Q: iphone 6 headphone jack Issues

The iPhone 6 jack has too much tolerance and 1/2 the headphones I own cause cut outs or music to stops playing.  In addition Siri will sometimes engage erroneously do to the movement in the headphone jack.  I tried and iPhone 5 and all of my jacks fit very snug without any issues.  The problem appears to be that the the iPhone 6 jack was designed to allow rotation of the connector and this is a problem for a number of headphones.

      I have been having this issue as well, where the jack does not go in all the way. However, after reading this thread I pushed the phone jack in with much more force. It clicked in and is snuggly connected now. It seems to just be a very tight fit. The force actually moved the phone inside its case and I worried that I might be causing damage, but it went in. After a few times it was much easier to connect the jack.

    It was a snug fit on my iPhone 6, too, but thankfully I had no issues with audio quality or playback.

    I've had the phone for almost a month and the tight fit has indeed loosened up slightly.

    Better to have a snug fit than a loose one, I figure...

    My iPhone 6 (64gb silver) has been doing this. When in my pocket I hear crackling if I have the music paused. The right headphone either doesn't work or is quieter than the left. I have however tried my older headphones from my iPhone 5 and they seem to work fine. Not sure if the iphone 6 headphone jack is faulty or the headphones themselves.

    I am also experiencing the same behavior with RBH EB2 headphones.  I have other headphones (some with microphone) that do not exhibit problems.

    Troubling that the problems with RBH headphones did not start until a couple of weeks after I started using the iPhone 6.

    I am planning to set up an appointment with Genius.

    I was not very luck. Got delivery of my Iphone 6 64 GB just 4 days ago and for the first time plugged in my headphone provided with the iphone 6 and the jack split! Trying to contact Apple for a replacement set!

    Hello.. I have read all the postings here. I didn't realize that this was an overall issue for more than just myself until today when I decided to do an online search to see if anyone else was experiencing similar problems. I noticed mine in the beginning - but since I only rarely use the headphones (3rd party was my favorite - (NO MIKE!) but resorted to the iPhone set which came with my 6 128 GB/gold - thinking that would help - I didn't get around to investigating further until I was trying to plug in speaker 'headphone' jacks this weekend. NOT HAPPY that none of them would work...yet work with my iPad 2. Then I decided that perhaps it was the little 'rubber' bumper wrapping around my '6' - I very carefully excised a tiny piece a short time ago - using an X-acto knife (NO, I did not scratch the '6'!)  Still there was no improvement and no ability to 'push in to click' with my jacks - including the 'official' 6 which came with the iPhone. I did get mine that first weekend - at my local Verizon Wireless store. I will take it back to my local Apple store first - and, hopefully, they are familiar with the problem and will give me an exchange. I don't relish this as it 'forever' to load up everything onto the new '6' the way I wanted it! But I DO need to resolve this now - since I plan to keep the phone for at least 2 years. Wish me luck! :-)

    I am having the same problem with my iPhone 6, though I've even had Siri come on with the iPhone's OEM headphones.  I also have songs start/stop playing by themselves.  It's maddening and getting worse.

    Someone mentioned it's definitely a hardware issue. Not so in my case. About six months ago, I could no longer listen to my headphones when connected to my iPhone 5. I went to an Apple store, and the Genius Bar said it would cost more than $200 to repair (along with another unrelated issue re: volume control knob not working). Did not get it repaired because I wanted to get the 6 instead. Well, guess what? Same issue with the 6. I went to an Apple Store today and the Genius Bar guy initially assumed it was a hardware problem. He gave me a new phone, and I restored my backup from the cloud. Before leaving, I asked him to test the headphones. Guess what? Yep. Didn't work. At first he thought his headphones were defective. The only thing he could conclude was that this is some sort of software issue. As a result, I have to manually download all of my apps off the cloud to troubleshoot versus simply restoring from last backup. Needless to say, a huge pain. I'm going to keep researching to see if anyone knows which app is the culprit because I have no clue. I was surprised that I was the only customer he's run into that has had this issue. It's hard to stump the Genius Bar but I unfortunately succeeded.

    iPhone 6 64GB Silver built in October (42nd week of the year).

    When Apple EarPods are connected and I'm walking, running or simply moving:

    • Siri starts randomly;
    • Music starts randomly;
    • If music is playing, it goes in pause randomly and restarts randomly.

    The problem is also described here.

    Please, guys! Report this problem in the Apple Product Feedback page too.

    The same problem has now begun with my brand new iphone6 just over a week in setting it up? I've ordered a pair of Samsung S5 headphones on the hope that it fixes the issue!

    I had no problems with my previous iPhone 5

    Took my phone to the AppleStore. They replaced it, though they couldn't spot the problem. The new phone works just fine with the headsets that weren't working before. The jack is clearly tighter. Definitely a hardware problem.

    The headphone plug would not go in all the way on my three week old iPhone 6. After reading these comments, I took it in to the Genius Bar. They looked at it and said it was pocket lint inside the jack that was keeping the plug from going in all the way. They cleaned it out but it still did not go in the same as a new iPhone on display. They took it back and cleaned it some more. This time it was fixed. You could feel the click when you put it in.

    They had told me they would not replace my phone for free since this was "physical damage," that was not covered by the warranty. For now everything seems to work fine.

    The problem I seem to have is that the headphone / earphone plug seems very temperamental and constant cutting out of the audio (Just like on some of the comments above) this wasn't a problem at first and has only just come on reasently,  I have not needed to force any plug in to the socket or had it in contact with dust as its still clean by looking inside the hole, it still plugs in as normal i now have to keep twisting the plug to in order to try and get a descent audio, I have also tried changing the headphones / earphones and this is no joy!

    Hello,

    I got my iPhone 6 today (iOS 8.1.1) and I have another similar problem! Using the same Sennheiser headphones which works well with my iPhone 4S/Ipad2, I have a really low volume when playing music. I cannot tell for call, I didn't receive yet... Reboot, no plastic cover, hearing aid mode on/off, I have tested all the workarounds given in that post (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6553326?start=75&tstart=0), nothing works. It's really annoying.

    I hope we will get an official answer from Apple soon.

    Regards.

    Pierre
