Problems with Airplay in iOS 8?

Anybody else lost the ability to stream audio to a third party speaker or receiver since upgrading to iOS 8? I have an Airplay compatible Pioneer receiver that I used to stream music to from my iPhone 5S without issue. Since upgrading to iOS 8, it's no longer an option in Control Center. Using iTunes on my MacBook Air, it still works fine. The receiver pops right up as an Airplay option and the music streams as it should.

So, I know it's not a wifi issue or anything wrong with my Pioneer receiver. I've started seeing this same issue pop up on some third party support sites from users who've upgraded to iOS 8 but haven't seen anything here on the Apple forums yet.

Hoping I'm not alone ... any ideas?

iI've been having similar difficulties with my iPad 2 - here's something I've had success with ( until Apple provides a fix):

Set-up your audio/video to stream as normal.

When inevitably nothing happens, access the AirPlay settings on the Apple TV

Switch off AirPlay

Switch it straight back on

Access AirPlay on your device, and select your AppleTV output

your audio/video will now play as normal.

Give it a try!

Hi

I am having the same "Airplay not showing in control center" problem since I upgraded to iOS 8.

My devices :

iPhone 5S (iOS 8.1.2), iPad 4 (iOS 8.1.2), iPad Mini (1st generation) (iOS 8.1.2), and iPhone 4S (iOS 8.1.2)

My Airplay receivers:

Airport Express 802.11n (2nd generation), Sony CMT-BT80W Radio and Philips AD7000W speaker

I never had any problem with airplay on my personal network with iOS 7.

Nothing changed on my network or wi-fi configuration. Only updated to iOS 8.

I followed Apple suggestions on support page about Airplay problems :

http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS4215

It did not help at all.

With my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.5) I always see my 3 Airplay speakers without any problem.

Any help Apple ?

I think Denon and Marantz receivers really fritzed out with iOS 8.1.1. Take a look at this forum
: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/1470664-official-mara ntz-nr1604-owners-thread-29.html#post29942921

My issue is similar:

So I could stream music with no trouble from my iPhone to my Marantz 1504 until recently. And I still can from my PC to my Marantz.

But when I try from my phone now, it hangs for bitm then the Marantz display screen says 'Connecting...', then 'Assigning...'. Then it fails entirely and goes to the generic networkUser uploaded file screen,

I can't say that this happened exactly when I downloaded iOS 8.1.1, but this behavior did crop up afterward.

Did this happen to anyone? Is there are solution - other then to wait for iOS 8.2?

Work-Around: Install and run Airport Utility

My specific issue/setup: All three iPhones in my house haven't given us the AirPlay option for playing music. iPhone6Plus, iOS 8.1.2, Airport Express (original) running an extended network for AirPort Extreme (newer tower model), with the original Bose Sounddock plugged into the APExpress via audio cable.

Work-around Details: I have no idea why it works, but simply installing Airport Utility (which I find utterly useless otherwise) and running it seems to help the phones recognize my setup and instantly gives me the AirPlay option back.

I may have declared victory too early. Airplay to my pioneer only works briefly after I reset the network, like when changing the wifi settings. Soon thereafter my ipads can't see the receiver anymore. Strange enough, my Apple TV is shown consistantly, it's just my receiver that disappears. And ever stranger is that my iPhone 6 can see both.. So it's an apple software problem, and am hoping they fix it soon.

I have an iPad 3 running iOS 8.1.2. I have a Yamaha RXV475 a/v receiver capable of AirPlay, and an AppleTV, 1080p Model A1469 running software version 7.0.2. I also have a MacBook and an iMac and two iPhones. I am using WPA2 on a Verizon FiOS wireless access point. I was having lots of trouble getting all of the various devices to show AirPlay connections to both the AppleTV and the Yamaha receiver. There were multiple issues. First, I was not logged in to iTunes on all of the devices with the same iTunes account. Fixed that. Then I needed to reset all of the settings on my AppleTV (not all the way back to factory reset) and set that all up again. Make sure all of the devices have home sharing turned on from the same Apple account. Make sure the Remote App on the mobile devices show show both the AppleTV and the Yamaha. This was supposed to happen automatically but in some cases I needed to delete the Remote App from the mobile devices and re-install it. Once I did all this, all of the devices showed both the AppleTV and the Yamaha in AirPlay EXCEPT for the iPad. Nothing that I did seemed to get the iPad to enable it for AirPlay. I have the Yamaha AV remote app on the iPad and that worked just fine. Still no AirPlay. I updated the firmware on the Yamaha. Still no AirPlay. I scrolled through this particular forum looking for solutions and none of the suggestions that were made worked, or were applicable to my configuration., i.e., changing the language and changing it back, resetting all your network connections on the mobile device, etc. Somewhere there was a suggestion that a third party music app might help. I have Tango remote player for iPad and that was working correctly but still no AirPlay. Someone else might have suggested Spotify, of which I am not a user. So I downloaded Spotify to the iPad, et voilà, AirPlay to the Yamaha appears on the iPad. I did not even need to log into Spotify. Folks from Apple may not want to hear that Spotify fixed their software issue, but it worked.

Hi,

Are people still experiencing the same issues with AirPlay and Pioneer receivers? I purchased a Pioneer receiver and my Iphone 6 and iPad (both running iOS 8.1.2) can both 'see' the receiver, will connect for a number of seconds, and then drop off and refuse to reconnect.

Internet radio is working fine on the receiver, so I know that there is no issue in the receiver connecting to my network.

I have also tried to connect an iPhone 5S with iOS 7 and am experiencing the same issues in connecting.

AirPlay from iPhone/iPad to Apple TV is working fine, but when I paid for a receiver with AirPlay functionality built in, I would expect it to work!

I was having the same problem with this. Finally I thought that maybe the receiver needed a firmware update, so I went to the Pioneer website, found the model of the pioneer receiver I have and found the update. Downloaded it, extracted it with 7Zip (the update is zipped so you need to unzip it. 7Zip is free) then I put it in a USB flash drive and conected it to the receiver. On the remote control I push the Network button until I got to the NetRadio page and then push the Home button on the controller, it brings you to the firmware update page, click start and don't remove the flash drive until it says complete on the receiver. After it was done I waited about a minute just to make sure it was completed and then I push the network button again on the controller (remote control) once the receiver went back to that page I removed the flash drive, I tested my phone and voila!!! AirPlay works again!!

Hope it helps you!! 🙂

My receiver is a VSX-822-K

This is the page for AirPlay in the Pioneer website, at the bottom of it, there's a list of receivers that support airplay, click on your model number and it will take you to the update page 🙂

This is the 7Zip page just in case you don't have an zip archiver. Once you have downloaded this archiver, right click on the Firmware Update from the Pioneer site and click on extract here or desktop for easy finding.

Good luck!!
