Q: Password Incorrect after IOS 8 update

I have been receiving several of these Password Incorrect messages when I try to check my email accounts since updating to IOS 8.  This is happening several times a day and I have to reenter the passwords and a few hours later I will get the same message again. My saved password for Facebook also keeps deleting itself automatically and I have to reenter it several times a day.  I have done a master reset of my phone and I've also delete my mail accounts and reinstalled them and I'm still getting the same message.  I'm attaching a photo of one of the messages that is popping up on my phone.

I have 2 step verification on my gmail account but I don't have as many problems with it.  It seems to happen most to the Exchange accounts.

I changed my e-mail passwords and reentered them on my phone and no longer have issues.  Maybe that will work for you.

zimmerkk,  Sounds like its worth a try.  How long have you been without the 'Password Incorrect" message?

I changed passwords at 8am and haven't had a password message since on either my phone or iPad. Before it popped up every time I unlocked my phone.

All-- just came on this forum when this same issue happened to me today on my iPhone 6-- i just found this online and hope this is helpful-- requires you to do some things with your gmail account but shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.  Good luck!

Hey louisbunya,  I'm having to problem with my Exchange accounts.  I don't seem to be having a problem with Gmail.

Just to follow up I have tried changing some passwords as zimmerkk suggested.  Nothing seems to work.  I hope an update in coming soon.  This is getting hard to deal with.

This seemed to only happen to me after updating to iOS 8.0.2 its getting stupid the amount of times i have to renter my passwords for hotmail, exchange and Facebook! also get a lot of messages about server verification? there quite long and ask you to check details with a link to something in settings but i have no idea what I'm looking at when i follow the link?!

Why haven't Apple given a response this is obviously happening to quite a few people!!!!

I have been having the same issue since updating to iOS 8, 8.0.1 and 8.0.2. The password pop up for my Exchange account will continuously pop up even after entering the correct password. on occasion it will reappear immediately and other times it will reappear after a period of time.

I Have recently found that by 'double clicking' the home button, scrolling up to close the mail application and reopening Mail rectifies it for some time.

After time the password pop up will reappear.

Seems they really screwed this version of software. This issue and the Bluetooth saga are really troublesome For me. Having just purchased my parents their first iPhones, they are unimpressed, and want to revert back to their own phones.

    Get it sorted Apple!

    HHope this helps?

This link worked for me posted by LouisBunya!

You have to generate a password specific for certain apps that don't recognize the 2 step verification which the iOS 8 does not

Apparently the previous iOS didn't either because I saw during the process that I had generated an app specific password on Feb. 3 which I don't recall but that was when I got the iPhone 5s.

Sorry, my issue is not with g-mail and two stage verification, that works for me. It is with the standard mail app working with a standard pop/SMTP password verified mail account. There is definitely a bug in IOS 8, & 8.02, my iPhone 4S, which is on the last IOS 7 release still works fine, I see the issue on iPhone 6 and iPad 3 with IOS 8 and 8.02

5 hours into iOS 8.1 and I have not had the "Incorrect Password" message.  Too early to be sure but I think they addressed it.

This is after the initial problems i had when i updated to IOS 8.2, then i had a update for 8.1 which i installed thinking it may be better, but no its worse!!! I'm not even getting all my emails coming through to me before its too late!

COME ON APPLE THIS IS A JOKE!  Why has nobody from apple given a response or statement?????

Yep,  Back to the same problem.  I thought we had a fix, but it seems to be the same problem with no improvement.  I am wondering how widespread this is.  If you search the problem, this seems to be the only thread.

If I am in a hurry I will hit cancel instead of entering my password and I noticed that I stop getting updates to my calendar.  I have to go back in to settings and put my password in again.

    You are not alone!!!

I am experiencing the same exact issue, with my Outlook/Exchane email.  This is NOT the gmail problem that people keep posting a solution for.

I actually had the issue before the ios8 update.  In fact, my one big hope was that the new os would fix this horrendously annoying issue.  If anything, it seems to have gotten worse.

I have seen plenty of discussions on this subject dating back to 2012.  My impression is that Apple can't find a fix, or for whatever reason they aren't bothering with it.  I've been with Apple forever, but if this doesn't get sorted out soon my next phone will be something else.  So sick of it.
