Q: Can't sync music anymore with iOS 8. All disappeared.

Okay, I just updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 8 two days ago. Today, I wanted to put more music from my iTunes in my PC. Note that my iTunes in PC is recently updated. When I started syncing my new music, it won't work. When I start playing a song in my phone, won't work too. Almost all disappeared. From having 664 songs, I have 16 left. Please help. I want my music back.

not a single one of these fixes worked for me on an iphone 5 16gb even after 8.0.2. it is doubtful apple will even pay any attention to this as they want their customers to go buy an ipod and gouge their customers further. it's astonishing that there's not a single response from apple on this.

Just got the iPhone 6, tried to sync all my music and got nothing. Turned off Match. The Network Settings workaround did not work for me. Here's what appears to have worked:

Go to iTunes, then go to "More" on the bottom right, then Shared, then click on the same name of your library in your iTunes account. This appears to have done the trick for me.

Has anyone heard anything out of Apple on this issue?  I was hoping the fix would have come with the 8.0.2 update....

Sigh, I have now been trying to sync music using all the hints and tricks since I received my iPhone 6 on the 19th and am now really fed up. Countless restores, changes of settings, cable syncs, WLAN syncs, iTunes Match downloads - nothing helped. After a second or third sync (backups) the music always disappeared at last while trying to play it.

Such an issue may not happen with an Apple product as they are in the highest price segment and people usually buy their products BECAUSE they don't want to have any issues with the most basic features.

I have now requested a full return to get my (converted) USD 1140 back - this is the price of a 128GB iPhone 6 in Germany (which was meant to hold all my music).

Thanks for all your help and good luck for those who could not fix the issue as well - maybe Apple will take care, but after reading some comments that this is a known problem at least since iOS 7, I doubt it. Luckily it has just started now for me while I am still able to return the phone.

    Yes, this worked!

Nothing syncing before, cover art missing, a total mess. I thought it was the result of an unholy union of Yosemite Beta and IOS8.

    Many thanks!

In the past I was able to fix my sync problem using these types of steps. HOWEVER, sometimes after one or two syncs, the problem recurred. Then it would be fixed for a few months and then it recurred again. I kept thinking that Apple would permanently fix this problem. If you search the discussion boards (e.g., use the phrase "waiting for changes to be applied" because that is a common manifestation of this problem) you can find these problems have existed at least as far back as iOS 5 and over at least the last 2-3 years if not longer. For some reason it seems there are far fewer problems with music sync on iPods. I have never had a problem syncing any of my iPods (I have 5) with exactly the same music library. But I have had multiple problems syncing my iPhone. It baffles me why Apple hasn't been able to fix this at an early stage. I think the problem may be related to either certain music filetypes that iTunes struggles to handle or some corrupt music files which iTunes doesn't properly process. It would seem possible to include in iTunes programming the ability to bypass such files and notify the user which files are causing problems rather than just choking the problem and causing it to either hang or fail to properly sync music. But maybe I'm misdiagnosing the problem. In any case, this has been very frustrating and discouraging. I have been a diehard Apple fan since owning an Apple IIe computer MANY years ago. I attended the announcement of the first Macintosh computer by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and have used Apple computers and devices ever since. I have used them, in part, because they were usually easier to use and more reliable as well as better serving my needs. But in recent years, problems like this have been cropping up that are shaking my faith in those features of the company which had been so endearing for so many years.

Note that when manually manage music is selected, if you add any music to your library, it will not be automatically synced to your phone until you manually select it. I think that means you have to click every item that you want added. If you have a large library that could be a lot of clicks. If you click the box to sync all music, it seems that sometimes the problem recurs.

I checked the box to manually manage music and my phone synced, but then I clicked the box to sync all music and iTunes then decided that all of my music on my phone was not music but some other type of data file and said I no longer had enough space for my music on my phone and I needed an additional 30 GB of space even though previously I had >6 GB free space. So I restored my phone to its original settings, then restored from my backup and now it has synced and it appears that all music has been copied. Now for the moment, it appears to be working perfectly. That sync, by the way took more than 3-4 hours. I finally gave up and went to bed and let it run all night so don't know how long it actually took (the whole process took a couple more hours for the restorations). But it was finally finished by morning. I'm curious now, to see how long this will work. I have had problems syncing music on my phone intermittently for more than a year. I really, really hope it is finally fixed.
