Sep 29, 2014 7:00 AM in response to raghuseeth1by dennisfromeast grinstead,I have the same problem, even without using my I pad, the battery drains in just over 4 hours. Looked to see if any of my apps were draining the battery but over 90 % was due to the I pad itself. This is not at all practical, did not have this problem before installing iOS 8.

Sep 30, 2014 12:53 AM in response to raghuseeth1by Ben Nat,Hi, we are all suffering the same issue which seems to be caused by background cellular activity. Throughout the user iPhone community (and all over the wider internet) the remedies proposed by Apple of "restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device" seem not to work.
In my case, I updated to 8.0.2 Sunday, and have been burning through a full charge in under 4 hours, this despite the fact that I have turned off cellular data for virtually all apps other than mail, phone, whatsapp and messaging. I do not expects the smartphone battery to last for ever, it would be nice to get through the day.
Having done some further research I have however noticed that 30% of total battery power over the past 24 hours has been used by Calendar and 27% by Contacts (both of which are linked to either my iCloud account or 2 Exchange accounts). This is about double the average of the last 7 days (about 15% each) and I suspect explains some of the problem.
Apple? any ideas? Is 8.0.3 on its way, hopefully?

Sep 30, 2014 1:15 AM in response to Ben Natby Basexperience,This is much better, targeted investigation.
If you reckon these cloud-based synchronising services are using most of your battery power, can I suggest you try deleting those accounts and adding them back in again?
there have been previous issues with sync using a lot of power (active sync as I recall had particular issues getting stuck in a sync loop) which were often cured by removing and re-adding the account.
The thing to remember about these devices is that they use a lot of configuration data. Apple tella you to reset settings as presumably this rewrites whatever XML or database holds various configurations, but I suspect it doesn't reset details of these cloud-based sync accounts.
try making a fresh backup, ensure you have account details for any cloud sync accounts (exchange, gmail, iCloud etc), ensure all data is up to date in the cloud, then delete all of them and add them back in.
let me know if that works.
Additional info: I've worked in mobile software since 1999

Sep 30, 2014 1:20 AM in response to Basexperienceby Ben Nat,Hi Thanks.
I will give it a try and get back to you...
Funny, this is the first time I have had a real problem with an Apple device and I have been using them since 1990.

Oct 1, 2014 3:11 AM in response to Basexperienceby Ben Nat,Hi
This seems to have worked. I deleted and added back in my accounts although I have not yet turned Location Services on yet. Battery depletion seems to have slowed to the normal rate I have experienced since acquiring this iPhone (5).
I would recommend that anyone suffering battery problems try the same procedure to see if that can assist.

Oct 1, 2014 4:25 AM in response to Ben Natby Basexperience,Everybody needs to try this, Ben has had success and the overall picture looks like it lends itself to a diagnosis of a "stuck sync" account of some kind, as happened previously with upgrades (see previous post above). excessive external data access and the iDevice using most of the battery point in this direction nicely.
Restoring your device won't fix this because you're actually restoring whatever slightly corrupted database or config file is causing the issue. You must delete all accounts which sync and then add them back in again. Make sure you know the passwords! This will include icloud, gmail, exchange, yahoo, etc.

Oct 1, 2014 5:08 AM in response to Basexperienceby Slinky09,Hi and apols for being a numbskull, when you say delete accounts do you mean delete iTunes accounts, email accounts or something else or all? What are the steps, delete then switch off then add, or something else?
Thanks in advance

Oct 1, 2014 5:41 AM in response to Slinky09by Basexperience,No worries, I'm referring to email accounts - these don't just encompass email any more, they sync contacts, calendars, remiders and notes, and in the case of iCloud, it includes your entire iCloud account.
So:
- Make sure everything is backed up, just in case (use iTunes or iCloud, your choice) - the emails should be on the server anyway, but notes, calendars etc might just be local, especially if the sync is "stuck", as it seems to be - last time the issue was with activesync calendars, I recall
- Make sure you know the account details of the accounts listed under Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars - all username / password / server names / portnames etc, including any SMTP server oddness your email provider makes you use if you've got strange ones (I think the automatic GMail, yahoo etc email setup works OK, haven't checked for a long time now)
- Follow this http://youtu.be/kVFBu2ZTyCo to delete the accounts
- Add the accounts back in, signing in and configuring as necessary
That's essentially it, just delete all these accounts (which sync various content) and add them back in again. If it works, make sure you run another backup!

Oct 1, 2014 6:22 AM in response to Basexperienceby The_Middleman,I'll give this a try, but I did a clean install as a new phone, configured everything manually and the problem still exists! I'm not holding out much hope until another update comes.

Oct 1, 2014 6:43 AM in response to The_Middlemanby The_Middleman,I don't rant often, but today I need to rant.
Apple has rendered my iPhone 5 virtually useless with its IOS 8.02 update. I've had this phone for 2 years and it was the perfect phone. Same for my iPhone 4 for the 2 years I had that (and my wife is using it now without a problem). What ticks me off the most is that Apple doesn't even acknowledge that there is a problem here! I was promised a call back and never received one. Unfortunately it seems that Apple can't get anything right since Steve Jobs passed.
At this point, I'm so frustrated that I have to say that there will be a Galaxy S5 in my near future. Apple has one more week to get this right.
