Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

You can't answer the question because if you say yes they designed the iPhone 4 incorrectly causing the deathgrip you are admitting Apple can make MAJOR mistakes.  If you say no then you are defending them even with it's clear they are at fault.

By refusing to answer my question you have shown that you are single sided on the issue that just because Apple has not admitted a problem with IOS8 then therefore there must not be a problem, oh wait isn't that circular logic?  HAHA right back at ya!

If facts bother you, don't read them.

Or perhaps someone complained about your circular logic?

I think when I got the email about the first deleted post it said 'mentioning jail-braking' which I actualy didn't, I just linked explanation on the wifried site, but at the time (back at the beginning of this thread) they were deleting quite a few posts.

But you seem to have strong opinions about the wifi issue, including people with products you do not (or have not) owned

So whats the difference? Is it because someone dares criticise? Or could you be wrong?

And I fully expect this comment to be removed for violating T&Cs

Then why do you post links to other sites when those sites use your words here as their proof?

By the way, what "results" are you getting?

As a way to show this forum is getting more attention and we need to keep being vigilant about our problems.

You want to know what my responses were with the questions?  No, you don't deserve to see them.  Maybe when I see that you're not posting Apple is perfect posts then I'll post them.

No, you didn't answer.  You kept saying you never owned an iPhone 4.

Well I must say it’s inspiring to see such distinguished group of contributors engaged in such intelligent dialog!  And harken!  I haven’t seen a fresh “iOS 8x” broke my wi-fi” claim from the likes of new poster “Stange_Bubbles”, “gasman_128” “splinter_head” or “butt_bouncer” for several pages back!  Hmmm…

Multi-Alias man!  Better get back to posting the OS 8.x propaganda or risk having all those "tech writers" stop posting “wi-fried” articles based on this thread (again)…

or… start posting here to draw Apple users back home!

Just to be clear, this whole IOS8 mess lies squarely with Apple, they have two simple choices:

    FIx the IOS8/wifi issues

Alow users to revert back to IOS7

The trouble is, the IOS8 issue has dragged on for so long now I fear that corporate hubris may prevent them from releasing a fix (on the basis it would force Apple to admit to having made mistakes).

There is always a pivotal moment in any large corporation's history when things start to turn badly wrong and it may be the case for Apple that the IOS8 debacle is this one event.

There is no iOS 8 "mess".  There are imperfections in all technology. This is illustrated in my post above yours (click the link/read). I doubt very seriously that Apple, Samsung or any other mega tech company will fall because they don't "fix" imperfections for small percentages of users.  That's just the way it is. Rolling back to an old unsupported OS ain't gonna happen either.  So... eventally Apple (and Samsung's) small percentage of owners who can't/won't achieve wi-fi propagation synergy will figure things out or move on.
