Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Well i thought you where here to help users... So If i asked for help... you dont care? Some much for help... This forum is exciting! Amazing that the pros with all the points don't like the fact that a level one with zero points figured it out... You all keep calling us a zeros.... Well look what the zero just figured out...  Well when it gets fixed..... millions of you are welcome...

Ask for help in a thread with the same subject matter rather than being disrepectful to the people who want help with WiFi issues in this thread. Your topic is unrelated.

I did that.. Only one of the pros with all the points jumped in and posted before verifying... I can't help it if nobody looks on a simple website to verify if my facts are correct... Yet you tell me to start my own thread but apparently you didn't know to click my name and check activity and verify that I had started my own thread before you started insults... I gave you the Google fiber IPv6 DNS a few pages ago to help but everybody jumped on me saying I don't see how it's going to work before anybody tested it and a few users DID test it and say it helped... For some reason I need to explain every minuscule detail IPv6 tunnels down to IPV four so if you use the Google fiber IPv6 that I left in your iPhone or iPad the request will go over the IPv6 and directed to the closest IPV four to you and then directed to your location...  Here it is again...  So here I am offering help are you going to try it or offer insults?

I figured at least one of you would've tested and verified to back me up but that didn't happen considering that the facts are on Apple's website and it amazes me that all of you complain your Wi-Fi isn't working at 100% now find out that your display is only working at 50% and don't want it to work at 100%....

    This form is exciting!!!

But I'm not interested in display working at 50% as I don't use that feature. If I did I'm sure there is a separate forum for that

My concern is over reliability of wifi since IOS8 came out

Youtube? Many apps other than Netflix and iTunes still flow default 720 P file to your screen that is supported 1080 P.... So you do not realize how many times you are using your device and not getting its full capabilities instead of arguing with me and stepping back for a minute and trying to realize what I discovered you just want to keep smashing your head against the wall... This forum is exciting when you ask for help!!!

You dont use the display? You dont use the screen? How do you us the phone then? From what I understand you need to screen every time you unlock the phone to access any of your email...  dial a number... send a text message... you are using the screen with every thing you do with the phone...

Obviously I use the screen on both devices, but for making calls & sending texts (on the iphone) and looking at the internet and using apps on the iphone & ipad

For the phone (calls & texts) what difference would your tips make? I see the contacts or keypad clearly as aren't they on the phone (not streamed)? When using the internet I do not watch videos and as long as I can view the page that's fine

But I would like to be able to use the internet without the wifi dropping out. Is your solution going to fix that?

Did tou try Google fiber IPv6 DNS and did you run a DNS benchmark from your home system to verify you have the best DNS provider? I tried to help a few pages ago but instantly got attacked for my ideas as being useless before any of the pros even verified but some of the users did do it and they said it helped... And try to jump on me and say I only have IPV four so IPv6 won't work when I tried to explain to them that IPv6 will be used on the system outside of your house and it will tunnel down to the IPV4 when it comes back to your location and then directed to you... Yet the pros didn't want to try that just wanted to keep telling me that the idea was useless so why did the other users who tried say they noticed improvement?

Put this on the DNS line in your Wi-Fi

I did change the DNS when it was suggested some time ago (probably 20 pages back)

It has definitely improved the speed by at least 10% - but unfortunately still drops out. I suppose being faster there is more chance of pages loading, but I still need to keep logging on

Changing the DNS may have an effect on your internet connection speed (between the router and the internet). To the best of my knowledge, it won't have any effect on the connection between the device and the router.

All I know is I ran speed test on my devices, then changed DNS & ran again. It showed improvement on device

To double check I changed back to default DNS & speed dropped on device

OK... How many devices are connected to wifi... Apple tv? Etc? Try unpluging one at a time and see if dropping one helps fix it... My Apple tv was only problem i had... Needed to connect it with internet cable... All issues gone when i removed Apple tv from wifi network... No idea why it wont work correctly. But it was the problem... Try removing one device at the time...  Obviously not your phone...

see we are fixing the bugs... Just have a little patience... I don't mind helping I'm just asking for a little help on my thread but I instantly got attacked. I know not everyone cares about what resolution video streams to the device not everyone watches movies or Netflix but this problem is much older than the Wi-Fi problem....  I was just giving everyone a FYI when I posted the information in this thread... I figured some of the pros would've known to check my activity and see that I had posted a previous thread and then would've started their attacks on that thread but they apparently didn't realize that I had already started a thread before they started the insults... All they could do was find little things in my post to attack but they never attacked my facts... Because those are posted on the Apple website and I did makethem up...

To your best knowledge? Yeah that sounds like someone who tested and verified... Sounds like to me that someone who is making assumptions and doesn't know... I think it is best if the pros don't know they shouldn't say anything... Either that or they should go test and verify and then post because then they will actually know what they're talking about.... It's called integrity...

Absolutely, but the speed gain is how the router is conneting to the interent. If that had fixed your issue, you'd know the problem wasn't, in fact a WFi issue at all.
