Q: Can't connect to my WiFI with new iPhone 6 - keeps saying the WiFi password is wrong.

My new iPhone 6 simply will not connect to my WiFi router - it's a Netgear WNDR4500 with the latest firmware.  It's always worked great with Apple devices.  FWIW I don't think it supports 802.11ac like the new iPhone 6 does (I've been using 802.11n for the past year or two) but that shouldn't be a problem, it also supports a/b/n etc.  The iPhone 6 sees the network(s) it just won't connect b/c it says the password is wrong.  I've typed it dozens of times it is NOT wrong.

First of all no, the caps lock is not on.  I'm not that dumb.  My iPad Mini connects to my wifi router just fine, as did the iPhone 5S I just traded in for the iPhone 6 (with the correct wifi network password).  I haven't changed any wifi router settings from the time I left home to wait in line 4 hours to get this new iPhone 6... and now I get home and it won't connect to my WiFi.  It sees the SSID (i have two, 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz), but it always says the wireless password is wrong.  Cannot connect, wrong password.  The password is 100% correct.  It's the same PW my iPad is using to connect, and that works just fine.

I'm so disappointed.  I waited in line - in the rain - so long for this, and now it won't connect to my WiFi!  I did try resetting all network settings.... no benefit. Interesting I did manage to get it to connect to my slow, crappy xfinity wifi, which is just horrible.  So, the thing DOES connect to Wifi, it's not totally broken.

Anyone else have this problem?  FWIW my old iPhone 5S and my current iPad Mini Retina were both updated to iOS 8, so I don't see how that could be the problem, both connected to my wifi under iOS 7 and iOS 8 just fine, no problems.

Thanks for any help.  I'm hoping I don't have to return this iPhone 6.

I am having the same problem. I am sitting right next to the router and it sees it, but it tells me the password isn't correct over and over again. the ipad and other iPhones in the house are fine. I reset (which seemed silly since it's brand new) and didn't do anything. Anyone have any solutions to this?

Same here! The new iPhone initialily connected to my wifi when I first started it. I left home for university and when I came back home it refused to reconnect. If I try to manually connect I have to enter the password over and over again. Sometimes it says wrong password, sometimes can't connect.

I Tried everything on the phone and also the router.

I Went over to a friend of mine and tried to connect to his wifi - it worke, but only on the first try. I switched of wifi on the phone, turned it back on and it now also refuses to connect to his wifi. Don't known what to do, I hope it's only a bug in the software and not a hardware failure...

Yep, that sounds really familiar. The annoyance is that you need wifi to finish your backup. Gar!

Same situation here exactly. It worked well at first. Then over time, it only stayed connected intermittently. My next steps were...

    1. I reset the network settings on my iPhone 6. No luck.
    2. I then reset my router to factory settings. No luck.
    3. I then reset my iPhone entirely, erasing all my data and settings. No luck.

I have another new iPhone 6 on the network as well - and that device is not having problems, nor are any other network devices (including a number that are upgraded to iOS 8 as well).

Thank you for your post. It proved I wasn't going crazy. My story caused by this issue so far goes:

I organised to replace with wife's old iPhone 4 with a new iPhone 6, and it was to be delivered at home on Fri 19 Sep. Turned out my wife and son went down the coast to visit her parents for the weekend, and left before it was delivered. So it was delivered to the local PO, for us to pick up when we could.  Instead of going straight down to join them, I waited to pick the phone up on Saturday morning, restored the phone with the latest backup before making the two hour drive.  So far, (inconvenient but) so good.

Then I tried to connect to wifi at her parent's house.  No luck. After updating the router's firmware. No luck. The phone wouldn't even connect, let alone connect and drop out. Then I found your post.  My mother had her iPhone4S replaced twice by Apple due to wifi/bluetooth hardware failure, so I thought the phone was DOA. I called the Apple store in my home town, and booked the last appointment of the day, and cut short our visit to head home and sort the issue out. Just to be sure I wasn't crazy, I downloaded the 2GB ios8/iphone6 restore image on my in-laws internet connection, and tried to connect to wifi again. No luck.

Made it back just in time for the 3:30pm appointment, and explained the issue.  The girl behind the Genius bar logged into the Apple Store backoffice secure wifi, and at first didn't see the problem, then realised there was an issue.  Took it out the back for a while (4:10pm), and came out with a replacement iPhone 6. I was relieved, as I didn't want the stress of trying to convince her there was an issue with the phone, as I still hadn't checked it out on my home wifi.  Then she tried to connect the replacement iPhone 6 to the store wifi and it had the same problem!

Again, she went out the back, but soon returned to say it was an intermittent fault that must be caused by iOS 8, so I have to wait til Apple deploy a fix. I couldn't even add my name to a list to inform Apple of the number of people with this issue.

I still find it incredible that I've committed over $1,500 over two years to get the latest phone, and it doesn't even connect to wifi?! Can you be called an early adopter when you get the 9th generation phone? Unbelievable.

So I went back to the Apple store and my phone's WiFi worked fine there.  They even logged in to a router/account that required a password just to test it, and it worked.

I had some other issues with my router over the past few days (Google Chromecast stopped working) so I went and bought a new WiFi router.  I wanted one with 802.11ac anyway, since I now have a device that supports it.  FWIW the router I got is a Netgear AC3200 "Nighthawk" tri-band (was like $300).  I set it up, which didn't take long, and I typed the network PW into my iPhone 6 and after about 3 very long seconds - it connected!  And it's very fast, very nice connection.  My ipad mini and Tivo and all my other devices connect to the new router just fine as well.

So spending another $300 for a new wifi router solved my problem.  But it still doesn't make any sense why every other wireless device worked just fine on my old router (except the chromecast over the past day or two) except this one.  Oh well, electronics are complex and fickle I guess.  But I like the new router.

Ironically my chromecast still wont work, even on the new router - I think the Chromecast is just broken.  Another $35 down the drain.

I don't know what sort of router's you guys are using, but I suggest just getting a new one.  There's no setting on the phone or on the router that's going to fix this.  Even making a password-free guest account didn't work.

CCheck your settings on iPhone if ok

try a reboot press & hold power button & menu button hold both

down until you see Apple Logo then wait

also turn your router off for 30 seconds

    then try your Wifi.

You think rebooting my phone wasn't one of the first 2 or 3 things i tried?  Like a dozen time... Also rebooted my PC and the router a few dozen times as well.  Nothing.  Password not accepted.  But new router is working very nicely.

As much as I'd like to buy a new router for everywhere I go, that obviously isn't feasible. I'm at my sister's house a great deal and I'm not about to ask her to upgrade their router simply because I can't connect.

This is a problem Apple must fix. Looking at how the error happens I'm hoping a software fix will occur.

I tried that. Didn't do anything. I also reset my phone completey and that didn't do anything. reset router, three feet away and my phone doesnt see it.

has to as to be a software issue.

BTW - I forgot to mention that I had successfully updated my iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd Gen) to iOS8 without a hitch.  I have not experienced an issue connecting either of those devices to wifi at home and other locations - just the new iPhone 6.

If there wasn't a problem with the phone, why did Apple choose to give me a replacement iPhone 6?

But then when testing the replacement phone, tell me there's a problem with iOS 8?

Don't think Apple could reduce the credibility of their new product line more if they tried.

HI, just wanted to let you know that in the meantime i got my new iPhone 6 sometimes to connect to my wifi at home. still prompts me with the wrong password message but every once in a while it connects. also it sometimes auto-connects to the wifi. the problem is, once it's connected all the other devices have a terribly slow connection speed. on my imac for example it takes forever to load websites. i hope it's just a software issue with iOS 8 in combination with my specific router. I'm gonna get a new router today, hopefully this will solve the problem completely. otherwise I'm looking forward to iOS 8.x with some wifi-bugfixes, that would be great!

It is not a router's issue; it is IOS 8.

and Apple was harping on "uncool" "pc that does not run bug free IOS
