Q: Getting 3G toggle back in iOS 8 - Solved

All those missing the 3G toggle after updating to iOS 8 - here are some solution to try:

Mostly, everybody updated over the air(OTA) using Wi-Fi, something broke there & quite possibly also missed the included Carrier update.

As iOS 8 is a major jump, try Restoring through iTunes, it works.

You could also download the Firmware(.ipsw) file for your model & use click Shift/Option on Restore in iTunes.

Remember to backup your device in iTunes first.

Another Option is to go to an Authorized Apple Service Center & they will do it for you - tested & works.

You get your 3G toggle back in iOS 8 if your Carrier supports it.

Note : Applicable for users who had 3G toggle under Cellular in iOS 7.1.2 & lost it after updating to iOS 8

iPhone 5c, iOS 7.1.2, Windows 7

I have been using it since 3-4 days now. Works perfectly. Doesn't seem to break anything yet. Going to the service centre doesn't help. Those guys are as clueless as ever! I even called the Apple Customer care and requested them for a solution and that didn't help too.............

P.S.: This patch was made by the Gevey/ R SIM community or something.

    Hi Akhil,

Thanks, will check when i update to iOS 8.0/02. I downgraded mainly for the 3G toggle & the page Scrolling within Settings &

Notes was very jerky. Of course a reset/restore would've fixed that.

Let's hope that 3rd party App, doesn't send personal data to Chinese servers

If something changes - do let us know.

    Thanks for responding quickly.

Of course Gevey/R SIM are phone hacks, which is just as bad if not worse than sending information to Chinese servers.

You can try installing the patch using something else. iTunes may also work. Other iPhone management software also should do the trick (like iFunbox, etc.).

Thanks - aware of that !

No one would need to use these hacks if Apple actually cared about the feedback for their devices. I have sent them countless feedbacks for Maps, this 3G problem, etc. All I always get is an automated reply.

And if you read the information when you leave feedback, it states clearly they will not respond directly to feedback, but they do read it. Not only are the hacks dangerous and expose your device to malware, some of them are illegal since they also hack the cellular carrier's network. If you check, the R-SIM is illegal in many countries.

I filed a bug with Apple regarding this. Bug # is 18402875. They closed this ticket after few days saying that it is a duplicate of 18404810 (which is still open btw). I cannot see the contents or details of 18404810 because of the way Apple deals with the bug reports.

    Thanks,

    Rajeev.

Scroll up - Leave Feedback for Apple & write an email to your Carrier - get a Support ticket - call them every 15 days.

    Feedback - https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Also call Apple Care in India on 1800 & let them know your problem.

Apple needs to fix this in the next 8.1 update - they probably will - but Feedback is important.

Guys, as of now, it isn't fixed in the beta that the developers have yet. My friend is an iOS developer (who uses an Airtel and a Vodafone connection, in an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 5 respectively) and his problem has NOT been fixed by the 8.1 BETA. This is after trying an 'Update' and a 'Restore', with and without restoring user backup data. I really hope they do fix this. I honestly don't think they read feedback, I mean, who would, right?

Please don't get your hopes up.

Did you see the other discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6546123 ? Some have got it, while some haven't.

Another thing to probably consider, that though an iPhone may have the same model no.(Axxxx) it's part no.(M../x) is different

depending on which market it was released for, there is an overlap there. If you visit the LTE capable section on Apple's web site,

    you'll understand. I remain confused

I have the A1530 model that they were selling in India at launch. I have no idea what they may be selling now. My friend has the same iPhone 5s and his iPhone 5 model is A1429 (Most probably). No luck!

    Follow this guide : http://softwarelint.com/ios/2g-data-on-ios-8-0-2

Just Curious - will this work with Airtel India ? because right since iOS 7 on iPhone 5c & 5s Airtel removed the toggle as they were planning to launch 4G/LTE. That rollout never happened, so Airtel users got stuck with only an Option to turn Cellular Data ON/OFF and only a option to turn ON/OFF LTE.

Airtel claims they use a different technology that automatically chooses Edge/3G smartly on it's own. Bizarre and unfortunate
