Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Same issue for me. Running iOS 8 on my iPhone 6.

My phone can't find my wifi at all, even if i sit next to it. I reset my network settings a few times to try to resolve the issue.

Also my LTE has been super slow since Friday, thought it was just the area i was in. I've been to three different cities since getting my phone Friday morning, still having LTE speed issues.

Same situation on my 5s.  Whilst poking around I went to Privacy / Location Services / System Services & disabled WiFi Networking.  That was about 3 hours ago & I've not seen that stupid spinning wheel yet.  This would be the the longest I've gone without resetting Network Settings since updating.

Thanks MissGem, have been having the same wifi problems as all these other posts on my iPhone 5s and iPad, doing as you suggested above and turning off Location Service for wifi networking does seem to have improved it a lot and I have a much better connection now. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hope Apple give us a proper fix soon.

I'm still having this problem with 5GHz wifi networks on my ipad mini retina. It is completely unusable. It worked fine with iOS7 and my iphone works fine on iOS8 on the same network (as do my PCs and other wifi devices).

It seems the only solution is to downgrade the ipad to iOS7 but this is not supported by Apple.

It's pretty poor that Apple haven't bothered to make a statement on what they are doing to fix it. My ipad is a useless lump of metal until it's fixed.

PROBABLY THE BIGGEST SCREW-UP  SINCE THE DAY APPLE WAS FOUNDED.

Screwing up the very life-line and life blood of IPad and IPhone  : WiFI and Internet Access !!! Unbelievable.

A product brand marketed and known for RELIABILITY and USER-FRIENDLI, is now turned

    otherwise.

Aftermthis, Samsung is laughing loudly all the way to the bank.

OS 8 is not only terrible, IT IS HORRIBLE.

I had to shelve my Ipad 4 Retina until this is obnoxious OS 8 bug fixed,  and forced to buy me  a Samsung's Galaxy for my work and business.

I have been having the same wifi issues on my iPad mini retina...spoke to Apple and went through many different actions to resolve the problem which didn't work ..so my case went forward to their engineers . Basically they believe it's probably a software issue and have advised to simply wait for the ios 8 update. Its  pretty **** that we spend so much on their products yet they can still release iOS updates with major problems. No mention of when this update will happen but it should hopefully be soon. MAKE SURE YOU LET APPLE ENGINEERS KNOW OF THE iSSUES YOU ARE HAVING SO THEY CAN REALISE HOW WIDESPREAD THE PROBLEM MAY BE AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL HURRY UP. I don't think they pay attention to these forums.

Have an iPhone 4s. Updated to iOS by backing up phone to iTunes hardwired. Updated via Restore/Update while hardwired.

First problem noticed is Facebook quitting on launch. Resorted to deleting and redownloading facebook app which seems to have resolved it but still funky issues with the app.

Bigger issues I've noticed since the update are lower battery life. I've also noticed that wifi is randomly dropping connection repeatedly.

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPhone 5s, ipad air and ipad 3, I immediately started having wifi  issues. I'm  connecting to a new airport extreme with a 2.4 SSID and 5.0 SSID. The 2.4 always worked best on these devices so I connected to it and it stayed that way. Starting right after the I stall of IOS 8, they started connecting to the 5.0 SSID everytime I woke then up.

Now the new iPhone 6 works best with the 5.0 SSID getting a 264mb connection to the APPLE Extreme and a 64mb on Speed Test. It to was switching SSIDs (2.4) and would be lucky to get 4mb on Speed Test.

I now have made sure I've set each device to Forget the offending SSID and seems to have helped for about 3 days now.

Same issues for me here after installing IOS 8 on my iPad 4 and iPhone 5.

Having difficulties accessing wi-fi in many of the places I did before without any problems. Also, my iPhone drained the battery in a few hours after a full charge day after installing IOS 8. Usage indicated that Siri used 75% of it, so I had to turn Siri off. I always kept Siri on before.

Hope we get a patch soon...this in unacceptable.
