May 9, 2016 9:33 AM in response to thomasfrompottsvilleby burton0303,Check/Fix Date & Time
I tried a bunch of different things for an hour (including "Reset Network Settings" as suggested above) but nothing resolved the problem. Finally I found a thread advising to correct Date & Time, and it worked!! For some reason the date & time were wrong, so the device could not properly contact and sync with the Apple server (even though my Apple ID/password worked from other devices and on iCloud.com). By turning on "Settings - General - Date & Time - Set Automatically" it made the date/time current and connected successfully.
Note: I did a hard reset after correcting the date/time, and then had to put in my username/password when prompted a few times before it was accepted. I think this was the time it took for the date/time to update, but after a few attempts it worked/problem solved.

Jun 1, 2016 2:18 AM in response to thomasfrompottsvilleby mikefromsittard,Hi, I changed my AppleID to my new email adress, but I can't logout with my iCloud on my iPhone 5. Once I want to logout it asks me for my password (for the old email adress) but it continues to fail. '''Verification Failed, there was an error connecting to iCloud. Any ideas how I can fix this? I already tried reverted the AppleID back to the old email adress. But it doesn't seem to work.

Jun 1, 2016 7:28 AM in response to mikefromsittardby burton0303,Check my post a few up, I ran into the same issue (requesting but rejecting password)...you need to fix the date & time. By turning on "Settings - General - Date & Time - Set Automatically" it made the date/time current and connected successfully.

Jun 3, 2016 8:05 AM in response to burton0303by alvinedyvane,This did the job, nothing else mentioned on here worked. (iPhone 6 with 9.0)
So the date and time was set to auto but was setting itself a month prior and 6 hours behind. I turned off 24 hours then manually corrected the time and date, then turned back on auto and it kicked in. It then lets me log out of the iCloud and wipe the phone, Boom!
