iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Hey guys, I wonder if any of you are having the same issues as me. Sorry if I'm double posting; this might have come up in one of the earlier posts in this thread, but there are just too many posts and I haven't been following or read through all of them.


I'm having this Wi-Fi issue as well, but mine is a little more peculiar...


I have my MacBook Pro, my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 6 all in the same place right now. However, only my MacBook and my iPad are connected to a Wi-Fi network, and with full strength too. However, my iPhone can't detect even a single Wi-Fi network in the area, even after trying all the remedies and solutions, short of resetting the entire phone.


Both my iPad and iPhone are on the same iOS version, 8.4.


Ideas, anyone? :/

I have tried 8.4. Whilst 8.3 cured my drop-out problem (I know it didn't fix it for everyone) 8.4 is still stable. I have also noticed that when I'm out my phone connects much quicker to the public wi-fi networks, before I often had to search.


Maybe it is because of 8.4, maybe not. At least it hasn't created any new problems for me

As I recall you were adamant that there was no problem with IOS8, yet when IOS8.3 was launched one of the features was to fix a wi-fi connection issue


But obviously you know more than Apple

I have the wi-fi issue (only on my home network, its fine at work) I updated to 8.4 yesterday at work and took it home. Still having the same issues. I found my issue seems to be related to signal strength (maybe interference?) as when I stand right over my router it connects and is usable. As soon as I walk about 10 feet away. I lose signal strength and have trouble with things fully downloading. It will then just lose the signal altogether and if I open up to choose a network it shows mine and if I select it, I get asked for my password. Which I enter and it says its incorrect. My wife who also has an iphone 5 which we bought at the same time does not have the issue. Mine started after updating to 8.3, she has not updated yet. Other devices work fine at home as well. And again I only have the issue at home.


Tried all the fixes from resetting phone settings and factory reset, to doing the same with my router and modem. Still have not found a solution that actually solves the issue. And I also have not gone to the Apple store as I don't feel I should have to for what is clearly a software issue. Just have to wait and hope ios9 has a fix now. Luckily my cellular data works fine at my home and I have enough data that I don't go over.
