Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

My comments are on here in the vain hope that Apple might actually take notice.

Apple already took notice and responded when you went to the store.

DDear Philly_Phan, when I was at school we had an English lesson called "comprehension" which was all about reading and understanding what hat been written. If you look at what elcpu wrote this was actually "Thank you for posting your issues. I have been following this thread for a while, over 100 pages by now, and while various individuals report no problems, the vast majority state that they developed issues with Wi-Fi after iOS 8." So in this case, "the vast majority" is not the entire Apple user base, rather thos that have posted on this thread. So in fact, the only " joke" aallegation is yours.

    Dear Donny,

If you're having a problem with an Apple product, take it up with Apple.  There is not benefit to aggravating other Apple product owners.

SSorry but I don't have a clue about what you have posted. I commented on how you had misinterpreted what elcpu had actually written, so not sure how I have  aggrieved other Apple product owners ?

"I was told by an AppleCare Level 2 tech that developing iOS 8.2 for the upcoming Apple Watch was taking precedence over “issues”.

"iOS 8.2 for the upcoming Apple Watch"?

Is there anything you can clarify re: this?  Has iOS 8.1 for the Apple Watch already been released?

OF course it has, and replaced by 8.2 already,

As this is a thread for those suffering IOS8 related wifi issues what do you expect the "vast majority" of posts to be about? Soccer?

Well someone I was responding to had their post removed but in case they're reading still here it is:

Actually I'm pretty much posting as an Apple fan (you bet) to keep unsuspecting readers aware of the many imposters here claiming to have "uncorrectable" wi-fi problems.  Typically they'll report insurmountable problems on multiple devices (oh yes - one or two work fine).  They keep posting the same general script over and over again. Most likely they are paid employees of competing companies. The fact that they're so bad at it makes the process fun and extremely satisfying.  Meanwhile, for anyone looking for real help, go back and check out my posts - particularly the ones listing those who took the time to report back what they did to help themselves.

LOL, since you have zero points it is obvious that you have not helped anyone.

Thanks for agreeing with me that of course the majority of posts are about wi-fi issues related to IOS 8, and that Philly_Phan got it wrong when he said "Actually, it's a very tiny minority." when he misquoted what elcpu had written.

It's a tiny minority out in the world, here, in a thread dedicated to the subject it's not, but that is as expected

Actually, there are a very small number of people still complaining about Wi-Fi problems in this thread... it's basically the same few continuing to complain over and over again.  I initially had the Wi-Fi issue, but the various IOS 8 updates seemed to have fixed it.  I'm guessing this hold true for the majority, since there are very few people still complaining.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, the updates didn't fix anything (not that Apple said they would as they seem to be in denial that there is an issue to start with).

I had no wifi acces issues with IOS7 but since IOS8 arrived I have had big problems which successive updates have failed to fix.
