Q: iPhone 6 - "Immediately" is only Passcode option

I Just got iPhone 6.  Only have iCloud and GMail account so no corporate enforced settings.  Why is "immedirately" only option for requiring a passcode?  I used to be able to set for 15 minutes, an hour, etc.

is there some other new iOS 8 security setting preventing longer duration for passcode?

The link you provided includes the following sentence:

"Constructive feedback about product features is welcome as well."

Thus your link confirms that this site is ABSOLUTELY a proper place for feedback under apple's terms and conditions. IMO, your comment that he "should know better", would have been unnecessarily abrasive even if it were not absolutely wrong on substance. Also, given apple's statement welcoming feedback here, I have to believe that such feedback will occasionally be considered by apple.

Independently (and in the spirit of adding to such feedback):

I'm very happy indeed to see that all of the opinions expressed here are in agreement with my preference to HAVE "4 hours" available as an option when using TouchID.  I noted that not one comment here expressed a preference for the current limitation.  I also want to agree with those who expressed that simply using TouchID does not seem to incur the kind of increased security risk that would justify the elimination of that feature.

I'm all in favor of people being happy. However, Apple doesn't read here for suggestions, so unless you are all submitting feedback, all this agreement isn't accomplishing anything.

I've given Apple feedback on this at the feedback link, and I think it's valuable that you've posted that link here.  The more feedback apple gets on these issues the better, absolutely.

I'd disagree, however, with your statement that agreement like this accomplishes nothing.  If apple never read these forums, they'd be unlikely to encourage leaving feedback here (which they have).  Also IMO, these discussions can help others clarify their own thoughts on the subject and can promote additional feedback from still more people both here and at the feedback link.

If your main intent here is to remind folks that using the actual feedback link is always a plus in this situation, I agree.

When has someone from Apple encouraged leaving feedback here?

I referred to this in one of my posts above. In Apple's Terms of Use for this discussion site, https://discussions.apple.com/terms-and-conditions!input.jspa, they state:

"Constructive feedback about product features is welcome"

As a non-Apple empoyee, but iTouch ID user, based on feedback from attempting to turn iTouch off for unlocking the screen and nothing else, it is based on the fact that since, in my case, I have credit card information stored on the phone (even though only bits of it), leaving the phone unlocked past immediately is considered as risky as giving your wallet to a stranger and asking him to "hold this" while you run across the street for just a minute.

You can choose to allow text message replying while in locked mode, and then you don't need a password/iTouch ID each time.

That said, I find the "immediately" option as the only option annoying as well.

Same with gardening with gloves.  I'm turing it off because of the stupid way they have this set up.

I also find this very annoying. I am on conference calls with my phone all day and the phone constantly locks. Since I am on mute whenever I am not talking, it takes me additional time to get off mute and by then people frequently ask if I am still on the line

I used to have this set at 15 minutes and would rarely run into this problem as I typically have something to say within a 15 minute time frame.

I hope this is addressed in iOS 9.

Don't hold your breath expecting this to change. If you don't want it to time out, then turn off touch ID.

I switched it off for the lock screen. Too bad.

My wife and I both have iPhones and neither of us use Touch ID to unlock the phones BECAUSE OF THIS STUPID FEATURE.  I want to set how long until requiring Touch ID so I don't have to keep doing touch ID every few minutes... it's very cumbersome.  So I CAN do it with the passcode -- so that's what I do.

    Very lame.

THis is important because Touch ID just does not work in many normal use cases, such as with damp hands, wearing gloves, or as in my beef, when I navigate my bike with a waterproof case on the handlebars.  Riding a bike in traffic on a bumpy road is the last place to ask me to enter a pass code 2 minutes after the last entry.

I would give you the same advice I'd give anyone operating a vehicle in traffic: pull over. You are a danger to yourself and others trying to operate a phone and a vehicle at the same time.

Thank you, but I was not the least bit dangerous on my iPhone 4s without Touch ID - I only had to touch the screen within my chosen lockout time, and my Sat Nav would wake up, with no passcode, and show me where to go.  No more dangerous than in my car, where I change gear, tune in the radio, and look at the Sat Nav or speedo.  If I disable Touch ID, I can set the lockout time exactly as before.  We're only asking for iOS to work the same way whether Touch ID is enabled or not.  Like many people, it seems my only option is to disable Touch ID completely, which is the main feature I bought my iPhone 6s for!!!  And this is progress?!!!
