Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

When first updated to IOS 8, had the wi-fi problem at home, rendering my ipad air worthless.  Made appt with Genius Bar and brought ipad to my office, where it worked fine.  Reading this thread, I realized that going to the GB was a waste of time, so canceled.  Then took ipad back home and - voila - it worked perfectly fine.  I did not change any setting or do anything with the wi-fi router.  Total mystery to me, but I'm back to normal.

MacRumors.com just announced that Apple has had the iOS 8.0.1 update in the pipe for a while. Among the bugs it addresses are:

    - Phone: Addresses bugs with call forwarding and freezing when accessing visual voicemail

    - Keyboard: Fixes an issue with keypad not appearing to enter iCloud Keychain verification codes

    - Safari: Fixes a problem with videos occasionally not playing

    - Sharing: Fixes AirDrop support for Passbook passes

    - VPN: Addresses an issue with installing VPN profiles

No word on the WiFi and other network issues we've been having, though.

I'm having a similar issue. I eventually lose internet connection when connected to WIFI (browser, email, Twitter, etc.) - just the spinning circle. When I disconnect the WIFI and go to LTE nothing changes - still the spinning circle. Reboot the phone and everything is fine again, until it eventually happens again. Router is an ASUS.

As suggested earlier, these work arounds worked on all my iDevices on different networks:

    - Change the Wifi router bands (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz) to both automatich channel selection (earlier they were on fixed values)

    - Disable the Wifi Location services for Wi-Fi Networking (Settings, Privacy, Location Services, System Services [it is at the very bottom of the list], Wi-Fi Networking, switch it off). Restart device

Hope it will work for you infill further news from Apple.

Last Friday i.e 09/19 received IPhone 6. Phone was received with multiple defects..I see following issues in my Iphone 6.

      1. Wifi is not working. Some times it recognizes my wireless network and some times it won't. If you go very close to router(one feet or so) i can see my network. this is also not consistent.  But my iPhone5 works fine with wifi (without ios8 upgrade)

    2. Speaker phone is not working. Other person wont here any thing if i use speaker.. I think apple coded mute for speaker

    3. Volume is very very low (even with max volume).. cont hear other person voice itself

It looks APPLE started testing after launch from IPhone 5. IPhone 5 was lauched with couple of issues like maps/volume issues etc.. Now APPLE started testing end to end after launch..I just took appointment with retail store.. let me see what they respond.

I had these problems and managed two workarounds (probably already mentioned) which both work - although the 5GHz link has to be nearer the router than the 2.4GHz:

    1. Force the iPad to connect via 2.4GHz, by setting up a new SSID on the router and linking to that;

    2. When linking to 5GHz set the router to (in my case)  channel 44 (it was on 'auto' and using channel 48)

You may have to do things like forget the network, and reconnect as well as any other bits of resetting in order to tidy things up.

Me too.  I bought an iPhone 6 and am having these connectivity issues, as well.  My iPad Air has the iOS 8 upgrade and has also acted up a couple of times.  It shows good signal strength, but acts like it's not pinging.  I have to restart the device and it starts working again (for a while).  Very frustrating.

The same has been going on for me too. My iPad air is now useless.. I have to use my LTE data at home, and that is just not ideal.
