iPhone 6 ear speakers sound distorted on phone call

When I make a call the speakers in the iPhone 6 sound very distorted.

When I switch to speakerphone (and it uses the speakers on the bottom of the phone) everything sounds crystal clear.

My top speakers sound blown out.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi, my wife just had a terrible experience with the sound volume and clarity on her 2 days old i6. after a quick search turned out that the noise cancellation option on her phone was the cause.

please try this before freaking out and freaking the rest

go to setting > general > accessibility

scroll down to hearing and turnOff 'phone noise cancelation'

I Have this same problem with my iPhone 6 plus. I took it to the Genius Bar and they replaced the the display, which included the receiver speaker. That didn't help. So they replaced my phone with a new iPhone 6 plus. Same problem occurred with the new phone days later. Other than that, I have lost 3 glass screen protectors. Getting tired of losing money. Not sure what to do now, don't want to waste my time going to get another 6 plus just to get this problem again. My wife's iPhone 5s sounds spectacular. Hope Apple can fix this.

As Kristin833 mentioned, this clears up when turning off LTE for Voice. We have T-Mobile iPhone 6's and had the same issue - going into general -> cellular -> LTE [and turning it off for voice] fixes it immediately. In fact, this should really go into the Apple FAQ on the issue, since they'd probably eliminate some genius bar appointments.

As she suggested, rebooting the phone with the setting off seems to [so far] reset the LTE voice portion which somehow causes this. This appears then to be more of an iOS bug than a hardware issue, at least in our case.

I have the same blown-out ear speaker effect with my iphone 6 as well. While it is problem with any landlines and wireless phones, it becomes more apparent with any android phones on the other side. It appears they have higher output gain over the voice. Genius bar found nothing wrong with my iphone 6 after they performed sound pitch test with a digital meter. So, I ended up replacing my iphone 6 over the online repair request because I couldn't put up with the annoying blown-out ear speaker. The new iphone 6 still exhibits the same problem. Yes, I wasted my screen protector once. I won't bother bringing it to Genius bar again. Apple please fix this problem. By the way, side-by-side test with my old iphone 5 revealed that no blown-out effect with the iphone 5 whatsoever.

I confirm this defect iPhone 6!

I changed the phone is under warranty, and I was given a new one. But this defect is and on a completely new device! This problem is well known among the people of Russia, but Apple still does not want to accept this a software defect. Many People change for a number of new phones in the service center, but the result is the same, there is a crash during a conversation !!! Even at this forum not created one topic with this question, but the developers still can not eliminate this defect since April - after the release of firmware ios 8.3. On firmware 8.2 everything was OK!

Dear developers, hear its users !!!!!

I apologize for my English, Google Translate))))

I had the same issue with my brand new iPhone 6s - speaker sound distorted and also felt vibration of speaker sound while talking. Took it to Apple service station, they checked and gave me a new phone.

Sound issue resolved!

Still feel there is vibration at the back on some calls - just got the phone yesterday - still testing.

Also have an issue with an vibrating earspeaker on my brand-new 6s+.

Apple replaced my phone and I noticed the same issue again.

So I investigated more and found out that the vibration is reproducible by slightly tapping on the screen in the upper right corner. It seems to come from the camera.

I went to the Apple Store and tapped nearly on every iPhone I got in my hand. Everyone was vibrating! I think that this vibration is a design flaw.

I gave my iPhone to 9 people and dialed my mailbox. Only two of them heared the vibration AFTER I told them.

I notice it only with some voices (my mailbox and my girlfriend). So I think that the majority does not even notice it as you need a good hearing to recognize it.
