Photos after IOS 8 Update

I tried to download the IOS 8 update directly from iTunes Wednesday night but after a while I got an error message saying that my phone had gone into recovery mode. I had backed up my phone just before I tried to download the update so no biggie. I had lost everything on my phone and had to reload it. I reloaded from icloud and went about downloading the update.

After the update completed I noticed that I had a ton of pictures on my phone, ones I had deleted long ago. They are all from folders on "my computer" that I had previously backed up to my computer. I made folders and backed my pictures from my phone directly to my laptop harddrive.

I don't know why when I reloaded my phone that it pulled in those pictures when I reloaded from iCloud.

Now I can't delete those pictures off my phone and they are taking up tons of space. I would like to delete all of them off my phone completely but don't know how.
