Sep 24, 2014 2:16 PM in response to Adriennefromwashingtondcby Okbart,So seeing that Apple has pulled iOS 8, does this mean that we just have to wait till they come up with a fix for us? I don't want to spend any more time on this at present if ultimately I need to wait for an Apple fix anyhow. One question: If you do success in going back to the latest version of iOS 7, doesn't that screw up the interaction with apps, etc?

Sep 24, 2014 2:30 PM in response to Okbartby trevorfromoakpark,Hi Okbart,
I think the report being referred to is referring to reports that the update iOS 8.01 was briefly released, and then pulled after it created more issues.
I have reverted to iOS 7.1.2 on mine, and it was painful, because I'd been imprudent, and had mistaken the backup taken at the start of a Sync with a separate backup I should have taken before the iOS 8 upgrade began.
When I did "downgrade" to iOS 7.1.2 I was left with an unstable iPad, and my only alternative was to "Erase all Content and Settings" - essentially return to Factory Settings and then transcribe all Apps, Books, Photos, etc. etc. again. I think this is understandable - the settings, and some Apps had been upgraded by the iOS 8 upgrade, and they were still in place.
But it is now stable and performing twice as fast as it was under iOS 8, so I'm happy again, and have no intention of upgrading. I may well blog about the experience of the upgrade and subsequent downgrade in a bit greater detail, not only to document it for my own benefit, but to record in greater detail the whole process.
In the longer term I'll wait until I replace the iPad2 with a newer model to get to a later OS.

Sep 25, 2014 9:07 PM in response to Indy Engby littleoski,I also made the mistake of upgrading my ipad 2 to ios 8, and now cannot connect to the Verizon network. I've restored the ipad multiple times, but still no luck. I'll keep checking this thread for other ideas, but may have a trip to the apple store. However, I think I'll hold off buying an iphone for now. My contract is up, but am not happy with apple after this upgrade fiasco.

Sep 25, 2014 9:23 PM in response to Tuvby trevorfromoakpark,Hi to all have applied 8.0.2., and have gotten their Cellular connectivity back,
I know it might be a bit early, and it's great news that 8.0.2. has fixed the cellular issues for iPad 2 users. But my question would be what's the performance like? As much as the Cellular issues were clearly the killer problem, the other thing that convinced me to move back to 7.1.2. the other night was what I thought was atrocious performance while doing everyday mundane things - even when various workarounds had my Cellular up, or when I had WiFi connectivity at home - things like getting the focus into text boxes on Browser Pages, the time it took for double clicks on the Home Button to be responded to. Can anyone report as to the sense they have as to the relative performance of the now upgraded iPad 2 under 8.0.2., because I'm still wary of attempting to upgrade for the relatively few features I've seen so far accessible to us "legacy hardware owners" - i.e. iPad 2 owners - for what appears to be a big performance penalty.
Anyway, interested in peoples' perceptions over the coming days re iPad 2 performance under iOS 8.0.2 and above.
My two daughters have already updated their iPad Airs to iOS 8 and love things like the voice iMessages. Shame their Dad doesn't have as sophisticated an iPad as they do!

Sep 25, 2014 9:25 PM in response to cali71awby Aquitaine77,But the question is DID it fix the loss of cellular service?????

Sep 25, 2014 9:30 PM in response to Aquitaine77by trevorfromoakpark,Good Point ... I was taking TUV's comment as an indication that it did ... I guess we better wait until we get further confirming evidence that it has solved everyone's issues with cellular of course. I've got to say that I would take a lot of convincing to upgrade again on my aging iPad 2 - I just don't see the motivation at this stage.

Sep 25, 2014 10:43 PM in response to trevorfromoakparkby SirKuma,Still wary of any upgrades until I hear the champagne popping from all over the place, but did manage to achieve stable performance on the original 8.0 upgrade eventually. Plugging the IPad into the laptop and letting iTunes sync with it helped a fair bit. Logging into iCloud in Settings and entering the password (twice) as it kept losing it and logging out helped. Removing Safari from ICloud data improved the speed of apps, as if it was checking back with iClouds all the times to see if content could be used.

Sep 26, 2014 8:20 AM in response to SirKumaby Okbart,Yes, trevor, I am concerned about performance as well. I've decided to sit here with my iOS 8 upgrade, without .0.1 or .0.2 downloaded, still no cellular, and wait until at least next week before I either upgrade with the .0.2 patch or, conversely, attempt to go back to 7. I would need to be "walked through" going back to 7, as I have little confidence in my troubleshooting/decision-making along the way, and, needs be, will necessitate a call to Apple. Luckily, I use my iPad mostly at home where I have wireless, so it's not a huge problem for me at present. I will say that my iPad does seem to be a little more responsive than earlier this week (may be wishful thinking).
SIrkuma, how do you remove Safari from iCloud data?

Sep 26, 2014 8:45 AM in response to trevorfromoakparkby regalturner,I installed the .02 patch last night and now have a full cellular connection - uninterrupted after nearly 12 hours. My iPad 2 is running quite well, so don't know what could be causing performance issues for others. My fingers are crossed - and I am glad that Apple finally responded to the cries from the wilderness.
