I was updating my mothers iPhone 5 through iTunes, all was going smoothly, and it got about 90% done and stopped with error message (6). This is the first time I ever have had this problem, so what happens? Does the iPhone have to be put into recovery mode and restored? How would I go about it? ...Please help ASAP...

Now, the error, was this on the phone, or in iTunes. If this was in iTunes, then check this support document for help. Resolve iOS update and restore errors
Sorry, I am desperate here, and didn't know. I saw that there were several views but no replies, and it was getting pushed way down and out of sight, making it impossible to get help anyway.
The error was on iTunes.
Then read the suggested fixes in the link I provided you. Generally, error 6 has to do with Security software. If you are using a Windows computer, then disable the anti-virus and firewall until you complete the update.
How do I continue the update if it has stopped on the phone and iTunes doesn't see the phone? I haven't unplugged it yet by the way. Can I just unplug the phone and restore from a backup or will that cause problems? I made a backup immediately before starting the update.
You can remove it and attempt to restore again, but if it is not being recognized then you may have to do other things. If you remove the phone, restart the computer and iTunes and then connect, see what you see. Alright, I closed iTunes and started it up again. Phones screen went black, then threw the "Connect to iTunes" screen, etc. Did that, restored to factory settings, restored from backup, now it is running iOS 8, and all seems good. However, not all the pictures came back on her phone. 29 pictures and 37 videos made it, but it stopped there, and she had over 800 items total. Will they continue to copy over or did most of the pictures get lost during the process somehow?
[Edit] Wait - Nevermind. Forgot that iOS 8 has a different way of managing pictures, found them all.
