(it is not possible to install ios 8 onto iphone 4)

I had a look on the documents in your links. From my point of view this methods only works, when both devices have the same version of the IOS.

Unfortunately it is not possible to install IOS 8.x on iphone 4.

Are you sure, that the hint works with differen IS-versions?

Tom, back your iPhone 4 up using iTunes. Restore your iPhone 6 from that back up. It will be fine.

The issue would be if you were trying to back up a new phone like the 6 running iOS 8.X and then try to restore that back onto an older phone like your 4 running iOS 7.X or earlier that will not support iOS 8.

Generally, there are 2 ways:

• Backing up iPhone 4 with iTunes and then restoring the backup to iPhone 6;
• Directly transferring the data from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6 with the help of iPhone PC Suite or the phone to phone transfer MobileTrans.

Actually, this is what i suggest to transfer data from the old iPhone to iPhone 6. A bit tricky, but u can finally get it worked.
