Oct 14, 2014 7:27 PM in response to elhombrealtoby JUN-HIBINO,It definitely sounds like a bug to me, has anyone already reported this to Apple?

Oct 17, 2014 8:13 PM in response to JUN-HIBINOby MWS1354,So glad to finally find others who have this problem! I just downloaded iOS 8 and thought everything was fine until the iOS 7 homepage didn't work. I then updated to the iOS 8 homepage only to have the "radar" icons. I will try the language trick! Thanks!

Oct 21, 2014 6:05 AM in response to michael rfromchicagoby rchweidan,... and unbelievably, the bug is still there in IOS 8.1! Come on Apple - you are better than this!

Oct 21, 2014 10:27 AM in response to michael rfromchicagoby Pblue220,I also had the icon problems on my IPad 2 from ios 8. Hoping that 8.0.1, 8.02 and finally 8.1 would fix it but no !! Overnight 8.1 again 50% reverted to "targets". I used the English to English trick mentioned earlier and they have come back. Thanks everyone .
I'm not holding my breath as it is likely to revert back.
Also Safari locks up or is very tardy in it's response.
Come on Apple

Oct 27, 2014 4:09 PM in response to elhombrealtoby Rabou,Formidable! Cela marche aussi en français! Merci elhombrerealto, you saved me from the tedium of changing these icons over and over again back to their original state. Hey, Apple do you copy or are you just ignoring us? I liked you better way back in 1984 when you were the new underdog on the block with your funny little beige box and postage-stamp sized b&w screen called Macintosh. You listened to us then and we "evangelized" for you in return. Now, YOU are Big Brother, you've become too rich, too arrogant and too complacent to pay attention to the rest of us....

Nov 2, 2014 3:03 AM in response to viczigby ctethompson,A more simple method is to swich to bold text and then back to normal text in - general - accessibility section of settings.
Your phone will do a partial restart but only takes a few seconds.
This causes the system to do a screen refresh similar to the language change method but a lot quicker.
Hope this helps.

Nov 20, 2014 12:09 PM in response to ctethompsonby Charles Zimmerman2,If one must switch from standard US English to another language, the monolinguists among us can simply switch to UK or Australian English. 97% should be able to find their way back to their mother tongue.

Nov 26, 2014 9:06 PM in response to michael rfromchicagoby Charley'sMom,When I updated my iPad earlier this month (November 2014) I didn't lose icons, but I did lose ALL of the items on my lengthy reading list - and ALL of my bookmarked sites. I searched the Internet for ideas on how to retrieve them and found a LOT of people had the same thing happen to them. I keep looking and hoping but I'm afraid I'm going to have to rebuild them. Just a thought, but do you think it would do any good to send Apple a bill for our time doing the rebuildS? I hear they have a few dollars in their kitty. Maybe they would be more careful writing upgrades! HA!
(Apologies that my post didn't add any helpful information to your dilemma, but I think it's curious that people have lost all sorts of data - and different types of data. Could it have something to do with WHEN we updated? (Ok, go ahead and chuckle over that one - you can probably tell I'm no techie! Just an extremely frustrated user). No more bookmarked site list, no more reading list, but a big ol' gray panel that covers 1/3 of my screen in landscape view! THANK YOU, APPLE!

Dec 29, 2014 6:50 PM in response to michael rfromchicagoby rinron,Same thing here. I just changed languages from English to French ; the icons didn't return for me. So changed back to English. Surely there's an Apple geek out there who can help with this BUG.

Jan 14, 2015 7:26 AM in response to elhombrealtoby rsaddey, elhombrealto you are a magician!
Even those icons, whose sources are no longer available (or are temporarilly unavailable as they require a VPN to be accessed) have been restored immediatlely and persist after having reverted to the prior language!
Thanks a lot,
Reiner

I recently switched on passcode (due to sensitive remote desktop logins). Now, each time the iPad is power-cycled, icons are lost...
