Sep 19, 2014 1:14 PM in response to falst01by Barry Fass-Holmes,I think you'll need to wait for Yosemite's release.

Bottom line: If you're only using one device, if all your devices have been upgraded to iOS 8, and if you're running the Yosemite Public Beta or a Developer Preview release of Yosemite and you're comfortable with how things are going, then you can probably pull the trigger on iCloud Drive safely.
But if you're still using Mavericks and iOS 7 on some devices and you rely on iCloud to sync data, hold off until you're ready to move everything up to the newest release. And for Mac users, that may be a wait of several weeks as work continues on OS X Yosemite.

Sep 19, 2014 1:17 PM in response to falst01by Barry Fass-Holmes,I think you will need to wait for the final release of Yosemite.

If you choose "Upgrade to iCloud Drive", then iCloud document syncing will stop working on your Macs unless you are using the Yosemite beta and the Mac app has been updated to use iCloud Disk. There is no way to "undo" the decision to move to iCloud drive, so you will have to wait until Yosemite is released (or join the beta) and the Mac app is updated.

Sep 21, 2014 1:47 AM in response to Barry Fass-Holmesby kupa,What kind of people are the new mac software developers to introduce a software without warning that synchronization will not work anymore for months???
I regret the death of Steve Jobs! I don´t think he would have released the iOS8 before Yosemite is ready!!

Actually we were all given a choice whether or not to migrate to iCloud Drive, with a warning that if we do migrate now then devices not running iOS 8 or Yosemite won't be able to access documents on it. See this article. It seems unlikely that Yosemite is still months away; it's in public beta, so you could backup your computer carefully and give it a try right now.

Sep 22, 2014 3:25 AM in response to SGIIIby Ashka,THe problems users are having using iClould with Numbers, Pages etc. I believe, stared after the updates to those apps on the 16 / 17 Sept.
Users who have not updated and / or can't update to iOS 8 on older devices are also no longer able to use their iWork apps on iClould.

Sep 22, 2014 6:55 AM in response to Ashkaby kupa,It´s true, we have the choice to mitrate or not, however, it was always the great thing on apple, that you could just rely that any software update will not push you back to a complicated process, e.g. where you have to back up your mac, than go to a beta release, eventually get lost of data, or other problems facing, it was the apples big asset not to do such things which we were used from microsoft products. That was the reason for many of the customers of apple to pay more for more comfort not for less comfort!
Do we get lost of this advantage now? Shall we return to windows 8? It is not so bad after all, and, by god, much cheaper...

Sep 22, 2014 7:49 AM in response to kupaby SGIII,The way I understand it, these forums are a place for users to help fellow users make the best use of the software as it is currently engineered. They're not intended as a place to criticize Apple or its competitors. My understanding is that Microsoft makes some very good software and generally has been more concerned with backwards compatibility than Apple because of its higher proportion of business users who can't afford to have things "break." Apple has been more willing to push us all along into the future even if that means short-term pain. Who knows, the new iCloud may turn out to be an improvement for us all.
In any case, if you have comments for Apple (since we're all just users here) you could try Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback in your menu.

Sep 23, 2014 1:43 PM in response to Eric Rootby léonie,Eric, that will turn off iCloud drive, but it will not return the ability to use documents in the Cloud. You cannot revert to the old state, once you upgraded toicgloud drive. See Apple's FAQ: iCloud Drive FAQ http://support.apple.com/kb/HT201104
After I upgrade to iCloud Drive, can I downgrade and go back to using Documents in the Cloud?
No, after you upgrade to iCloud Drive, you can't go back to using Documents in the Cloud. You can turn off iCloud Drive by going to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive. If you turn off iCloud Drive, your documents and data will no longer be kept up to date across all of your devices.

Sep 24, 2014 9:26 AM in response to SGIIIby Studio Palegolas,Until Yosemite is out iCloud drive should be opt-in in my opinion. I made the same mistake. Bummer. Now I'm thinking about installing the Yosemite beta. Is it stable?
-
Sep 24, 2014 12:17 PM in response to Studio Palegolasby SGIII,I agree on the opt-in. I'm pretty sure it was opt-in and, like you, I made the wrong choice for my needs. Don't know about the Yosemite beta. I've been holding off as Apple recommends it for secondary Macs only, not a main "production" machine.

We're out of luck with true sync. But it appears that there is a way to copy your documents to iCloud drive and then access them elsewhere. See andre-appleforum post in this thread about drag and drop to iCloud.

Sep 28, 2014 3:12 PM in response to falst01by Michael Ginsberg,First of all, it is unthinkable that Apple didn't have an "undo" to this option. I use Keynote. Numbers & Pages on all my Macs & iDevices. Now, I have to wait until Oct 21st (Yosemite is suppose to be available then).
I mostly work on Macs, but like my iPad or iPhone to make a last minute tweak or email someone a PDF while on the go.
Here is my workaround until Oct 21st.
I keep my files in DropBox, they are instantly and automatically available on my Macs - always in sync.
On my IOS devices, they are also available, just not as instantly and changes are only one way - this is OK for needs, since most of my editing was done on Macs.
