Q: IOS 8 copy paste problem + slowdown

Upgraded my ipad2 to ios 8. General slowdown, apps crashing on startup, huge lag when typing or selecting email from inbox. I've also experienced a strange copy/paste issue In Safari, facebook and other apps. When I copy and try to paste, I often get an old item I copied instead of the last item. Yesterday I tried to paste a URL repeatedly and kept getting text I copied from notes earlier in the day. I gave up. Today when I tried to copy and paste a sentence from a website, the URL that wouldn't paste yesterday kept pasting! Anyone else experience these issues?

    So here you are again.

AND here you are again, talking to me ... :-) ..

I try to respond as much as possible. I may miss a few here and there, but I didn't miss yours ... :-) ...

Aren't there some other threads you could be of more help on?  Or could you spend your time more productively hunting us some advice somewhere that actually helps instead of just being a nuisance to us on here?

I'm on those threads and getting thanks from others, too. I simply don't know what thread will show up a user coming to me and thanking me. They come even on threads where someone else is "complaining" to me about one thing or another ... and all of a sudden, on that very same thread ... someone pops up and tells me "thank you".

I don't presume to know ahead of time who I will help or where that help will be found by someone else.

Unfortunately, the present OS is not operating correctly for many.  Those users would like to see the recurrent problems remedied.  That is not a lot to expect, especially when some of those problems are well known; have been around for a while, and appear to have sprung up with the introduction of iOS 8.

If you are still having problems with copy/paste go to page 4 of the link below and install the app Flaberguest's suggest.

yes, that's definitely what I've been looking for too, a way to hide/ignore that troll in this thread ... there doesn't seem unfortunately to be any tool for that on these forums. He's just spending his time advertising himself and being useless ... going as far as attempting to sell his iPad  ... not sure if that complies with the rules here ... but hey, he calls it methodology ... see screen shot here ... note that his email address is publicly available here, in case you'd be interested

Let me me tell you how that works.

There are are people who come here for whatever problems they have. Some are hardware issues, some are software issues ... part from apps, part from the iOS. Some are glitches, and some are solved by other users here. There will remain a very small minority who may not find issues answered here, but will at Apple Support. Of that small number, there may be some passed up to software engineers to be analyzed. For those they have found software problems in the iOS, they will be addressed and solved. Apple has already issued several fixes thus far.

NOW having pointed out that there are many sources for problems and not all are from Apple, one must also note that it is ENTIRELY PREDICTABLE that whenever there is a major update (computer or iOS) you WILL have further revisions issued until any further problems are eliminated. In fact, you can almost say that it is MANDATORY that this will happen ... or rather it is GUARANTEED it will happen ... and this is true for any device, for any company, and at any time ... without question.

In all this, however, you'll find the ones who do have problems are an extremely small segment, and that they WILL be addressed, just like Apple has addressed the previous ones in iOS 8.0.2 and iOS 8.1 ...

It doesn't matter whether you think so ... only that the overall users on this forum think they are receiving help from me. Your opinion of the matter is not relevant.

If you in any way care for other users on here, you will kindly go away! Come on, grow up! The last thing anyone wants is to receive regular email updates from this thread, only to find out they are pointless ramblings from you. PLEASE GO AWAY if you can't help!! The rest of us want to follow progress on this important issue.

The last time I recall an OS that didn't have reliable copy/paste it had no UI either, so copy/paste is VERY important to the user experience! So as it stands, iOS8 is a flawed OS if it can't reliably provide copy/paste, and requires the user to start managing memory usage manually.

For those that suggested the issue is memory related... As a developer myself, I can say that I completely agree! The link some have made with Safari is probably because Safari itself has become a memory-hungry monster and has become VERY inefficient - on iPad minis, even some of Apple's own web pages become completely unusable. This issue filters through to apps that make use of a UIWebView control - effectively a cut-down, embedded version of Safari that apps can use. Maybe this is why people are also mentioning Facebook as one such app that is experiencing problems. Apple released a alternative/replacement for the UIWebView in iOS8 (called a WKWebView) which does seem considerably more efficient (both in memory and CPU usage) but it has a whole new set of bugs which stops us developers from using this new control quite yet. Bottom line is that Apple seems to have completely tied up both users and developers with the issues in iOS8.

I find that people respond and reply to what they wish to reply and respond to ... and when they do that, it's an indication of what they're interested in talking about.

SO ... in that light ... I would suggest that you simply post on either (1) a described problem that you have, or (2) a provided solution you have which another user can implement.

IF ... however ... you wish to wax eloquently on Apple's policies or business practices or "give Apple your mind" or tell some conspiracy theory about what Apple is trying to do ... I am MORE THAN HAPPY  to weigh in on that ... :-) ...

now back to topic, there's absolutely no workaround to this copy/paste bug ... the bug is insane and potentially risky for all users. Don't know what Apple is waiting for ... again, an emergency patch is needed NOW. And yes I did report the issue via the feedback page ... and no I don't expect anyone here on the forums to be able to help on that particular bug because that's an OS bug that needs to be fixed ASAP with code by Apple engineers. This bug affects all areas of iOS, any app's affected, it's not just Safari ... and it's not just the iPad2 ... other devices are affected, the iPhone 5, the 5S, the 4S ...

There's been that bug with the home button triggering the app switcher with a single press (on non-touch ID devices), it took them more than a month to fix it ... and now a broken clipboard. I posted about the copy/paste issue already when iOS 8.0 was released ... this was almost 2 months ago !!!

Everyone experiencing this issue should be logging it as a bug here:

    https://bugreport.apple.com/

I have already done this, but I think everyone else should too. It's generally where us developers file bugs, so I'm not sure if users can post on there too.

My guess is that Apple respond to such bugs based on how many people they hear screaming about it. So here's your chance to let them know...

I think you're just an idiot right? purely and simply, a complete idiot. That's what my brain is telling you. As to the attempt to sell your iPad here on the forums, I posted a screen shot that proves it. Bye.

There was no screen shot of me selling an iPad. I can see why you're having problems here if that's what you see. Giving an example of getting rid of a good and working device, namely the iPad 4, was an illustration that one does not keep a machine too long so to get the best return out of it and to keep current without too much cost. Namely, you don't sell because you have a problem, you sell when you have no problems and you give the best benefits to the new buyer that way, while allowing you to move up to the better model.

I guess that was too much of a complex thought process to grasp ... :-) ...
