Oct 17, 2014 9:56 PM in response to ryanmsurby swhitlow,★HelpfulI am having the same problem with my iPhone 6 Plus 128gb phone. The camera and everything has been working great. Then, all of the sudden, the camera just came up black. I have rebooted the phone, powered down for 10min+ and then powered back on. I then restored my phone via iTunes (after I backed up of course) and then completed the restore.
I then restored the backup and brought the phone back up. Still the same black screen on the camera.
I then reset the content and all of the settings completely and this time I DID NOT restore from the backup. Still, the same problem. Nothing I am doing seems to be working. Looks like I'll be heading to the Apple Store tomorrow or contact Apple support. This is a real bummer. One of the main reasons I purchased the iPhone 6 Plus was because of it's camera.

Oct 17, 2014 10:45 PM in response to swhitlowby defnet,My symptoms were exactly he same as yours, you are going to need your handset replaced as it is a hardware fault, I just got my new phone this week after waiting about 2 weeks for it to be resolved with Apple and for stock to be available.

Oct 19, 2014 3:00 AM in response to DCS Webby fortanus,I had the problem, that the main camera worked well, but when switching to the front camera, the screen froze up and got blurry. Only killing the camera app helped to get the iPhone working again, but when restarting the app the same happens again. Later, I recognized that leaving the blurry screen for a while, suddenly the front camera was there, but when switching back to main camera, the picture was tinted dark purple and came back to normal after some seconds. I looks like a hardware problem for me until then, but the cure was in fact, what DCS Web suggested here:
By performing a sigle FaceTime video call with switching cams back and forth, also the original camera app seemed to be cured. Strange, but some kind of software bug for me, maybe a remainder form the iCloud backup restore?!

Oct 19, 2014 10:22 PM in response to fortanusby fortanus,I have to correct what I said before: FaceTime doesn't seem to help either.
After more testing I found, that when the iPhone hasn't been used for a while and the temperature of the device is rather ambient, the front camera works perfect. After some heavier usage and heating up, suddenly it stops working, as described before. This must be a hardware issue and I will have the phone exchanged.

Oct 28, 2014 7:42 PM in response to ryanmsurby Jebs13,I got my new iPhone 6 on a Thursday, it worked fine with no problems for 5 days. I went to take a snapchat and only saw a black screen, switched the camera and it was still black. Restarted checked again everything was still just a black screen. I went in to Apple quickly after looking at this forum. If you are having this problem GO TO APPLE. They might try everything they can but it will most likely result in a new phone. So I repeat if you are having this problem GO IN TO APPLE.

Nov 14, 2014 8:20 AM in response to ryanmsurby radufromlondon,- My problem is that my iPhone was working fine before updating for the new software and after was freezing, camera wasn’t working and a lot of problems.
- Basically my phone is out of apple warranty but i guess is their problem with their new updates, they damaged my camera and they should repair the damaged device.
- Right ?

Nov 14, 2014 2:44 PM in response to mk8usaby Todd Fleisher,I had this same issue with an iPhone6 when I restored from my 4s backup that was running ios5. I found the issue didn't happen if until I restored from the backup. Apple support was friendly, but not super helpful other than to suggest trying to backup to iCloud instead of iTunes. I ended up fixing it myself by restoring from backup and then *immediately* stopping the first sync before it got a chance to sync over photos from iPhoto. I then unchecked the sync photos options and re-sync'd and the issue was gone. This is clearly a bug and I've reported this back to the senior advisor I spoke to in the hopes he at least gets the word out or better yet takes it to engineering so they can work on a fix. Sadly I wouldn't hold my breath on either so I'm posting here in the hopes it will help someone else in the future.

Dec 14, 2014 8:19 PM in response to Megs0430by Allendale Dan,Tried these steps exactly, for my iPhone 6+, and it did not work. All that happened is that I lost my customization settings and have to start over on all that. However, I can tell Apple I did this and it did not help, when I call them. I won't bother to update my preferences until a fix is effected, since it wastes so much time to do it over and over.
I hope you found success, though I did not.

Jan 18, 2015 6:05 AM in response to adolfofujitaby lukus88,Here's my experience of these problems - with solution -> A new handset!
My Iphone 6 64gb was working fine for 3 months then the Camera App and any other Camera using Apps e.g. Instagram started freezing. In the Camera App sometimes the screen would be completely black... other times i'd get the preview image but with purple and pink banding down the image.
The problem seemed to be with the rear-view camera only, however the glitch would crash the whole app so couldn't switch to the selfie cam either.
I spoke to Apple support online through chat. They said back everything up and then reset the iphone by erasing 'all content and settings' and then in the set-up wizard once reset select 'set-up as new iphone' and then check the camera App. I did and had the same problem. So this ruled out a software issue.Quite annoyed by this stage that i'd got a defective handset, I rocked up to an Apple Store without a Genuis Bar appointment and they were very accomodating and helpful. They saw me straight away and squeezed me in for camera replacement. After one hour I got the phone back, tested it outside and the problem still occured! I went back in and they said - well in that case it must be the mother board or the graphics card and gave me a new handset.
So Just luck of the draw I guess! Couldn't fault the customer service though (apart from not doing thorough testing in the workshop to see a new camera hadnt fixed it!).

Jan 25, 2015 2:07 AM in response to ryanmsurby Ibrahim hamdoun,Hello, I had a problem with my iPhone 6 plus camera, it freezes when switching between modes and sometimes it shows a black screen... I noticed that disabling the 60FPS in camera settings fixed the problem, to those experiencing those issues I guess that this is a software bug, you can disable 60FPS until an update comes out... hope this helps to some.

Feb 9, 2015 4:11 AM in response to ryanmsurby adragan,Hi, I have the same issue after updating to iOS 8.1.3 and restoring from iCloud.
Tried such steps from Apple support, maybe this will be useful for somebody:
1. Make sure your iTunes is updated to the latest version. If it is not, please download and install iTunes from here: www.itunes.com. To find the version of iTunes you are running:
-On a PC please drop down the Help menu at the top of iTunes and choose: About iTunes.
-On a Mac please drop down the iTunes menu and choose: About iTunes
Text will start scrolling. At the beginning of that text will be the version number. The current version is 12, however 10.7 will work. The minimum version required for iOS 8 is 10.7. Don't forget, if you are using iTunes 12 on a Windows system, to be able to follow this guide affectively, please do the following: in iTunes choose View>Show Sidebar.
2. Transfer Purchases - Use article: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
3. Import Photos - Use article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
4. Back Up - Use article: iOS: How to Back Up: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
5. Turn off Find My Device from Settings > iCloud.
6. Restore your OS - See article titled iTunes: Restoring iOS Software:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
7. Stop here and test your device before adding your content back on. Note: You will have to go through the device 'Setup Assistant' first. If the device still is not reacting as it should then please contact us back and let us know.
8. Restore your content - See section titled "How to restore from backup" in article iOS: How to Back up: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
9. Sync your device as normal. This will bring back all of your applications, music and the photos you choose. For more information about syncing, please see article iOS: How to Transfer or Sync Content to your Computer (and from your computer) :http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
That didn't help much and I have those intermittent camera app failures. I was recommended to get help in Apple store, but don't have an opportunity to do this due to staying in country without Apple stores at the moment.
As others, I didn't have such issue before firmware update and restore, so I still assume that this is a software fault. Will wait for the next update and if that will not help will try to change my device in some Apple store...

Mar 3, 2015 10:52 PM in response to ryanmsurby corollanz,Has anyone found a solution for the camera focusing issues.Since I updated last week I can't focus my front facing camera. Called Apple today and they aren't aware of any issue relating to this problem. I've done all the restore reset options and still not fix. They suggested I send it away to get repaired. I'm positive it's a software issue not hardware issue> Can anyone help? Just changed back from being a Samaung Galaxy Fan so disappointing
