Q: iPhone 6 not connecting to car Bluetooth

So I got my iPhone 6 yesterday, and while all seems well, I can't get it to connect to my car's Bluetooth system.   My older 5S running iOS8 does fine, so I don't think is the OS... And, frankly, this is an after market bluetooth set up in my 2006 Murano, but all other phones can connect, just not the iPhone 6.

There is no manual for the car's system, but I've managed to get it to "search", and while the car does find my phone, there is no way to enter a code on the phone to get it to pair properly.  And the phone NEVER sees the BT module in the car to do the pairing.

Again, this is NOT a iOS 8 problem... but one with the new iPhone 6

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Pro-Tools 11 HDX

I am having the same issue. Actually, my iphone 6 will not connect to most bluetooth devices but it is my car that irrates me the most. I have loved all my Apple devices but this one stinks. If I could, I would return my phone and keep my old Iphone. I never had an issue with it.  (I drive a 2011 Ford Taurus.)

I'm having issues as well but thought it was just me.  I had issues when I first got our truck and finally had a friend set it up for me.  I now have a iPhone 6+ and my friend has moved...so.  I went out to try it again myself.  I have no issues connecting.  I can set up the phone no issues.  I can set up the BT audio no issues.  Only problem I can't have both.  I can either use my phone as a phone, or as a music device.   I go to set up the phone and it removes/disconnects the music.  I go to set up the music and it disconnects/removes the phone.  I played this game for about two hours and am now fed up.   I swear I had this issue before and my friend figured it out for me.  The instructions for the 2012 Toyota Tacoma are less than to be desired.   I consider myself pretty computer savvy but this has got me stumpped.   I'll probably resort to just setting up the phone and connecting the phone with a cord.

We had heard all these nightmares and decided not to upgrade the 5S or buy the new 6+ until they were worked out.  We had an Apple  rep working with us, actually coming out to our car (2014 Acura MDX)  on his break with an upgraded 5S and a 6+ and he tried everything thing mentioned in the community forums, no luck.  Finally he called us to say there was a rumor that a major fix was ready to be released (around Thanksgiving).  Still no help.   We upgraded two iPads and are so sorry because of the problems.   I just read that there is an Apple iPhone 8 coming up in the summer!  They can't even get the 6 to work!  I really do not believe it is a car problem at all, it is the Apple products.  We've talked to Acura and they say they have no problems with any other products, Androids, Googles, etc.  Just the new iPhones.   So we keep our old 5S with no upgrade that has all the functions working.

Not sure where you heard an iPhone 8 is coming out, since no such product has been announced from Apple, and it would be odd for them to totally skip over the '7' (also not yet announced).

Let me ask you this; if it's a problem with the iPhone 6 and/or the iOS, then why does my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.2 have no issue with any of my Bluetooth devices at home or in any of my cars?

Basic logical troubleshooting states that if a device works with multiple systems, but does not work with on other system, then all other things being equal, the fault lies in the specific system that doesn't work.

    Consider it like this;

I send an email to Andrew.  He receives it and replies, and I receive the reply.

I send an email to Brad.  He receives it and replies, and I receive the reply.

I send an email to Charles.  He receives it and replies, and I receive the reply.

I send an email to David.  He receives it and replies, and I receive the reply.

I send an email to Edward.  He does not receive it.

Who's email account is the most likely one to be at fault; mine or Edward's?

Hi I have an iphone 6 it has many problems. It occasionally freezes but the most annoying of the problems is with the Bluetooth when using my handsfree in my Mitsubishi Lancer 2011. Like many other posts I can receive a call but when I make a call it will not connect to make a call handsfree it slips from handfree mode in Apple OS to iphone. It is seriously a massive problem and extremely dangerous. My iphone 5 worked like a dream. I'm yet to try my iphone 5 with the new OS 8.1.2 in the car. I am wondering if newer car bluetooth handsfree systems have been upgraded and the new phone is designed to suit newer systems? I notice that 119,000 people have viewed this support problem so the 213 people who have replied are just a fraction of the people that have had or are still having Bluetooth issue. I'm going to Apple tomorrow and want an answer.

Have you contacted Mitsubishi to see if there is an update for your car system?

I also had this problem. I updated my iPhone 4 to a 6 and transferred all my data via iTunes. To solve this I went to settings then general then reset at the bottom of the list. Chose reset network settings and run it.  Once done go to you car switch the car kiit on and in Bluetooth forget this device. Turn Bluetooth off and then on again. Pair the iPhone 6 again And it should now work ok even after you have turned off the car power. You will need to restore wifi codes etc for router if you have one.

I'm curious... did you ever get this figured out? You got me thinking when you mention an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter. I'm on my second GROM Audio Bluetooth adapter (2nd car I've used one in). They have a limit of 2 paired devices. I believe you mentioned the unit was in the vehicle when you purchased it, so that could be where your issue lies. The previously paired phone(s) was/were probably not removed from the unit.

If you do have a GROM unit, the pairing has to be performed immediately after the unit boots (a window of only several seconds). Have your iPhone in discovery mode when you start the system (car). You should see "GROM CAR" pop up. Select it, and the pairing should go through (provided there is at least 1 opened spot available on the unit for pairing).

If you do have a GROM and need instructions for clearing the stored phone list, I can assist you.

    Hi.

I was with the same issue with my new iPhone 6.

    i I have a Ford Escape.

What I did was to follow the instruction provided by Ford: my car came with a supplemental guide manual

to sync your phone bluetooth with your car Bluetooth.

    General steps:

    1. Turn on your car and your car radio. Your car need to be in park.

    2. Make sure that your iPhone Bluetooth is on by going to setting and turning the Bluetooth on.

    3. Using the car radio controls, press the phone icon or enter the phone menu.

    4. Scroll repeatedly until system setting appears in the radio display.

    5. Press ok ( the ok button is on you radio ) to confirm and enter the system setting menu.

    6. Scroll repeatedly using the arrow until the DEVICE appears in the radio display.

    7. Scroll until ADD DEVICE appears in the display. Press ok.

    8.  follow instructions

    9. When FIND SYNC appears in the display, press ok. A 6 digit pin will appear in the radio display.

    10. Open your phone setting and go to Bluetooth and enter the pin # using your phone keypad.

    11. The system will start to connect and when finish you will see in your car radio display that your phone is connected.

On my VW (Sharan) I got it to work as follows.

    1. Deleted all all the old profiles from the car (a bit if a hassle as for some reason you have to connect a phone before the option to delete profiles appears - used a previously paired older phone)
    2. Reset the network settings on my iPhone
    3. Switched the ignition off completely - remove the key!
    4. Insert key and start car - you now have 3 minutes to complete the pairing.
    5. In bluetooth settings the car is now visible. Touching it prompts for a password. '0000' is default.

    Good to go.

Ok.. Not sure if this will work for Bluetooth, but Apple did something a bit sneaky with IOS8.

Ever heard of CarPlay? Yeah. They enabled this feature on the new OS.

To shut it off, go to General > Restrictions > CarPlay. Disable it.

    Then, reset your network settings.

It worked for my Nissan Rogue iPod hookup. Give it a shot. It is an interim fix at best until they fix it on their end. Good luck.

I don't know why you'd say Car Play is "sneaky??"  It's a new feature, which for cars equipped with this new option, enables many of your phones features to work seamlessly in an equipped car.  Nothing sneaky about it.  And it you had read the iOS 8 User Guide it is detailed there.

Ok. Maybe "sneaky" is the wrong word to use... Idiotic? Foolish? That may be better fitting...

Understand, that CarPlay messes with the standard car stereo systems out there and they should have kept it DISABLED once installed.

Call it what you will. I fixed my problem due to their negligence. I miss Steve Jobs.

Your post is simply misinformed and quite ridiculous.  The new Car Play feature is neither idiotic or foolish.  It's simply new and more car companies will most assuredly include it in their automobiles.  You may even purchase a car with the system someday.

To also state Car Play messes with car systems out there is also false.  It's turned on in my settings and yet all Bluetooth features work just fine in my car.  And again, all you had to do was read the user guide to know this feature is available.  But I guess that's asking too much of anyone to actually read about the features available in a nearly $800 device.

And finally, I'm simply sick of people channeling Steve Jobs.  Yes, he was a brilliant man, who brought Apple back from near extinction, but he was no more a saint, or less prone to misses than Tim Cook.  You must not remember Antenna Gate (You're Holding it Wrong) or Proximity Sensor Gate, or even Apple Maps all under Steve's leadership.

It's a simple fact that my fix worked for me.

You can "Apple fan" your comments till the cows come home. Understand, that I just don't care. I did Apple's job for them. If you say that I am wrong, I would laugh wholeheartedly. Please ignore this forum post and just walk away. You bore me...
