Q: Can't sync music anymore with iOS 8. All disappeared.

Okay, I just updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 8 two days ago. Today, I wanted to put more music from my iTunes in my PC. Note that my iTunes in PC is recently updated. When I started syncing my new music, it won't work. When I start playing a song in my phone, won't work too. Almost all disappeared. From having 664 songs, I have 16 left. Please help. I want my music back.

I tried everything in this post, and there was still no syncing.  128GB with 10,000+ songs.

The only thing that worked for me was to quit itunes, delete the itunes preference files (oldest apple fix there is), restart itunes.  Can't believe I didn't try this sooner.  I still can't sync all music, but I've been selecting one letter at a time in genre's, and it is finally coming in to the iphone.  I had also signed out of itunes store on the mac, but I don't think that was it.

I hope this can help someone else's frustration and save them a day of troubleshooting.

Dear Apple, you need to resolve this in an update!  Your product does not work as advertised.  I bought this thing mostly for music

Hello all... I admit that I haven't gone through and read every post here but after reading the first few pages looking for an answer, I stumbled upon a solution that worked for me... forgive me if this has been already stated, but for the sake of others googling for an answer, here is what worked for me:

I had greyed out songs in the iphone music app that could not be deleted and I had tried several combinations of syncing, checking and unchecking sync options in itunes, re-adding and removing the same tracks and nothing allowed me to delete these songs. I do not have iTunes match enabled and am not backing up wirelessly to iCloud ... I couldn't figure out what was going on because on top of that, these greyed out songs disappeared when I was in airplane mode. Here's what I did:

First... this will remove all music from the music app so if there are any songs or voice memos that you don't already have in your itunes on your computer, transfer them first... (it will leave your podcasts intact providing you have the podcasts app installed)

Using 3rd party software, I viewed the raw file system of the iPhone (how you do this is up to you... I used iFunbox), navigating to: var/mobile/media/iTunes_Control/iTunes ... I selected the file 'MediaLibrary.sqlitedb', made a backup copy on my desktop and then deleted it from the iphone. I restarted the iphone and the problem tracks were gone. In fact, the music app was finally completely empty... then a moment later, the U2 album showed up (which was fine since I hadn't bothered to officially remove it before) and then I was able to start filling it with songs in the usual manner, which for me was adding them manually. SUCCESS!

I can't say with any certainty but I believe that the MediaLibrary.sqlitedb file is the iOS equivalent of the iTunesLibrary.xml file in OSX... the file that has all the information about your library except the actual songs files themselves... so what I figure is this medialibrary file had gotten corrupted from interrupted sync sessions or something and deleting it forced iOS to rebuild one from scratch and now everything seems to be cool.

    I hope this helps...

Sorry, I may have spoken too soon in regards to the podcasts... it appears they too get removed, however your subscription and other podcast settings stay intact.

Not for me. I'm at my wits end with Apple. There's no support on this issue, they keep recommending the same crap that doesn't work. I mean look at this thread, it's about September last year and it's still going on.

I've tried every single fix in this thread, the reboot thing worked for less than 24 hours, I just put one more song on my Iphone and all of a sudden the 500+ non itunes music files that i've maintained for years and spent hours last night reworking after it broke the first time, has AGAIN desynced. Everything is gone. I can't locate files because it simply doesn't give me the option.

    This needs to be fixed.

A full backup and restore from iCloud seemed to do it for me. Backup and restore to iTunes, not so much.

Already tried a restore  twice unfortunately hasn't worked. Think I might just restore to factory settings and set it up as a new phone.

I am wondering what if i don't have music sync enabled?

Is there a workaround to that. Unfortunately i couldn't find anything. Hope someone here could help me out.

I Just restored to factory settings and set up as a new phone as per Apple technicians advice. apparently it might be a memory issue and simply restoring then copying from backup might  be copying over the bug that causes this sync issue too. It seems to have worked, was able to add pretty much all my music again.

Welsher, if you're suggesting that a random memory corruption error is causing a Software bug  preventing sync, I'd say the chances that all of us here experienced the same thing is roughly the same chance that it s was caused by pink unicorns fluttering their wings. Don't let the Apple technicians befuddle you.

As for the fact that restoring it seems to Fix it, yes it does Fix it for sure, with varying degrees of permanence. For some of us this lasted a day, a week, a month etc.

It's not even remotely as far fetched as you're implying. I'm inclined to agree with them.

We shall see how it goes for me then, fingers crossed that it lasts - because it sure as **** looks like Apple isn't concerned about fixing it.

Like many of you I have tried everything to solve this problem, but nothing seems to work. So last week Apple released iOS 8.2 and they claim that this version:

    • Resolves an issue where some music or playlists didn't sync from iTunes to the Music app

DrLizrd, you are referring to iOS 8.3 (I assume beta 3) , however if anyone could confirm that version 8.2 effectively solves the problem I, and almost everyone out there, would really appreciate it. Thanks guys!
