Q: Slow Wifi on iPhone 6 Plus

I'm using the iPhone 5s and iPad mini with retina and I had the same issue with wifi on my iPhone 5s. I was able to solve this issue by SWITCHING OFF CELLULAR DATA by going to SETTINGS > CELLULAR. I figured the problem was related to cellular data as my iPad mini (wifi only) didn't have any wifi issues.

My guess is that iOS 8 has a few bugs with juggling between internet connections between cellular data and wifi due to new iOS 8 features such as continuity (which allows phone calls and text messaging to be made/received via iPad and MacBook) and VoLTE (which allows phone calls to be made via wifi and switch to cellular data seamlessly).

So my suggestion is to switch off cellular data whenever you're connected to wifi. I hope this helps anyone who reads this as it has helped me.

My iPhone 5S worked fine with the IOS 8 update. However, my iPhone 6 wifi never got above .02 mbps. Reset Network Connections and it would work for a couple minutes and then back to almost nothing. Changing my router from WEP to WAP2 did the trick for me...both phones working fine now.

I switched to WAP2 and it did the trick. NO issues now.

WPA2 is rock solid for me .. it has been 2 days now...

I just changed my wifi from wep to wpa2 and my speeds are BLAZING! thank you! who ever is having this problem please make the change.

My 6 Plus works fine so far on Wi-Fi.  I'm getting my typical 40-45 down / 12 up speed.  I had slow wi-fi issues once with a Samsung Galaxy 4, and most of it came from security settings on my router.  For some reason I had slow speeds using WPA2 with that phone and had to change the security to something else.  Try testing different router settings first and reset your network settings on your iPhone.  If the speeds are still slow then there may be an issue with your phone and you should take it back.  Good luck

I'm having the same issues, slow wi-fi . I have an Asus RT-AC66R router. It's set to WPA2 AES encryption. I have 2 wireless networks setup on it, one on 2.4 Ghz and one on 5 Ghz. I found that if I switch from 2.4 to 5 Ghz, it fixes the slowness issue. The only problem is my printer is on the 2.4 network and doesn't support 5 Ghz, there goes my AirPrint! I am completey convinced that the issue is iOS 8. The reason I say this is because my iPad Air has the same problem since I recently upgraded to iOS 8. I sure hope Apple fixes this soon, I'm starting lose faith in them.

Yup, had to shut down my 2.4 in order for it to work.  When I get home I'm going to try and activate the 2.4 again now that I am logged in on the 5ghz.

This may be a really newbie question...... But how do I reset my router from WEP to WAP2? I am using the duel modem router that Xfinity/Comcast provides. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have Verizon FiOS and just went through the process of resetting my router.  I assume the way to do this with Xfinity/Comcast will be very similar to what I just did, although I can't say for sure.  What you want to do is log into your router through a web browser.  The address usually is something like 192.168.1.1., although the address depends on the brand of router you are using.  Here's a link that will hopefully help.

I have done this 3 times and then finally decided to restore but the issue continues.  Apple will have to fix this in an update

I have a theory.  I couldn't connect no matter the encryption key settings, WEP or WAP2.  I bought a better router and now I connect just fine.

It could be a problem with routers that don't have two separate channels for 2.4 and 5ghz.  For example, my old router was dual-band but single-channel, so it could do either 2.4ghz, 5ghz, but not both at the same time.  On single-channel, if you run on 5ghz then a lot of printers and older iOS devices will not connect.

I believe it is best to have a simultaneous dual-band router (especially if you connect multiple devices), so both 2.4ghz and 5ghz run at the same time on separate channels.  This allows you to set a WEP2 password for each channel.  They're more expensive because essentially they're two routers in one.

I agree, I also replaced my router with the Asus RT-AC87R and now I have the blazing speeds I'm paying for on both bands.
