Q: iPhone 6 dropping WiFi constantly

Got my iPhone 6 today and it keeps dropping my WiFi signal in my house and I cannot reconnect.  When toggling WiFi off and back on it doesn't even pick any network in range, and there are usually 4-6 available.  I have to power off the phone and power back on for it to pick up the WiFi signal again.

Very annoying.  I hope this is a bug with iOS 8 that can be fixed ASAP and that it's not a hardware issue.

Anyone else having this problem?

And no, 8.1 is not out yet.

I don't even know if this problem is on Apple's radar. In the media all the reports were about battery life complaints (not a problem I am seeing) and WiFi speed (not an issue for me either... my WiFi was either off or working at full expected speed).

My phone has done the "unable to search for networks" twice- one in a coffee shop and once today at home. I've already switched off wireless networking so it can't be anything to do with that for me. I have cell reception issues compared with iPhone 4 s on iOS 7 and other slow connecting to wifi issues on top of this odd unable to search problem.

No permanent solution yet, but the next software update may address this. In the meantime, I've found that the more you reset the network settings, the more stable the system becomes and the less likely to drop the wifi signal. Once you've reset network settings 5 to 10 times after losing wifi, it seems to happen much less often thereafter.

Just a quick snapshot of my chain of events.  I’m currently on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus 64GB here in London, UK. Every time I have spoken to AppleCare and told them that I have gone through all the Wi-Fi troubleshooting methods possible they have asked me to get a brand new retail replacement as I’m within my 14 day return period.  I’ve been experiencing the following issues:

    1. Wi-Fi disconnects and switches to 4G (Restart required for temp fix)
    2. Wi-Fi is still active but there is no traffic or activity– often when in sleep mode for long periods of time.  (Toggle Wi-Fi on/off for temp fix)
    3. Wi-Fi disconnects and cannot find any networks (restart required for temp fix)
    4. This has been occurring on both iOS 8 and 8.0.2
    5. The issues are the same on both my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks
    6. This is affecting my ip6+ and 5s (5s used to work perfect on ios7 on same networks) – My MBP-R and all other devices run perfectly on my network.

I spoke to AppleCare again yesterday and asked for their advice as its now my fourth iPhone in just under a month. This time they said that apple were fully aware of the Wi-Fi problem and that new repair tickets were not being raised for their engineers as they are already working hard to get this resolved. They also said they could see all the issues raised on the apple discussions boards which they usually don’t admit too! I asked what to do next and the advisor apologised and said this is clearly a software glitch and will be resolved in the next update. I asked for a timescale but unfortunately none was given.

As stated above I have tried all the troubleshooting methods discussed on forums and on tech websites but the only thing that gives me a stable connection without any disconnects (especially on my 6 plus) is turning cellular/mobile data off when I know I’m going to be on Wi-Fi for a sustained period of time (e.g. at home or work). I appreciate this is annoying but it’s the best temp fix until an update comes out.

Hope it helps everyone who is having issues with their devices that have cellular functionality.

    Any comments welcome

Apple also told me that they believe this is a software issue that they "hope" to solve with the release of iOS8.1. However, it isn't completely clear that they have the solution yet. I'm now on my third brand new iPhone 6 and each one has exactly the same wifi (dropping with the inability to scan and dropping while sleeping) issues. I have noticed that repeatedly resetting the Network settings (not resetting all settings) eventually helps. Once I have done this a dozen or so times, the interval between wifi service losses tends to get much longer. After MANY Network resets, there are still multiple incidences of wifi loss, and sometimes after fairly short intervals, but the improvement is dramatic. My 5S running iOS8, as updated, has not had any problem, so I was surprised to read that you had an issue with that.

Yes I have this exact problem too. My iPhone 5 and iPad Mini seem well connected to the same network when my brand new iPhone 6 keeps dropping the wifi network, this is so costly for my 3G data pack

This helped me out.  Have to change settings on your router.

After two days of WiFi becoming erratic again and having to repeatedly reset router and phone with only short term results, I tried something new: I changed my router Wireless Security settings (WPA/WPA2 - Personal) as follows:

    Version: from Automatic to WPA-PSK

    Encryption: from Automatic to AES.

No trouble for 24 hours since. Fingers crossed.

Updated to 8.1 - Still having to reboot my iPhone 6 every time I switch to a new wireless access point.

    Very, very frustrating.

So is this an issue Apple plans to fix?  I've had every version of the Iphone since it came out, and all have issues.  I ignored most as I've always worked in areas where I could not use my phone or have it with me, but now that I can... and I upgraded to the 6, I'm kinda ticked my phone keeps dropping my wi-fi. In addition, not sure if anyone else had this issue but mine keeps randomly dropping service.  Every so often, it will fall out of service then seconds later, full service with LTE. Im on the Sprint network, though its not the best, but its far from the worst...  and no, I'm not in an area with poor reception.  Im speaking of areas where I have full service with LTE, then all of a sudden drops to "No Service".  As for the WiFi issue; the fixes are ridiculous, like right now im in my office, on my laptop there are 10 different wireless networks and hot-spots, on my phone, its searching... spinning out of control for the last 10 minutes, which prompted me to look this issue up..  Changing the settings on your home router, ect. is not a fix, rebooting is not a fix, toggling the wifi ant. is not a fix... a fix would be a firmware update.  Can you imagine going to your friends house, you have no LTE or 3G, so you want to use his/her wifi, but you have to get them to change their router settings..., or perhaps you're at the DMV/MVA, Dr. Office,...are you going to ask them to be kind enough to allow you to change their wifi settings so you can get on?.. that will go over well at the box office...
