Q: Can't sync music anymore with iOS 8. All disappeared.

Okay, I just updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 8 two days ago. Today, I wanted to put more music from my iTunes in my PC. Note that my iTunes in PC is recently updated. When I started syncing my new music, it won't work. When I start playing a song in my phone, won't work too. Almost all disappeared. From having 664 songs, I have 16 left. Please help. I want my music back.

I ended up not using Sync at all.  Just create the playlists I need in iPhone and go to the PC iTunes and copy the songs in the corresponding playlists into the iPhone's.  My libraries of songs don't change that much.  So this "solution" is good enough for me because now I can play all the songs in my 128 GB investment.

Still no excuse, Apple.  If there is ONE thing the iPhone needs to work besides making phone calls, it is the SYNC with iTunes!!!!!!

Part of this thread worked for me (deleting songs from the iPhone then syncing again). But I still am having an issue with 7 purchased songs that seem to be "sticking". I only have one playlist syncing, and these songs aren't even in there, but they are greyed out when looking at what has synced with my iPhone. I've seen a couple of things on the web stating that there are some issues with purchased songs and syncing - supposedly it has to do with duplicates, but I don't have any. I just updated my iPhone today and still have the issue. Any thoughts?

This thing has been driving me absolutely crazy for the last three months. I tried nearly all of the suggestions here. Managing music on my iPhone manually seemed to work best, but yesterday it started making problems, too. Besides it's not very comfortable to do this manually. That's why you use Apple, because everything is running smoothly and automatically, don't you?

So I decided to try one last thing and deleted my whole iTunes Library and imported all my music to iTunes again and then synced it with my iphone. When it asked if I really wanted to sync with this unknown iTunes Library I was a bit afraid, I would have to download and configure all my apps again, but they remained the same. And for the music...

So far it is really working!!

I synced about ten times yesterday and today to see if the problem reoccurs, but everything seems fine. I lost all my ratings for the songs, but I don't care as long as I can plug in my iPhone again without the fear of having (nearly) no music on it afterwards. So I guess (at least in my case) it was some error in the iTunes Library.

Merely syncing is not the problem. It's changing what is being synched makes the problem reappear.

There are easy ways of rebuilding your iTunes library without losing all your ratings etc

Prior to the installation of ios8, I had never had any problems with my iPhone but since updating to this atrocious update I have had to fully restore my phone SIX times as it keeps removing all of the music other than those bought on iTunes and deleting the artwork. The amount of time wasted on the phone to Apple (who go through loads of "solutions" for an hour before telling me to restore it) and putting 8000+ songs back on to the phone is ludicrous.

The solutions I have been given were useless. When I call Apple I am told that I am the only person to have had this problem, but a quick search proves this not to be the case as can be seen on this thread. After syncing, the "Other" bar sometimes goes up to over 40GB and my music is removed. I have had this THREE times in the last week and have had to do a full restore. I'm too scared to sync my phone and will not be accepting any future updates as ios8 is, to me, not an improvement but a virus. It has tuned a great, fully functioning device into something which is frustrating and useless and no one at Apple seems to know how to resolve it. Never in my life did I ever think I may have considered moving to Android, but my experience with ios8 has made me lose all faith in Apple. It has been rushed out with seemingly no checking for bugs.

I tried restoring the phone a dozen times, only to have it  return, and feel like throwing the phone into the garbage. So I decided  to try an iCloud backup and restore. WARNING: iCloud restore is complete garbage. I made a list of 14 bugs I encountered in the very painful process, as if Apple never actually tested this god  forsaken feature at all. Not to mention you need a very fast pipe to the internet and about 5 days or more of extreme patience. Nevertheless, it seems ok so far as far as the music sync issue, but I would hardly be shocked if this garbage product had it return again. Don't waste your time talking to Apple support, they'll just absorb your valuable time, and solve nothing, because Apple is clueless about this problem. Believe me I tried.

All, I just had the same issue while syncing my new Iphone 6. But the issue is the files in itunes are not able to be located. This if you see under the music folder and go to your playlist it will be shown with a ! mark inside a circle. If you locate one of the file in there then the rest gets picked up and syncs up. Please check this if you have an issue.

FINALLY SOMETHING WORKED. THIS BELOW LINK REALLY FINALLY HELPED! 2 months of idiotic behaviour is over! (and I had not the matching on).

Problemm likely related to the iCloud sync as I turned that off that seemed to make diff compared to many other help proposals.

    Just follow him:

I have read all solution and issues and not one has worked for me. I have the regular iPhone 6 that's 64GB , I just got the phone a few days ago and I don't/never used iCloud before. I like starting fresh whenever I get a new phone. But can you plus help me, I can't live without music in my life, I will seriously return my iPhone if I can't do something about this problem.

I have an iPhone 6 plus with iOS 8.1.3 and the latest iTunes. I also couldn't sync some music. Some songs had the red square with the circle around it. My fix was very easy. In iTunes I unchecked "Convert higher bit rate songs to...AAC." I clicked "Apply" then "Sync" - problem solved!
