Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

    Ahhh...

Whining from someone that has zero record of assisting others.

Oh yes, whining from another poster with a zero reputation.

As has been made abudabtly clear - the vast majority of users have little to no tech experience, given that, it's stands to reason that most users on here wouldn't give advice, as they're here to receive it. So casting aspersions based on a user reputation in a support thread - really is a low blow. For a smart guy, your intelligence is questionable.

You've made you point clear, as I have and others - go get a refund if you can.

For the rest, they either cannot, or do not want to like me, we do not want a refund, we want our purchases to work, therefore, we'll try and find solutions in this 'support' thread. Philly - all due respect - jump off mate. Thats enough.

Your response really does reflect a certain degree of ignorance (which most can forgive) but the stubbornness makes me feel as though I'm really wasting my time with someone on Samsung's payroll.  My response was about 4 posts back was two pronged - the 2d of which you didn't even bother to respond to (I.e. "Tsheley's process".  Did I miss something about your Airport Express?  What remedial steps did you take with the Airport express?  The fact that you would even whine further about rolling back to an old iOS at this point (knowibg you cant) was enough to abandon the idea of assisting you further.

You have old gear my friend.  Tech moves forwards - not backwards.

"turns out that it's not my phone"

thanks for making that reality something others here need to  consider...

what are we missing about your country and a warranty replacement - not a refund?

Apple will not block any individual that has a demonstrated reputation for assisting others.  You knew that, didn't you?

Not sure why Philly is trolling this time full time. But here is my .02

I got iPhone 6 Plus on Jan 1st and my Airplay music to receiver would keep dropping intermittently. So when I'm playing a song to Pioneer SC 68 music would stop for 10 secs or so intermittently.

Whereas my wife's iPhone 5s and iPad Air had no issues whatsoever. I had Linksys E3000 dual band router runnng DD WRT with receiver connected directly to Router as well as Apple TV.

When I try to find Devices in Airplay it takes from few seconds to forever on iPhone 6. Again 5s and iPad can find the devices fine.

I updated firmware on SC 68 and checked my cabling to be sure. Updated Linksys router settings as recommended by Apple. Still Phone 6 would drop songs randomly. I also noticed while browsing internet will just drop.WiFi will show connected but wouldn't have any data transmission.

I reset network settings in 6 plus and still same issue random Wifi drops.

I did factory reset and setup as new iPhone same issue. Now I decided to upgrade router and bought Netgeat NightHawk R7000 which supports AC1900.

Same set of issues. Intermittent WiFi drops. Just to re-iterate 5s and iPad air works fine.

I opened support ticket with Apple and couple of tech looked at the logs and suggested to swap out the device at Apple Store.  I got brand new device from Apple store and guess what Problem still persists. I've done everything possible and spend money on upgrading router.

It has to be iOS 8 issue or with the chipset apple is using.

Then take it back again and complain to Apple instead of trolling the forum.

    Hi sunlightpal,

Regarding philly, he has a fixed agenda and is obsessed about it, he either has not read the article or is incapable of understanding the contents. So he will continue to troll here and berate any user that posts about the problem. Just ignore his comments, they offer no help, just diatribes.

I suggest if you're not already working for Apple to put in an application!

No, I'm not whining about a problem while ignoring the realities of the problem.

Everyone knows you are right of course. Philly is blind to himself. He told re913 that he "has a demonstrated reputation for assisting others" but who is he kidding? Does anyone take him seriously anymore? Maybe his pal murray, LOL... Out of curiosity I went back to page 111 when he jumped on this thread and read his posts. All he has done is berate and criticize people. Has anyone solved their Wi-Fi problems based on advice from him? The answer is no of course.

And the "zero" posts back showing his complete lack of knowledge regarding the operation of the forum.
