Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Wanted to give a quick update on my situation (dropping wifi and incorrect time). I was able to get a 6 through my carrier. As I've only had it up and running for 4-5 hours now, so far so good with wifi. It's been constant and hasn't dropped at all, also seems to be back to normal speed. Current software is the dreaded 8.1.2. REALLY doing some serious hoping that the wifi issues do not return. I still agree that if Apple cannot come up with a fix for whatever is causing the wifi issues, they need to at least let us roll back to previous software that we know didn't give us issues. So far, I'm liking the 6 a lot, but I will be VERY cautious from this point on about immediately updating software as soon as it's available.

Just so you know I had A iPhone 6 hi havehave had this problem since day one about the iPhone 6this is not down to the hardware is down to the software I have the same problem on my iPad Air

Getting a new device will not solve the problem it would be a waste of money

....but she may have solved her particular problem with a particular approach (hardware/software replacement) and she learned a valuable lesson about early adoption.  Hats off.  My 6+ has never had a problem at work or at home on wi-fi. Why no mention about your warranty status?

If your referring to the warranty on the phone I was having issues with (if not I apologize) these issues occurred just a several months after the warranty on my old phone ran out. Go figure!

Same problem here over the past month or so. Wifi keeps dropping on home and work networks.

Oh how I wish I had done more research before updating my 5s and my iPad mini.

My son has a 5c and a mini too, and he, being young, updated his stuff as soon as the new IOS came out. I thought I would wait, having been bitten in the past....my 3G ended up as more or less a brick in the end.

Anyway, last weekend, I asked my son if he had had any problems, and he replied 'No, all good' so I thought I would take the plunge and update.

    Oh what a mistake.

My wi-fi drops out intermitently, if I turn on the phone and have the passcode active the wifi doesn't even register, texts, calls or even whatsapp from contacts appear as from a number rather than the contact, and when the wifi is actually working, apps 'stall' and then start again. My ipad mini has similar wifi issues, and another annoyance is where you can close an app by putting 4 fingers and your thumb on the screen, 'pinching' them and the app closes. Well, it did on IOS7, not so much now.

A visit to the apple store yesterday resulted in the advice "restore your devices to factory settings". Great, so on my phone I lose all my data, memos, notes and everything, all because of a dodgy update. Not really an option.

The iPad has less on it, so I tried it, and nope, just the same.

This is clearly a software issue. I want to revert back to IOS7 on both devices where I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM (you get that, Apple?). At least let us revert back until this substandard IOS8 is put right.

As for Yosemite, on the strength of the IOS8 farce, that is going nowhere near my iMac. I sent over £1500 on that bit of kit, and I don't want Apple filling that with bugs too. I bitterly regret updating the iPhone and iPad. Never again!

My iPad I can live with, it isn't ideal as it did work fine and I am not happy, but it isn't the end of the world. The phone on the other hand, now that was something I cherished, something I use for work and something I was proud of. I am now fast coming to resent it out of frustration.

Apple - for the sake of customer service and more importantly, customer satisfaction, PLEASE let us revert to IOS7!

No that was in response to tdksouth who has an iPhone 6 (released in September) but didn't mention anything about 1) what he might have attempted by leveraging his 1 year Apple Warranty - the first card I'd play if I thought there was something wrong and 2) wether the iPhone and iPad mentioned were using the same Wi-fi at home or wether performance on Wi-Fi varies elsewhere (key information many here seem to omit)...

So it's happened to me, too. i lost a wifi connection on my iPad air 2 that is less than a month old. I'm so disappointed. It's not the first time that I'm having serious issues with Apple products. I tried all the above fixes and nothing worked. My iPad sometimes sees nearby wifi networks and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes sees only some of them. but it's never able to connect to any of them. other devices work (including my iPhone 6 and iMac) so it's not a router's fault.

... "I'm so disappointed...."  "...it's not the first time that I'm having serious issues with Apple products"....  .....right

TROLL - You tried 106 pages of suggested fixes without even thinking about invoking your warranty!?  THIS is why jerking chains like yours on this thread has become a pastime...

Murray, why would "invoking your warranty" fix the issues associated associated with a manufacturer's standardised operating system?

Does "invoking your warranty" give you access to IOS 7.1.2 or 8.3 (the mythical one with all the wifi bugs fixed)?

@Bootsox - if you've purchased a brand new iPhone, that is clearly marked to perform to an 'x, y, z' standard, i.e. you've purchased said device based on the advertised performance of said product - and it doesn't do that when you take it out of the box, then that's a warranty claim (repair or refund). Not sure how consumer law works in your country mate, but in Australia, that's how it works.

Also, fun fact for fellow Aussies - you're warranty can extend far beyond the "manufacturers warranty" period. Australian Consumer Law has provisions to protect consumers - regardless of what a manufacturer warranty states. So, even if you're device is out of the 12 months warranty from the date of purchase, you may still be covered by Australian Consumer Law. This is why you should not (my opinion) purchase extended warranty - because you already have that right covered as an Australian consumer. But don't take my word for it - look it up for yourself.

Fun fact number 2 - Apple has already been taken to task for "warranty" issues in several countries. Google it.

How could invoking the warranty solve a software issue?  My iPhone was replaced for free early on but obviously it did not work. Replacing devices due to software problems just shows that Apple does not have a clue!  Perhaps the TROLL is you!!!

...So you'd just keep that new Mercedes or BMW if it had wi-if problems before or soon after driving it off the lot right?  ...  by God, you'd just sit home and lament on the manufacturer's board somewhere about how much Mercedes or BMW's suck!  Anything but invoke that danged warranty!

Why don't you ask americangirl_chelsea?  My phone works wifi fine (as do multitudes of others) and that's a fact Pal like it or not.  Get off your duff and replace your lemon device if it's under warranty- if not - jump ship or do what ya have to do! Jeez... Whiners...

@mmurray47 As much as usually I hate to respond to failed Trolls, we can all read multiple times now, you obviously have no problem with your iPhone, well that's great for you, woohoo! Three cheers and all that.

I do wonder why on earth when you have no issues with your iPhone to begin with you then decided to go trawling the web for threads where people do, just to take part in and let them all know you don't, I really have no idea on why you'd do that, very odd indeed, but then the world is full of quite odd people who get their kicks in strange ways.

Fact is we all get that now your iPhone is fine, yes that's right, WE KNOW YOUR iPHONE'S FINE, you've repeated it so many times now, just to confirm once more for you so your in no doubt at all, WE GOT IT, YOUR iPHONE IS FINE.

All you seem to do is jump in a forum thread, like a wasp on a picnic lunch, which obviously you have nothing of any worth or interest to contribute too, so why don't you go find something else to amuse yourself with, as I'm sure I'm not alone here in quite frankly being really bored with your pointless posts, either quoting incorrect facts you just made up, or just generally trying to be a smart Alec and failing dismally.

Fact is regardless of your pointless posts about your faultless iPhone, many of us here DO have issues with ours and this thread is somewhere for us to post and share our issues, and seeing as we get no answers from Apple at least we can get a tiny amount of comfort in realising we aren't alone and others have the same problem, also we have somewhere to share moans, thoughts or helpful suggestions on work arounds maybe.

As I said your repeat posts and replies telling us how you don't have any problems are a waste of time and frankly of no use or interest, so please feel free to jog on and find another thread of people to assist, maybe there's a thread on "No iPhone issues at all", you'll be an asset there.

Obviously you have either too much time on your hands as everything's working fine and dandy your end, or are generally just an individual who gets kicks trying to get attention, adding pointless posts to forum threads in the hope you'll impress someone, and failing dismally.
