Q: iPhone 6 bluetooth not working correctly with Nissan

My wife and I each have a Nissan Pathfinder (mine a 2014, hers a 2013).  We have always had out iPhones pairs to them, but the iPhone 6 is not working correctly.  The phones pair, but there is no audio (in or out) during phone calls, the screen in the car does not show a call was initiated when dialing out, and the Answer and Disconnect buttons on the steering wheel are not working.  We have restarted both phones, restarted the car, deleted the pairing and re-paired.  Nothing works.  Is anyone else having this problem?  This is a HUGE problem and it needs to be fixed ASAP (I am hoping through a phone firmware upgrade).

I also noticed that my Jabra headset I use at my desk (although it works for calls), loses the functionality of the single answer/disconnect button. I am assuming this is the same issue to either the bluetooth radio hardware to firmware.  I have only seen one page on the net talking about this to date.  Any hep is GREATLY appreciated.  Thanks.

I was able to connect in my cars but no audio with my iphone 6 with 8.0.2.  The connection signal bars showed no strength on the car's screens even though the phone had 4 or 5 bars.  I tried all of the different resets with reset network under settings, deleting bluetooth for the car, and reconnecting.  Nothing worked in my Range Rover or in my Rolls Wraith (which has BMW sourced entertainment system) until I signed out my icloud account and re-deleted the bluetooth and reconnected.  Now it seems to be working.  I hope Apple is listening and comes up with a fix....

First, judging from the wide range of autos (not all one manufacturer, make or model) I'm going to say it's an Apple issue since that's the common denominator.

Two, nothing I've done has given me complete functionality.  The problem, at least for me, is strangely intermittent and produces odd results.  For example, I'm able to communicate with Siri through my speakers and ask her to dial a call but then the sound goes dead.  Call is live (I can change it to my handset or headset) but not through the car.  Also, sometimes on the car I'll get message like "contacts downloading" when I go to look at connected phones.  This is strange behavior.

Finally, and I have not seen anyone else note this, when I initially pair, my phone reports back the pairing was "unsuccessful."  Then it shows "connected" in my phone screen.  Again, some functionality is there and I have, on some occasions, gotten the calling to work.  But I've not been able to initiate or pick up a call from the steering wheel.

I have a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder, a 128GB iPhone 6, 8.0.2 software.  All was fine with my 8.0 iPhone 5.  I think it was working ok with my 6 and 8.0 but I honestly don't remember.  Was too in love to notice those details.  But now the honeymoon is over!

Well, I'm happy to report that my iPhone is able to connect to my vehicle with zero problems.  I made a test call earlier and was able to hear and be heard by the recipient. Everything seems to be fine and I'll keep my fingers crossed. After updating to 8.0.2 I removed "My Car" from my phone and removed my iPhone from the list of paired phones in my vehicle. Re-paired everything and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I'll post again if anything changes.

I faced the same problem with my Honda Pilot 2013 and removing the old iphone from the car memory solved the problem.

But yes it is a ridicules problem that apple should resolve. Any other phone or Bluetooth device should be able to pair without any issue.

    UPDATE:

I tried restoring network settings and re-pairing - that didn't work.

I deleted the pairing profiles from my car and 'forgot' the car bluetooth on my phone and then tried again - that didn't work.

I restored from my previous backup (iphone 5c) - that didn't work, although the car did start reporting my signal strength and battery level correctly which was at least some kind of progress.

I then deleted the profiles from my car, wiped my iphone and set it up as a new phone. Initially this made no difference but later in the day it just suddenly started working and has been fine ever since - still using v8.0.

I think that there are 2 issues going on in this thread...

If you can hear music, ringing, etc. through the speakers that would mean that the bluetooth is working. If you cannot make calls or the call drops, its not the iPhone anymore, its the car.

If you cannot pair at all, then there is something with the phone that is going on. There seems to be several work arounds here for that though.

Source: I am a Ford tech. I got this issue twice today and we got them to work after an update to the sync/MyFord touch systems.

I dont know what is going on with the people that are not able to keep it paired, but I am betting similar updates to the car would fix that as well. Just my guess on that though.

It is so not the car.

This issue was on CNN the other day.  It is too widespread to be cockpit error.  Note an issue with bluetooth this widespread has not ever been reported with their previous IOS or phone combinations.  All reports are recent.

My wife's iphone 5 running IOS7 is money, I can pair and use perfectly all day every day.

My iphone6 8.0 no workie.  I can pair, it works for a bit, then it gets confused and stops working.

There is no way that every car maker out there is all of a sudden having an issue and Apple is not the root cause.  Again if you got someone fixed, it might not persist.  If that user syncs with their PC or icloud etc, there is some setting that topples the house of cards.

It is truly frustrating to any that have tried to get some combination that works.  And any victory is short lived and just adds a log to the fire.

I have surrendered my attempts and can't use bluetooth handsfree in my car until they release an IOS update to fix this.

The speaker phone for the iphone6 isn't too bad.

I've noticed a lot of bugginess with ios8. Most solved, at least temporarily with a hard reset. My voice mails wouldn't play. The play arrow was grayed out. I've had an iPhone since the very first one and had never seen this. I did a hard reset, and it fixed it.

I have a Hyundai Sonata, and I plugged it into the iPod port, and I got a 'no media found'. On this radio, 'media' is iPhone music library, as well as services like Pandora. At the same time, I could make calls paired w/bluetooth. I've never seen 'no media found' before. Again, a hard reboot fixed it. It's happened more than once, and a reboot fixed it everytime.

I know this is a bit different than what I've seen written here. My point, is that it definitely has some bugs. I also don't think it's a hardware issue. While it's happening on my iPhone 6, I believe it happened on my 5 after I upgraded to iOS 8.

My story gets stranger.  While at the Nissan dealer today, I asked about the problem.  The service manager said there were no updates for the phone/bluetooth but that one of the service techs had an iPhone 6 and he'd try it out.

Well, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it.  We unpaired my phone and then we paired his phone.  It worked perfectly.  Calls could be initiated from the car, Siri worked, phone books worked, call history...you name it.

We re-paired my phone and no luck.  I could make a call from the phone but none of the functions I listed above worked.  And when I did initiate a call the display on the car showed "Call Waiting" and a phone number I had dialed two days ago.

The tech's phone is an iPhone 6, 16GB on T-Mobile.  Mine is 128GB on AT&T.  Both running 8.0.2.

I have a call scheduled with Apple tech support tomorrow.  Hopefully they won't blow me off again and tell me it's a Nissan problem like they did a few days ago.  Something is clearly wrong with either the phone, the bluetooth chipset or the software.

It's bit strange at all. My iPhone 6 worked in the beginning but a call dropped and the phone started acting like everyone else's. I made Apple swap it out and have not had a problem since. There is a glitch in the matrix my friend!
