Today I tried to update to IOS 8 on my ipad 4. I thought I was doing everything right. I did it through itunes.  I updated iTunes to 11.4.  I backed up before starting. It now is frozen. itunes says it's in recovery mode. The only options it gives me is to Restore so I say ok... after a few seconds  I get get error 3014.  It says this ipad can not be restored.  It has a button to click for more info which leads me to this page:  Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

Please help, I have a back up I just can't get to it.  Why did this happen!!!

Any help would be appreciated.  I have done a lot of trouble shooting since first posting.   I have tried every suggestion found on apple... disabled firewall, disabled Winpatrol, bypassed router, logged out of then back into apple id on itunes, did the Hosts folder fix found on apple.com, no matter what I do I keep getting the error 3014.

I'm getting the feeling no one knows what to do.

I have since tried a few more things... suggestions found online...

I tried using another computer, same house same internet link though... it downloaded the update again, took about an hour & a half but as soon as it finished it said it could not restore because "device could not be found".  I unplugged my ipad then plugged it back in so it would "see"  it but it just went right back to the "ipad in recovery mode needs to be restored"... then the same error 3014.

I don't know if the computer can sense the ipad or what's going on.  On the screen when it wants to do the restore it has an icon of an ipad & it says "Serial Number: n/a

The next thing I tried...  was right clicking iTunes & choosing "Run as Administrator".  It started another hour & a half download of the update... but then when it was done it went right back to the error 3014.

Is there nothing that can help?!?

After yet another failed attempt to restore I wanted to record the last response from iTunes before I get the 3014 error message.

After I click "Restore iPad"... then click "Restore and Update"... it then says Extracting Software, this only takes a minute or two... then very fast it says Preparing iPad for Restore... then BAM... error window comes up saying... The iPad could not be restored. And unknown error occurred (3014).

Well I seem to be the only one interested in responding to my post. Today I'm adding that nothing has changed. It is still stuck in recovery mode.

Two developments: Tried putting it in DFU mode. I can get it to the blank screen like they show in the youtube videos. But where on theirs the white apple symbol comes up then stays on.... mine goes right back to the connect to iTunes icon.

2nd thing... Late last night I couldn't even get it to power off. I had finally given up for the night & was going to go to plug it in to charge overnight, btw I have no idea what the battery is at since I've not seen a battery icon since before the update... but anyway, so I plug it in & try to power it off & I don't get the slide thing it just goes black then a few seconds later the white apple icon comes back on followed by the connect to iTunes icon. I tried a few more times then gave up.

I am glad to be making this final post.  I have my ipad back!!  I used Reiboot.  Got it from CNET, don't download from just anywhere try to get it from there or somewhere you trust.  It was literally one click & my ipad was back like it all never happened.  ios 8 was not on there but that's ok with me.  I'm happy to just have it back.  If you are in my situation you have nothing to lose from trying it.  I did not think it would work, I had tried countless suggestions for hours I worked on it, nothing had worked.  But this did.  Hope this helps someone else out there because finding help has been very hard.

Bless you.  Reiboot worked for me too, when nothing else would.  iPad was out of warranty 22 days.  My hat off to you.
