Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I wonder (as I asked earlier) if Android OS devices have all these problems.  I don't know.  If they were not subject to problems every time a new Android OS upgrade would come out, that would be the way to go.

Unfortunately, I have no help for you, just wondering out loud.

Based on my experiences (described a few posts back) I will focus my attention going forward on 3rd party workarounds (such as the "Reflector" software I mentioned) for problems Apple should fix.

Let's keep having meaningful discussions people.  This WIFried problem is not only starting to be taken seriously but new websites are starting to pick up on it.  If the issue is IOS8 or hardware in certain devices hopefully Apple will admit it and make it right.

The Forbes article uses THIS THREAD as proof for its allegations.  Are you familiar with the term "circular logic?"

    Let's see...

According to your second link "Although, the Apple iOS 8.2 has its share of glitches, but it also has some useful feature additions, bug fixes and performance improvements. Overall the new iOS upgrade looks like a success, and we suggest Apple users to go for the update!"

Your first and third links both use THIS THREAD as "proof" of the allegations.  Just as with gadgetadam, this is total circular logic, also known as total BS.

Reading through the Forbes article I noticed another "problem" with reduced battery life. My phone has needed charging much more often, and I would be lucky to go 5 hours on a full charge (average use)

I had thought it was just general deterioration. But could it be because of IOS8 msubs using more power to try to connect?

I wonder if your post will disappear? I had a post deleted by apple some weeks ago because it had a link to the wifried site which mentions jailbraking and I had another post taken down today which had nothing more scandalous than a few details of my 15 year involvement in the mobile phone repair industry!

    It is.

When the bug exhibits itself with the 'very short range' or 'rejecting wi-fi password symptoms, the phones wi-fi transmit power is incrementally increased to full power at distances from the WAP that would normally require much less power and thus battery usage is much more. 5 hours seems a little dramatic but it also depends what other usage is going on.

If you would condescend to reading the T&C for the forum, you'd be well aware why your posts were removed.

Philly_Phan.  There is no reason to be rude.  I was simply pointing out that the problems we're having and discussing on this forum is starting to seep out to more places.  Remember when the iPhone 4 had the deathgrip problem?  Apple REFUSED to acknowledge that their product was flawed in any way.  I have an associates degree in electronics and knew the exposed metal antenna was the problem.  Apple tried to blow it off saying that people were holding it the wrong way.  Eventually after public pressure then never said it was a MAJOR design flaw.  They simple said they'll give everyone bumpers.  Apple has shown that they will avoid at all cost admitting fault until the public pressure gets too bad.  Hopefully what we're discussing here will get out and they will be forced to acknowledge a problem and forced to fix it.

IOS8 is a gamble for a few but once they upgrade and they starting having WIFI issues there is no turning back.  Apple's IOS8 can break some of Apple's devices.  It's that simple.

You have 12,200 points.  Good for you but please don't let your favoritism for Apple make you deny what people are talking about.  We all are pointing our fingers at IOS8 because of what are personally experiencing.

If you look at the URL for the WIFried site it's odd.  Odd as in has a special character in it.  I THINK that's why it's getting removed.  I've posted a few links and they're all still there(as far as I know).  I don't think it's because of the Terms of Use.

So if someone sees and hears something from some people they are not allowed to possible believe it might be true?  Why are you defending Apple so much?  Let me ask you a question.  Did Apple design the iPhone 4 incorrectly causing the deathgrip?

I love this circular logic.  Joe makes a point and to prove the point, he quotes a statement from Harry but Harry's statement quotes Joe.  And on and on and on...

I'm not defending Apple.  I'm disagreeing with the validity of using circular logic.
