Q: wifi issues with iphone 6

Hi All,

Is anyone facing the issues with the wifi on iphone 6? I was connected to wi-fi but after I restarted the router by powering off/on, I wasn't able to connect to the wifi until I restarted my phone. Also even after toggling the wifi on/off on my phone I couldn't see any wifi signals where as I am supposed to see atleast 10 signals. Can someone please tell the steps to resolve this issue? Is this an hardware or an software issue on the phone?

iPhone 6, iOS 8

The Wi-Fi drop outs continue! Spoke to an AppleCare UK representative yesterday and advised that I had tried all the possible steps to resolve. He agreed and said it could only be down to hardware so best to get a replacement.

I honestly don't think it will resolve the issue but the problem is the advisor said I was the first one to report wifi issues so I don't think they are going to acknowledge any time soon!

What to do as my return date is Monday 6th and I'm on my third iPhone 6 Plus 64GB -

    1. Had yellow screen in bottom left hand corner and also dropped connection once ( 8.0)

    2. Had a yellow screen and decolouring across the whole screen (8.0)

    3. My current one - great screen but continuous Wi-Fi drop out issues (8.0.2)!!

Do you think its worth risking it for another replacement?!

After having the problem with two iPhone 6 phones using a restore from my backup, I restored my phone and and set it up as new and I've been running fine for about two days now. Apple does seem to be aware of the problem although I think more people need to call me so they are convinced that it truly is an issue.

There is a strange solution but it worked for me. Turn off Cellulat data and connect with wifi. it really worked for me. now there is no wifi drop. smooth connectivity with wifi. Thought it is a temporary solution but worth for now.

This is definitely software, but still is good to call Apple and report the issue, even have them replace it so it will become more and more noticeable for them due to the cost of replacing so many phones cause by the same problem. This has to be happening to them as well, at my office co-workers have the same problem with their iphones daily. In my case I workaround it by Resetting the Network settings, it always comes back and works just fine afterwards.

Today it happen again and I lost all available Network Connections at the office. I found at a different post to check how frequently the iPhone switches from Wifi N 5Ghz <> LTE <> Wifi bg 2.4Ghz, given that somebody else has found out that when this happens the iPhone reaches a point that it stops updating the Wifi networks and stops looking for them.

Long story short at home wifi flaps when I am across the house so it constantly flaps between N and BG to a point where it loses the Wifi networks (Samsung Galaxy 4 works just fine at the same distance, so for me its just that the antenna in this iPhone s u c k s in terms of range, other devices have the same problem). Same at work, but at work is caused by a problem we have with the Access Points which causes the wifi network to flap constantly.

Last Thursday at home I disabled my BG network and kept using only N, so when the phone is not in range it will switch to LTE and stay there. If I am in range it switches back to N. So far no issues it has been connecting to the N network just fine and when I am out of range it just switches to LTE, but can still look for other networks and when I am in range it connects back to it.

At work well thats a problem of our networking team to have the Access point fixed, but while the Access Point is stable, I have no issues.

Hope this helps for others and if positive results are given then post them here to let others know that might work as a temporary fix. Lets wait and see if Apple will come up with something soon, this type of things that happen since day 1 take time to resolve as they need to check with the provider of the driver, antenna and their code to see what is happening.

I solved my wifi drops by turning off location services for weather. The problem with the stock weather app is that it tries to update the weather right away after waking iPhone while wifi tries to wake too. The times that I have no wifi is when waking the phone. The location icon turns on, and the wifi icon turns off almost at the same time. I turned off location services for weather, and have had zero wifi drops since and this has been for the last 5 days. prior to that, at least once a day I would lose wifi when waking the phones and the only way to fix was power phone off and on.

My phone is now able to hold a connection at home at least to my 2.4Ghz band.

Here are the various steps I tried

I restored clean to 8.00 ( as instructed by Apple Support)

    Cleared Network settings.

I've upgraded over time to 8.02

I don't use bluetooth except when necessary, so often at home it is off.

    I turned off Wi-fi networking...

When I reconnected to my home Wifi, I connected to 2.4GHz instead of 5Ghz, Some suggested that the 5GHz band may be involved.

It's now been the better part of a week and I have not had to restart nor had the connection drop.  Not ideal and there's still no excuse for it, but at least I have something that works until a true fix is developed and released.

Thanks for sharing - I tried turning location services for weather too and now monitoring for wifi drops. I will post here the results after a few days.

Through iTunes - this was prior to 8.01 or 8.02 being released.

I turned off location services for weather.  So far, I think I've been okay.  It's only been a couple of days, but the wifi drops have been less frequent.  This is in addition to turning off the wifi location tracking (which I had read in an article may be contributing).  It's not a perfect fix, but it's working so far.

I thought you had downgrade from 8.0.2 to 8.0...

I've made 5th recover of iOS 8.0.2 today, losing all my files again:( however, that wasn't so terrible as when I lost all my working docs when I tried to restore and connected to icloud, all iwork docs simply disappeared(

After this last recover, I turned off wifi, Bluetooth, location, FaceTime, iMassage and other services as well as mobile internet connection. I've log out from iTunes and iCloud accounts. Now I have only phone, sms and camera turned on. From this moment I have only two sudden restarts and no freezes for approximately 4 hours. Both restarts contained bug 115 in phone details.

    All,

Just to give you my chain of events. I'm now on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus - All brand new retail replacements (Not via genius bar). All four of them have been running iOS 8 and then 8.0.2 and unfortunately they have ALL exhibited the same wifi issues :

    1. Cannot connect or find any wireless networks - Reboot required
    2. Wi-Fi connected with full coverage but no internet or activity - Wi-fi toggle on/off required.
    3. When phone is left idle/sleep for long periods of time especially overnight wifi remains connected with full coverage but needs a on/off toggle to restart connection.
    4. No speed issues - Always maximum when connected so not facing that issue. 5. They have mainly been on my 5ghz network but similar issues do occur when tried on 2.4ghz.

Now the thing that leads me to believe is that this all down to software and only certain routers/ network setups is that I have got a work 5S that had no issues on i0S 8.0 on my my network but yesterday when I got my latest plus I updated both 5S 6+ to 8.0.2 and configured them exactly the same on my 5Ghz network. This morning they both exhibited the same wifi issues and when coming back after a 6 hours the 5S that had worked perfectly before couldn't detect wifi on my 5G network.

This shows that its a iOS 8 issue that only caused issues with some devices that are connected to a certain routers.

My brothers got the iP6 in his house that has no issues with his router.

So bottom line no need to get hardware replaced 4 times like me, we just have to wait for apple to address the issue in the next update and live with the unstable networks for a bit long which I appreciate shouldn't be the case for devices that we all pay so much for!

Other than that I love my ip6+ - By far the best phone I have ever owned!
