Jan 4, 2016 12:49 PM in response to Nidzosaurusby Javed_YVR,To all those who have been able to solve the problem, you were lucky. Thank you for your response.
1- But my case is different. Once microphone of the headset is burnt out, it will stop working on every device including, but not limited to, MacBook, Windows laptops, iphone5, iPad4, Samsung Galaxy, not just a particular iphone6 Plus only. In short, the mic does burn out randomly when headphones are used with my iphone6 Plus. The headphone speakers continue to work normal.
2- Secondly, iPhone6, iPhone6Plus and iPhone6S are concealed devices with absolutely no user serviceable parts. Even battery is NOT swappable by end-user. Chances of further damaging the headphone jack are much higher when using screws, toothpicks, etc. to take out lints or for cleaning the Jack terminals. Probably, a purpose built blower/vacuum cleaner for iPhones can be helpful to suck-out any lint. Until that becomes available, I am not risking loosing my factory warranty. Fortunately, I don't see any lint in the headphone jack hole, unless it was inserted by Apple during the manufacturing that is not viewable by the end user.
3- I paid for the iPhone6+ directly to Verizon using my personal credit card and my employer never pays for iPhones nor reimburses them nor I was reimbursed for it. In short, I own it. Verizon took my personal home address for delivery address for the replacement set under warranty. However, Apple chose to give me yet another surprise and sent the replacement to my employer's headquarters! Hence, over the holidays, I had to continue to live with this misery. My employer has redirected the shipment to me and shall reach me soon.4- I checked with my extended circles of friends. None of them is happy with recent models starting iphone6. The Jack problem seems to be inherent to all iphone6, iPhone6S and iPhone6 Plus - Hence it is confirmed to be a manufacturing defect, IMO.

Jan 8, 2016 12:49 PM in response to moonthby GN79,Hey thank you so much!
My original apple headphones wouldn't work properly. I mean I could still use them for listening to music but the volume controls and the on/off function stopped working. Also when I was using headphones for calls, everybody complained about poor sound quality, so I thought my phone was broken in the headphone jack.
As per your suggestion I cleaned the headphone jack. I used a needle and I rotated it gently. A significant amount of cotton came out. It must have been built from my pockets. I was amazed to see after this clean up my headphones became fully functional! All volume controls and the on/off function works! Also when I make calls with my headphones the other person can hear me clear.
Cheers!

Feb 1, 2016 7:46 AM in response to Javed_YVRby Javed_YVR,Received the replacement iphone6 plus. And I can confirm now that it is a manufacturing defect. The brand new device never left my desk. So the all the lint related noise is inapplicable. Within first two weeks the same fault has reappeared on the brand new replacement device. No wonder, apple is reportedly dropping the headphone Jack from iphone7 on wards.
Now my options are downgrade to iphone5 or switch to an Apple competitor manufactured device. But what about the rip off that occurred due to unaccepted Apple manufacturing defect. I paid for this crappy phone model for nothing as its of no use to me and has only caused embarrassment to me in front my customers and employer.

Feb 11, 2016 7:18 AM in response to sncvsrtoipby risknavigator,Same issue with my 6+. Worked fine until recently when I suddenly couldn't fully press in the headset plug (Bose). Now the plug is somewhat loose and the mic doesn't work. The phone is a bit more than 1 year old. Anyone that got some type of response from Apple about this, what it seems, common problem?

Feb 20, 2016 2:44 PM in response to MikeApexby olaormani,FIXED:
I got this issue with the jack (original Iphone 6s, Bose or DJ headphones) , none of them could get inserted. I called Apple, they refereed me to nearest AT&T store with certified Apple technicians. They took a look inside the jack with a flash light and a doctors tool to see inside the ears.
In my case, I normally use jeans, how you ever look inside a jeans pocket???? It was cotton from the jeans pocket what was blocking my jack.
They used this tool from Samsung Galaxy (Brush Solution for charging ports) to get out the "mop", (marked in red in my picture) enough big to block my headphones jacks to get full inserted. All back to normal, now even I can use the +\- bottoms on the cable.
The technician mention that this issue is normal, because people normally put the phone on the pocket with the "hole" down, in case someone call, just get the phone a little bit out to see who is calling and if you are going to respond. Make some sense with me....

Jun 24, 2016 1:53 PM in response to MikeApexby rjliii80,I thought my issue was the jack and/or my headphones. It was actually due to lint from my pockets accumulating in the jack.
I used a can of that air (used to clean keyboards and other electronics)...and after several sprays the lint came loose and my headphone jack now fits perfectly again. Good luck.

Aug 17, 2016 9:37 AM in response to 81davidby MickeyLeeJones,I have the same problem. I've had the iPhone 6 for just over a year and just started to have these problems. All original pieces and when I have the headphones plugged in it will stop the music/video or whatever I'm playing, start Siri, shuffle things, hung up calls, etc.
What is the problem, and most important, what is the solution?

Aug 18, 2016 3:54 AM in response to MickeyLeeJonesby gibi79,Go to an Apple Store and ask to repair your iPhone 6. Otherwise ask to change your iPhone with another one.

Oct 6, 2016 1:38 PM in response to MikeApexby makazoid,My headphones got out the box 4 good months after my iPhone 6 did since the headphones for my iPhone 5 were still almost as good as new. The second I plugged it into the iPhone 6 and played music, it sounded like the jack was loose, the notorious "voice cancellation effect" when trying to eliminate vocals from a song.
However, the problem somehow got resolved, but only for the iPhone 6. I can't use it on my HP Laptop (iPhone 5 headphones used to work perfectly), fine. But I was shocked when I plugged it into my MacBook Pro (2009) and got the same output.
I tried all the techniques mentioned in this thread but none of it worked. I solved the issue (complete fluke), and later on understood why it happened.
The diagram below shows the fundamental difference between OMTP and AHJ Standards.
FYI: Apple lines up with AHJ Standards.

Solution
You need to flip the ground and the microphone for this to work. Just follow the diagram above.
My (fluke) Solution
You'll need these two adapters, in this order. That's it!
Hope this solves the problem for the MacBook users.
