iPhone 5s cannot perform Bluetooth Tethering under iOS 8

Hi all.

I've upgraded my iPhone 5S (Model A1530) from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8.0 last night.

Today when I went back to headquarters of my company (which is using an access point that reject my mid-2010 13" MacBook Pro's (Model A1278, OS X Mavericks 10.9.5) Wi-Fi under OS X) I had to turn on the hotspot function to get access to the Internet.

Strange things happened when I tried to build a tethering between my iPhone 5S and my Mac, no tethering was built after clicking "Connect to network" in Bluetooth menu. I tried to remove the device from both my iPhone and Mac and try to re-pair them, they did pair and connect, but the Mac cannot get a valid IP address from the phone and cannot connect again once disconnected, the Bluetooth icon in my phone just blink a few times then return to unconnected state.

I tried to reset all the network settings but without any success.

Before upgrading to iOS 8.0 my phone was able to create Bluetooth Tethering with the phone. Also, I have an spare iPhone 3Gs (Model A1303) running iOS 6.1.2 and I've just tested Bluetooth tethering with it, the Mac just connected smoothly. So base on all these evidence, the root cause of the problem is most likely the iOS 8 on my iPhone 5S. Does a wipe and restore help?

Thanks.

I'm having exactly the same problem since updating to iOS 8.0 on iPhone and iPad earlier this week... Able to tether iPhone to my Windows laptop via Wi-Fi with no problems, but Bluetooth tethering (between iPhone and iPad) shows as connected for just a few seconds before returning to 'Not Connected'. I have tried re-pairing the devices as well, and resetting network settings. Would appreciate you sharing if/when you manage to sort it!

SAME HERE! And its most annoying. Tried everything bar phone wipe and restore, which im now reluctantly forced to resort to. Happens just as you describe between my iphone 5s and my 2013 ipad mini retina - all running ios8.1 and all ok BEFORE 8.1!!!!!!

Tried pedantic sequencing of hotspot switch on followed by pair with iphone from ipad and it makes no difference whether i get them to forget each other and re-pair. The connection lasts 15 seconds and rapidly switching to an internet using app on the ipad to lock into the tether doesnt work either! Its the software that needs the repair it seems so hurry up Apple, this loss of functionality is more profound than all the alleged benefits of 8.1!
