I have photo's on my computer that I want to put on my iPhone 6 but it is not working. My computer is running windows xp. When I plug the phone in, it opens itunes but that's it. It doesn't show up as a device, as previous iPhone's would. Why is that?

Do you have the latest version of iTunes on the computer? I would be concerned that the computer is not up to date and there is nothing that you can do about that, since Microsoft has discontinued all support for XP. You can try this support document to see if that will help for a problem with the phone not being recognized. iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows It could be the USB driver, see the information in Step 5.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.

Also, disable anti virus software before connecting the iPhone to your PC.

That's why the iPhone 5 would work because it came out before Windows stopped supporting it, am I correct?
I do have the latest iTunes I believe. When I plugged it in it said I needed to download the latest iTunes and I did. Then rebooted my computer

Authorize the computer.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
Then connect the iPhone.
It is authorized, I have other iPhone's that I've connected to it. It just isn't showing up as a device. I can plug the iPhone 5 in right now and it'll pop up. I plug in the 6 and nothing. My computer is as up to date as it can be
Disable your PC anti virus software then connect the iPhone.
