IBooks IOS 8 will not sync all books

I have an ipad air upgraded to IOS 8 and had problems with Backing up and Syncing. Restored IPAD as a new one and then put everything back on. Ibooks will not sync all my books and i have a lot it will only sync ones on the icloud. Is this an issue with Ibooks and when will it be rectified and if not what are the possible solutions to this problem? Thanks Cheers Jammy

ok i have discovered a few things which indicate an issue with itunes or ibooks or both. When syncing the check goes from all to selected books i then put it back and hit apply and sync again. I then go to tbe books listed under ipad (drop down arrow) and check tht the right number is jn fhere. . Now to the interesting part, i have over 9,000 books and it aill not sync the volume it cancels sync however i decided to remove them all and started to add folders alphabetically. if you go over 1,000 at a time it has to be checked as above to ensure the books continue to install. This is a long abd laborious task but it is working i have ovef 6,0000 on there now. I do hope they fix this as it is very annoying, it also has a problem with books over 2 mg and you have to sync as above even more before it will load that book and continue on.

I have had the same problem, where it only synced a few books at a time (I have over 2000 on the iPad iBooks app). I did not have to remove any books but cmd-clicked them all as iTunes did not like the option to sync all books. Then, every time I synced the iPad 50-150 would be copied over to iPad before sync was cancelled. Now all my books are back on the iPad and I hope that they stay there - but as this is something that happened randomly I have no guarantees. The only positive thing I can say about this process is, unlike before when all my books vanished, they have copied over not only into the right collection (as organised in iBooks on Mac) but also in the right shelf order! So at least I don't have to spend hours moving each title into the correct shelf.

I have been onto Apple Tech support about this and they have sent up the information as a bug report. They have no idea how or why it happened, and could offer no more advice than what I was already doing to get the books back onto iPad.

Awwww!

Very good job of "Infinite Loop 1 gang" ...

Do they know we use iPad to work day by day and not play with, as probably they do 24-7 !?!?

How they roll stuff out with no accurate trial?

Merchants, and the worst kind of !

I probably need to downgrade 7 with a restore of mi iPad Retina if I'll be able to.

I 'll write the result, if restart all OK. Otherwise means iPad has gone by....

I am having many of the same problems. My collection of books will not sync to my iPhone 5. I turn on sync all books in iTunes, and try to sync the phone. It crashes after a few hundred (I have over 2000 books). I re-sync and get a couple of hundred more before it cancels the sync. Once I manage to get all the books synced, if I disconnect the phone and later reconnect it to sync music etc, sync all books has been turned off and iTunes removes all the books I laboriously synced the day before. I've even seen iTunes turn off sync all books right before my eyes.

Is this a bug with iOS 8 and iTunes 11? Is this a problem with the epub files? Am I doing something wrong?

*** Apple. First the disaster that is iBooks for Mac and now this. If I didn't rely on the position synching between reading on my Mac and iPad/iPhone, I would ditch iBooks altogether and use Marvin.

I think that with every day and every release, Apple is simply sinking further down into the hall of shame! What happened to those days when books, media, music synced seamlessly and in seconds? I have about 4000 books (all gotten honestly and yes. Not all from Apple's greedy little store) and now with my 128GB iPad and iTunes and iOS (should I say POS?) 8.1, I cannot sync my books and see my books at all. I have tried multiple syncs, unchecks, select alls....Nothing works. It appears that Apple just created a lovely over expensive brick for me. I have not found any solutions online and Apple is very mum on the subject. If only Tim Cook spent more time on quality and less on activism that nobody really has time for....At this rate, it is adios apple and hello android...At least they don't waste people's time getting them to sync only to lose stuff....Ridiculous

I had a similar problem where I simply couldn't get an epub book to sync to my iPhone6 w/ iOS8 thought it was on my iTunes account. I just finished talking to Kendra at Apple Care (she's on the advanced support) and these are the steps we did which might help..

Seems like most of you have already imported your books, but if not:

in iTunes, go to the books icon (you might have to click on the "..." first) which will show the books you have.

Click on File > Add File to Library (and add your book here)

Note that if you don't have the File menu click on the top left small square that has the dark grey on left and light grey on right and select "show menu bar"

Now that your book is added, sync it.

Connect your device so that you can see the iPhone/iPad icon (I'm using an iPhone)

Click on the icon and you'll now get a menu that shows your device, and you'll have "Settings" w/ menu options and "On my Device" with multiple menu options

Under the "Settings" click on the "Books"

Make sure you have "Sync Books" selected. I then selected "All Books" and clicked "Sync" at the bottom right

After this I finally had the epub book on my iPhone

Since ePub and PDF files are basically treated the same, these steps would work for PDF files too.

Good luck! I was quite frustrated that I had to do these extra steps as I just assumed all would be synced easily w/ iBooks but at least now I have a solution for me. Hope it works for you.

The problem is, if you have a lot of books the sync will abort after about 100-300 books are copied to the device.

You have to press sync again, and then it will sync another 100 to 300 books. This way you can get all your books synced, but it really s*cks.

Note that you must not reboot the device or restart itunes before you are completely synced; otherwise you have to start from the beginning.

I also experienced in iTunes the radio button will jump from "All Books" to "Selected Books" with all books selected. Do not try to fight it and do not set it back to "All Books", or you will also have to start from the beginning. Just keep an eye on the sync process and click the sync button every time after itunes stops syncing. You should see that (after a a minute or so saying "Wating for changes to be applied"), itunes will show "copying x of y:name of book", and the value y should be lower every time you start a new sync.

Repeat syncing until all books have been copied to the device, and try syncing once or twice again because sometimes itunes seems to find a book or two to sync even if it locked as if everything has been snyced.

An indication that you are ready with syncing is that the memory bar for the device will show the space occupied by your books.

Hope this helps until Apple fixes that.

However, this problem is still there on January 25th 2015, using iTunes 12.0.1.65 on OSX 10.10.1 and iOS 8.1.2.

Shame on you, Apple, for not being able to fix it since Sept. 2014.

Some log for those finding the bug:

There is nothing in the system log on OSX.

This is the log output from the device immediately after hitting the "Sync" button on itunes:

I've had the same problem Syncing lots of books (about 3,000 in my case), and it always timed out at around 250. For me it's always the same number, almost like binary 256, which leads me to believe it's a software variable definition error. And yes, you can just keep hitting the sync button after the end of every "lap" to eventually get all of them.

Anyway, I did find a workaround that worked for my iPad: instead of syncing via USB, which is usually faster, try the Books sync using wi-fi (you must go through authorization and permissions with both computer and phone/tablet the first time). In that case, over a good N network router, the remaning 2,000 books all went on all at once fairly quickly. It's apparently a USB port time-out phenomena, so make sure your USB ports are not set in "power save" mode (the default in Windows 8.1--I don't know about Mac). But still, wireless may be best in this case, which is counterintuitive considering long wireless file transfers are usually less reliable the hard-wire. Funny how an older iPhone can take hours to sync 5,000 songs and not time-out, but just 3,000 books using a lot less data dies prematurely.

I just got an iPhone 6 Plus with 128 GB, plenty for all my books and quite readable, and I've tried the wireless bulk book sync, but so far I haven't gotten wi-fi Sync to recognize my PC, a typical problem with Microsoft networks talking to Apple devices. I'm betting that once it does, all the books will quickly. Until then, the iPhone 6 Plus is actually quite fast at completing the 250-book cycle, so I may get all of them done before wi-fi connects. I just leave iTunes on and click Sync every few hours, including watching TV which is connected directly to PC graphics via HDMI. It's like the old days when you could only copy one folder at a time in DOS 1.0--think of it as 1980s retro-computing, like cassette tapes and scratchy vinyl.

And yes, you are all right that it's "shame on Apple" for not fixing this after about a year now. I'm a software/network engineer with 30 years experience, and it's a shame on our profession. Old school folks like me would never let such cocca persist.

Very similar and outrageous problems!

I am trying to sync 6000 books and pdfs. This has always worked perfectly happily with my previous iPad Air. With iPad Air 2 I get the following sequence

it begins to sync, gets to about 400 (of 6000) then cancels sync

I then have to sync again and reset radio button from Selected to All. Interestingly, it almost never has actually copied the 400, but only about half that

This is taking hours and hours

Last night I abandoned it with the intention of resuming this morning. Guess what? When I began synching again it started the whole process from the beginning, resyching all 6000 as if there were none already on the iPad!. And of course cancelling again after each batch of around 400.

Does this mean that EVERY time I sync with a restored computer or iTunes I can expect the process to begin all over again? If so, the iPad is unusable to me and I shall want my money back. First time I have contemplated this is in over 25 years of exclusive Mac use.

What is the root of this problem?

IBooks IOS 8 will not sync all books
