Q: Mail

Hi!

I have a strange problem.  Somehow I seemed to have created an extra inbox within my trash in mac mail.  I cannot figure out how to delete it (it wont let me from the trash bin) and it keeps spending all day rebuilding the folder.  There are over 16000 messages in my inbox apparently.  How do I fix this problem?

Thanks for any help.

I should have included the mail activity so you all can see what I mean:

      - the box labeled debbie in the trash keeps regenerating itself.

I hope this helps.  I have three mailboxes that I take care of.  When I press on the other two mailboxes I only see the deleted mail which is the way all the boxes were like then all of a sudden I noticed the Debbie box was full of all my active emails.I cannot right click and delete the folder, I get this message.

Perhaps this is nothing I have to worry about?  It seems odd that my inbox is in the trash, not that anything happens, it just rebuilds itself but that also takes resources and I noticed my computer slows down when this is happening.

Should I maybe delete the mailbox entirely and start over?  I hate to lose all my prefs etc.

    Thanks for any help.

Log in to the mail server through its web interface and try to delete the mailbox that way.

I tried but it only shows one trash can as trash.  It is really a strange thing.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    open L*/Mail/*/*/.O*

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.

One or more folders should open, each with the name ".OfflineCache". Move the contents of each one to the Trash. Quit Mail if it's running and empty the Trash.
