"This app is no longer shared with you" message in Family Sharing

My daughter installed Minecraft PE through Family Sharing. When she tries to open it, she gets a warning message "This app is no longer shared with you. To use it, you must buy it from the App Store."

When she views it in the app store, it tells her she can download it for free because a family member has already purchased it. So she downloads it, and the cycle continues.

Any idea how to exit this loop?

While I can't 100% confirm I have fixed my issue with "this app is no longer shared with you", (despite trying everything in this thread), I think I'm a step closer.

I'm the owner of the purchasing account in our family. There's another three adults in our family sharing account. When we started seeing "this app is no longer shared with you", it corresponded with a problem when none of us could see each other's purchases in App Store > Updates > Purchases > Family Member's Name.

On a whim, I created a new Child Account for a make-believe daughter via Settings > iCloud > Create An Apple ID For A Child. After a reboot of all of our phones we are able to see each other's purchases and deleting and re-downloading offending apps seems to have fixed them.

It's now 2017 and suddenly, my wife had this same problem. I followed your steps and it worked fine. There were no updates, but I just installed one App from my account, logged out, logged her back in, and all of her Apps worked again with no loss of data. Her 800+ consecutive wins in the Solitaire Daily Challenge are still intact and she's very happy! Thank You!

Same issue here. I have an iPad that was originally under my AppleID that I moved to another AppleID and added to Family Share. I now get the very same error message and cannot add the application from the App Store. (In this case it's FIND MY FRIENDS and it downloads and then instantly reverts to being available to download again). Find my iPhone is exhibiting the same behavior.

So... I went through and started deleting and reinstalling apps under the new Apple ID (not the one that I use for Family Sharing that was previously on the iPad in question). After I deleted and reinstalled a few apps, namely Pinterest, and 500px, everything seems to be working now.

All apps seem to be working and updating as they should.

Here's how I managed to fix the issue. The issue first appeared after I moved one of my iPads over to my son's iTunes account. From that point onward, every app that was updated got the error "This app is no longer shared with you".

  1. I removed all the offending apps. It was pretty much every one of them that was updated post iOS 8.
  2. I signed out of the App Store in the Settings > iTunes & App Store settings page.
  3. I opened the App Store app. Went to the "Purchases" page and signed in again with my son's Apple ID.

At this point, the app store seems to have realized that I was signed in with a new account and let me "re-buy" the offending apps. I didn't actually have to buy them since they were bought by another account on Family Sharing.

Same thing happened to me. All evening I've playing with settings, turning things on and off, deleting the apps and trying to get them again and no go. I then found someone who said they had the same problem on their iPhone but not on their iPad and that restoring their iPhone solved the problem. So, I restored my daughter's iPod Touch through iTunes, and then set it up from back up (I had a back up I just did earlier this evening prior to updating her Touch to iOS 8.0.2 from 7.x) and now I can download the shared apps from the cloud without the "someone has already downloaded this click ok to download for free". And they open without the other error "this app is no longer shared with you".
