4.
I almost fear I'm stuck on iOS 8 now, on this now clearly underpowered iPad 2 hardware, for better or for worse. The bug about the cellular is bad enough, but I actually wish Apple simply hadn't included these aged devices in the compatibility list. I really don't think they have the grunt for this new OS.
