Server 3.2.1 Installation Failure

I had an install failure of Server 3.2.1. The exact error was "Error enabling server management. A problem was detected with Server. Please redownload Server from the Apple Store."

I did a Time Machine restore to version 3.1.2 and I receive the same error upon reinstallation.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Apple said to remove the Server app, reboot and then reinstall from the newest version from the Apple Store. What was the solution that was found to work the best.?

Thanks,

Rocky

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.

Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Please read through the logs from the installation, looking for some information on what might be failing — that error seems to be a catch-all error, with various possible triggers.

As a near-last-resort and if you don't have much customization (as this'll clobber what you have), then the other option is to delete the existing settings and start over again. (This reset sequence is the closest I've encountered in the official documentation.)

Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.

Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.

Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

Hi,

I could tell once I launched the Server app (after booting in/out of Safe Mode), as it immediately went into the console (after I chose the applicable computer), and didn't ask to apply the update. Thanks for the pointer. I'd normally have thought of that, but I guess at 3:30 AM when I applied the update, I didn't feel like messing around for the solution.

And worse yet, sorry Linc, as I mistakenly gave the credit for the solution to the other poster....

Regards,

Rocky
