Q: iPhone 6 not connecting to car Bluetooth

So I got my iPhone 6 yesterday, and while all seems well, I can't get it to connect to my car's Bluetooth system.   My older 5S running iOS8 does fine, so I don't think is the OS... And, frankly, this is an after market bluetooth set up in my 2006 Murano, but all other phones can connect, just not the iPhone 6.

There is no manual for the car's system, but I've managed to get it to "search", and while the car does find my phone, there is no way to enter a code on the phone to get it to pair properly.  And the phone NEVER sees the BT module in the car to do the pairing.

Again, this is NOT a iOS 8 problem... but one with the new iPhone 6

My Mini Cooper is a 2013 model.

I have also paired today with a new Kia Rio no problems.

The sequence with the Min as i remember after resetting everything as outline before, was to delete the old paired iphone name from the Mini BT settings. Having done this and with the iPhone looking for a pairing, on the Mini a new name came on the screen called iPhone1 (I didn't set this I swear!) and then accepting this and applying a code it just sprang into life. Before a pairing was accepted with the old name but no sound went through the car system.

I also see reports that installing 8.02 does the trick too although for me I never ever want to touch an Apple OS update ever again! I have wasted three days of my life on OS and iPhone problems and that is enough!

My iPhone 6 will not connect correctly to the Bluetooth in my 2011 VW GTI.  My iPhone 5 was still working even with the new iOS, but getting mixture of issues with iPhone 6 hardware.  I can get past the pairing, and audio seems to work with music, but I cannot make or receive calls.  It causes random issues such as showing my phone with zero bars service on my dashboard screen when the phone actually has full reception or dropping a call and locking up the dashboard screen... I then have to manually change the audio output to handset on the phone.  I have tried un-pairing and forgetting the car on the phone and deleting the phone from the car, resetting network settings, etc. all with no luck.  This puts a major damper on my 2 hour daily commute where I rely on the ability to make and receive phone calls, both personal and work related.  If I would have had any indication basic Bluetooth functionality such as taking calls would not work with my car I would have never considered purchasing an iPhone 6.  If this issue is not resolved, as implied by the Apple Care specialist I spoke to, I will be abandoning iPhone and Apple after many years of loyal patronage.  The Apple Care specialist essentially informed my that my car is older (its a 2011 people!) and the iPhone 6 has newer technology and that not all features will be compatible.  I would possible understand this if we were talking about bells and whistles, but this is basic functionality that I consider to be a deal breaker with the device.

    Success at last!

2014 Audi A3 paired with iPhone 6/8.02 this morning but calls failed after two rings, as per before. Cue despair. Decided however to try one last time.

    -Deleted device from car.

    -Switched off car ignition.

    -Deleted network settings on iP6.

    -Hard reset iP6.

-Switched on car ignition , set car Bluetooth searching.

-switched on iP6, gave iP6 new name in settings/ about.

    - Accepted car request to pair with iP6

    - told iP6 to pair with car.

MIraculously, it worked and has continued all day despite iP6 Bluetooth being switched off on iP6 when not required. Audi detecting iP6 and calls working ok.

Fingers tightly crossed that this lasts but all the signs are good.

Well, we both have the same '13 Mini Cooper.  Up to a few minutes ago, I thought the name of my iPhone 6 was Starflyer.  Maybe that went bye-bye when I reset "all setting".  Anyway, I discovered the new name is iPhone.  That might explain why your name is now iPhone1.  Do you still have another IP?

I've repeated tried your procedures AND Red2's above with no success.  Strangely, my iPhone in the pairing path does show my Mini, but just won't pair with it. I'm giving up for now as I've wasted a couple of hours on this without any movement to success.

Re 8.02, you will have to decide that.  I did download it on both my iPhone and iPad with no apparent problems and I doubt that is what is causing my pairing problem as I'm getting exactly the same response with 8.02 that I had with 8.00.

And like you, I've paired the phone with another vehicle is seconds.  Also, strangely enough, I've tried to pair my wife's old IP5 S with the Mini, also without success. Her phone still has iOS 7.   My old IP5 S was paired with the Mini for the entire last "Apple" year (Sep-Sep).

Although it probably won't make a difference, I'm giving some thought to either finding the fuse that powers the Bluetooth in the Mini or disconnecting the battery.

    Thanks for the responses.

It came up in your mini as iPhone1 because you did a reset all settings on your phone. That's the default name in general and then about. Trust me I've done this about 14 times and nothing is working.

Bluetooth connectivity issues with 2008 Infinity G35. My iPhone 6 will pair with my car but I have no voice or dialtone audio while placing or receiving calls. I've attempted re-pairing, renaming and restoring my phone with no success. In a related issue, my Klipsch Image One Bluetooth headphones also have pairing problems.

HAving got the Audi A3 to work, I then decided to experiment wth my wife's 2012 Audi A1 Which was happily pairing with an iP5/8.02 or an iP5s//8.02.

i I used the same procedure as on the A3( see below) and , annoyingly, it at first wouldn't work. Would ring a couple of times, show network error on the Audi display and then lose the handsfree, the phone continuing to ring. I'm ow the Audi has the latest available software as it was serviced at an Audi dealer last week.

I persisted with the same procedure, even adding in locking and unlocking the car And shutting the iP6 down after erasing network settings reboot just in case that helped totally shutting down the car's bluetooth ( you can tell II'm no expert) but the next attempt also failed.

Third attempt (exactly the same procedure) , however, worked with pairing enabled and operating without interruption. I have since tested it by shutting down and restarting bluetooth on the iP6 and on the Audi together and individually over a number of hours and it has successfully auto paired with uninterrupted calls.

Name showing up for the phone is irrelevant, my iP6 shows "iPhone" after I reset network settings and the above worked ok on that and still works after I changed the phone's name back to my own name in the 'general/About' setting.

Clear however that despite my eventual success with the Audis, there still is a serious underlying issue for the majority that Apple must fix quickly. It shouldn't take days of trying for any chance of getting one of the iPhone's most important functions to work And one that is essential to be legal if making calls on the move  in most parts of the world.

2014 Audi A3 procedure (A1 additions in bold)

    -Deleted device from car.

    -Switched off car ignition.

    -locked car

    -Deleted network settings on iP6.

    -Hard reset iP6.

    - Waited for iP6 to boot up to home screen, switched off iP6 by power off.

    -unlocked car

-Switched on car ignition , switched on Audi MMI, selected telephone and set car Bluetooth searching.

-switched on iP6,gave iP6 new name in settings/ about.( new name not critical, works with generic 'iPhone ' name.)

    - Accepted car request to pair with iP6

    - told iP6 to pair with car.

Had to repeat the above three times to get the A1 paired.

Okay, it seems to be working now in my Lexus 450 H2010.

I believe all the Toyota vehicles use the same multimedia system.

    install 8.0.2 on the iPhone 6 .

erase all the settings pairing the phone to the car i.e. audio Bluetooth system and telephone Bluetooth settings so the car is not connected to any Phone.

first pair audio Bluetooth system in the car with the phone .

than pair the Telephone Bluetooth from the car to the phone.

    Hope it helps.

    Dear Eng_faisal,

the way I did it exactly is :

    reset network setting on iphone6

Delete iphone from the car in two different menues.

1st menu is the Audio-BT setting

2nd menu is Telephone/ BT remove phones.

than I turned off the car, turned it back on.

paire with the audio blue tooth first, than paired with the (Lexus) telephone menu .

it did ask me 'another bluetooth device is connected, shall i disconnect? ' when trying to pair as a phone.

I Selected yes and it connected to the the phone.

    dont give up !
