Q: Bug Finale SongBook Cannot replay .mus file because keyboard pops up

Hi, after updating to iOS8 today I cannot replay my Finale SongBook files (.mus) on iPad Air because the new keyboard pops up instantly and hides the SongBook surface. Its a bug, .mus files are not editable. Please update, need the playback for practice. thx

Only workable solution I have found is to undock the on-screen keyboard.  Hold down the keyboard button in lower right corner for the option.  This at least makes the playback controls accessible; however, your view of the music is considerably blocked as a result.  Clearly, there should be an option to disable the on-screen keyboard in apps that don't require its use.

    KB1944,

Thank you for responding, but this is not a workable solution.

If the music is covered by the keyboard it cannot be read.

Finale SongBook developer is in no hurry to fix the bug if indeed it is their problem and not iOS8.

IOS8 has wiped out my FaceTime also.

If I could get back to iOS7 I would do it in a flash.

Apple is no help and Music Makers just as bad. Attach a bluetooth keyboard or DIGIT AirTurner to the iPad and the damned virtual keyboard will go away. You should be able to use Song book now. Good luck. Frank ...

    Hello Frank,

This is a very clever solution, and it does work.  Of course, now I have to carry a keyboard with the iPad when out for music.

I am looking for some way to voice a complaint to Apple for letting the unusable app continue to be published.

I'm open to any suggestion you may have.

Thank you for taking the time to come up with this fix.  I would never have thought of it.

Hey everyone.  I just fired up Finale SongBook for the first time in several months and discovered the same problem.  I've discovered a workaround that might be helpful (since it doesn't look a patch is in the works anytime soon), and it's surprisingly easy...Guided Access Mode

If you use Finale SongBook in Guided Access Mode, you can tell Guided Access Mode you want to disable the keyboard (under Hardware Buttons >> Options), then when the keyboard pops up and you minimize it, it won't pop back up anymore.

It's kinda silly to have to do that just to use the program, but hey, whatever works, right?  Hope this helps someone who either has the keyboard pop-up problem or has yet to discover it.

UPDATE: I just discovered that Finale SongBook was officially discontinued back in December.  That said, if you removed SongBook from your iPad and want to get it back and just use the workaround, try this: go to the AppStore (which is supposed to keep a record of everything you've ever downloaded), then go under "Purchased" (yes, even though it was a free app), then scroll down until you see Finale SongBook and re-download it.  The download link appears to still work even though MakeMusic doesn't "technically" offer the software anymore.
