Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Has there really been no more comments since 26/11 ???? There is a link saying "branched to new discussion" but when I click I get "Access to this place or content is restricted. If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here."

I can assure you that this issue persists. My entire wifi network doesn't work if any iOS device with iOS 8.1.1 is connected, no device  can connect to the network. Once they're all switched off, wifi seems to be fine.  There's definitely an issue with iOS 8.1.1 but still waiting for Apple to hold their hands up to this one.

Ever since I got the iOS 8.1.1 upgrade, my iPad mini is practically useless.  I converted to Apple several years ago because it was much more user-friendly than MS products.  However, I may have to reconsider now.  Each "upgrade" seems to mess up more things than it improves, and I'm getting pretty sick and tired of it.

THe silence had me thinking that maybe Apple had fixed it and I'd missed the update :-)

SEnt from my iPhone (but using 3G as Apple broke the Wi-Fi)

"branched to new discussion" is a message shown when apple moves a post to a hidden thread. Most of the time you are not allowed to read the thread.  It's how the apple hosts delete a post that doesn't meet the TOS.  Not all removed post result in this message but some do.

There are almost as many issues with the forum software as there are with ios 8.x.

The Wifi issue is still there and Apple seems to be just doing nothing at all. Apple's customer care and customer satisfaction equals zero in this case. I would like to see what would happen if Samsung were to  run a campaing to receive these useless Apple machines in exchange for  Samnsungs that really works.

Your routers have a bad setting but it didn't cause any issue up to present.

iOS8 have a very specific needing.

    maybe location settings are prime.

That's why the solution I posted here fixed my issue.

You all need a bit of humbleness.

Go to router's settings and work on it, or you need an updated router for actual idevices OS requirements.

There should be no reason to change router settings that work for all non IOS 8 devices.  If Apple is going to make a product that does not connect to routers on default settings, they will lose 80% of their market.  Most people are barely able to configure something other than the default password on their routers, let alone adjust settings randomly until the wifi starts working for one of 20 devices in the house.  If TVs, Blu Rays, Android Phones, Android Tables, IOS 7 iPads, IOS 7 iPods, wifi thermostat, Surface Tablet, and Laptops all connect without any issues - the issue is NOT the router settings.

Take a chance to technical discussion here, we're not marketing professionals.

As I described in this topic, I made a singular change on router setting, everyone's router have this configuration.

BUT any mistake on it can produce a big problem related to SIGNAL BAND that depends on other router details like firmware.

Each router has a behaviour in terms of interferences from other equipments.

My routers: (TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 and TL-WR2543ND ) had a good response to the solution people find.

    Tell us your equipment model.

I wish I could say the problem with the new iOS and iPad air was limited to Wi-Fi connection problems however it's been much much more than that even while off-line the thing is very leggy and glitchy. Side-by-side with my four-year-old iPad 2 it's ridiculous how nonresponsive the iPad air is with the suppose it faster processor and new chipset. Words cannot express how really disappointed I am in Apple's new rollout of both of these products

I have a Ford Focus, I can't drive at any road like a Land Rover. Both are "cars".

My iPhone can't detect all wi-fi SSID as those cheap phones can do.

Certainly Apple products need a refined ecosystem as my car need roads, it can't go all terrain.

Hahaha!!! :-) I have a Mitsubishi Montero and a Toyota Scion And while they both are completely different animals when you put them in Drive they for fill their intended purpose they go smoothly in the direction you pointed very much unlike these new Apple devices and iOS eight, for me it's the predictability issue it drives me nuts when you're used to operating a predictable machine or software and then you spend $800 on a new one and now absolutely nothing is predictable it's glitchy and unreliable and makes productivity obsolete

To use your car analogy: if you have a Focus and a Land Rover, you expect both of them to drive on roads that meet a minimum and common specification. If you were to get a Land Rover and then could only drive on the roads with the newest asphalt/concrete/synthetic blend, and not on the current specification of highway, you would be upset.  Meanwhile, my Ford Focus can drive on all the roads.

802.11n and 802.11g are standards for a reason.  Any device that supports them needs to support the standard, not some specific "refined ecosystem".  The same standards that all other devices adhere to.
