Q: iphone 6 headphone jack Issues

The iPhone 6 jack has too much tolerance and 1/2 the headphones I own cause cut outs or music to stops playing.  In addition Siri will sometimes engage erroneously do to the movement in the headphone jack.  I tried and iPhone 5 and all of my jacks fit very snug without any issues.  The problem appears to be that the the iPhone 6 jack was designed to allow rotation of the connector and this is a problem for a number of headphones.

same problem.  this is total b.s. that they don't tell you to test the headphones.  i have FOUR pairs of headphones that now DO NOT WORK with the IPhone 6, yet all three worked perfectly with my IPhone4S.

these are decent cans, not super expensive: Beyerdynamic 880 DT Pros, Grado SR 325s, Hyper X gaming headphones with detachable mic, and ATH M50s.

is it just me, or is Apple getting worse and worse?  and i've been a loyal buyer since 1984.  if a new "Apple" came along, I'd jump.  this kind of sloppiness really ****** me off.

I'm all for DIYing and solving problems on your own but it's extremely ****** that any of that is necessary with a brand new product. I've had an iPhone 6+ for a week but just today tried using headphones with it. I can't get them them to work at all. I play music or a podcast & it just plays through the phone speaker whether I plug in phones or not. I've tried the Earpods it came with, older Earpods of the same type, as well as high end monitoring headphones with a standard 3.5 stereo plug.

my sympathies.  i ended up taking it to the genius bar, where the guy disappeared and returned in five minutes, saying "there was cotton jammed" into the headphone plug.  huh?  if that's true, how could the headphone jacks didn't say in because IT WAS TOO LOOSE.

all my headphones/ear buds work fine.

what i suspect is that Apple is quietly adding some kind of washer inside the headphone jack, while blaming it in "cotton" or some such nonsense.

One of the problems with headphone jack now positioned on the bottom of the iPhone is it is very easy to get the jack full of pocket lint.  I was AMAZED at how much was in my jack when my headphone remote controls stopped working or if sound keeps cutting off or connection seems loose.  Turn the phone off and then use a paperclip (plastic coated if possible) to root out any unwanted debris.  This is usually the problem if the headphone doesn't seem to click in place properly.  Trying to push the jack into position just rams the debris even further into the jack.

I'm having this problem and there's absolutely no debris in my iPhone 6's audio port. I checked and checked again, I used Q-tips meant for electronic devices and a paper clip in it but nothing came out. I checked the audio port under an industrial strength light and it's completely clean up there.

Anyway, for me, this static headphone jack issue started just a few days ago. I was watching a video when Voice Control kept popping up whenever I heard static in my earphones. I have a pair of cheap but super reliable JLab earphones with a built-in mic that have never given me problems before. These earphones work 100% with every smartphone/tablet/mp3 player/computer in my house except for my iPhone 6. The earphones' headphone jack has a metal base, so maybe that's the culprit. I still don't know how to cover it properly.

Sometimes the problem goes away, but it always comes back with a vengeance. I'm so sick of this. There's no reason why my earphones shouldn't work properly with my iPhone 6. Other earphones, like the Apple Earpods or earphones/headphones without a built-in mic work properly with my iPhone, but not the JLabs, which are waaaay more comfortable than the rest. I swear, Apple is colluding against other headphone makers to ensure their proprietary earphones' success.

People without the issue, how did you solve it? Did you revert to using the official Apple earphones or earphones without that metal ring at the base?

So I had this problem when I first had my phone which was many months ago, the only solution I got was that I went to the Apple Store. They did all the troubleshooting they could but the problems persisted. They realized the phone itself was defective and they had to give me new one.

I'm glad your problem was solved, but unfortunately, I bought my iPhone months ago in another country, so AppleCare isn't possible for me. This is the only hardware issue I've had with the iPhone so far, plus other headphones/earphones are working properly with it, so maybe I just need to replace the JLabs, even though they work perfectly fine with every other device I own. Also, if my phone turns out to be defective somehow, I will never buy an Apple product again. It's funny how this company can charge upwards of $900 a phone but can't QC their products properly. In any case, I'm so annoyed right now that I'm contemplating switching to Android permanently.

I Completely understand. The phone was defective then and its not the only I've replaced. Since then I've replaced it 3 times with them and yesterday I had to get another one because it stopped connecting to my carriers Internet and service. I'm done with iPhone switching back to Galaxy after this and keeping the phone as an iPod if it doesn't freakin break again. Less than one year 4 phones. Jus

I Fixed this problem by taking a small piece of plastic off of a plastic grocery bag then I stabbed my headphone jack though it. This method works pretty nice for me.

I reboot mine and it works again on the headphones.  this is so broken, I am at a loss.  The phone rings, I unplug the speakers.  Then it no longer works on the headphones.  Its messed up, integration is not complete on this very expensive device.  Dare I say it, it may be time after 20 years of being true to this brand to look away to something new.

I Have a different problem with my iPhone 6. When I plug in my apple EarPods, I hear static noise which syncs with the music or any sound that comes out the earbuds. I took it to a repair phone shop and they couldn't fix the issue. They think it is a motherboard issue. I got the phone December and the problem occurred about a couple weeks ago. The phone did not encounter any water damages. The problem just happened out of the blue. My speakers are working fine however. Anytime I listen to music, the worlds are muffled and it hurt my ears. Some friends say it sound like my music is auto-tuned. Anyone have any solutions?

I think I've stumbled upon the easiest fix yet. Infant ponytail holder double wrapped around the metal plug. It's fixed my YourTech 1000 headphones.
