Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Somehow yes and I OS update could cause a hardware failure but the thing is it was done by an iOS update  I am on my third device now haven't changed it each time and I still had the same problem

I'm not sure how that answers my question: On what do you base your statement  that a hardware failure right after an iOS update is "extremely unlikely"? Are you suggesting that a hardware failure at that point is less likely than at other points? If so why do you think that?

IIt would have to be a complete failure on all devices for it to be a system failure surely. I have gone through three devices since ios8 they all have the same problems so now I have just given up. I don't want to change as I like the apple product in general I just have to turn off cellular data on most of my apps. This way I won't eat into my monthly data. I do not believe they will ever fix this. I have iPhones and iPads I like them. I wish I could change to something else but I don't want to.

If you look through the comments on this topic, the "bug" is different to what you describe.

Some people, including myself, have found that wi-fi keeps dropping out then reconnecting. It has been suggested it may be something with IOS8 but that has not been proven, and I believe Apple are investigating

You say that wi-fi cannot be turned on and Bluetooth doesn't work. So a total failure does suggest it is hardware related - I'm no expert but I'm sure someone could confirm if both wi-fi and Bluetooth use the same aerial?

WIFi and Bluetooth are both handled by the same Broadcom chip. If both functions fail it's quite likely a hardware problem with that chip.

Try the suggestions here to see if they resolve your problem:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559

If these don't work you probably have a hardware problem. Visit an Apple store for an evaluation or contact Apple Support.

I might give it a shot.  I don't care what anyone says all of my symptoms point to IOS8.x.  My problems started happening right after I installed it and no I don't have a "modified" ipad that begins with the letter J.

IOS 8.x pre 8.2 my WIFI would slow down to dial up speeds but only when I had my bluetooth on.  If my bluetooth was off my WIFI speeds were normal.

IOS 8.2 my WIFI would slow down to dial up speeds but only when I was streaming audio to my bluetooth speaker.  At least I could have my bluetooth on.

All the Apple fan boys here blamed EVERYTHING but IOS 8.x like they keep doing weeks after my last post.  It even got to a point where they were personally attacking, making fun of, and mocking people on this forum they're trying to help.  Every post is the same.  No there are no problems with IOS8 from them over and over.  If you debated with them they refused to listen to you and made fun of you.  Nice right?  Apple has directly contacted me along with others but even that they refuse to take into account.  Since then I've been banned from the forum for a week due to inappropriate comments.  Those comments were me discussing a term that some have deemed to be in IOS 8 issue causing WIFI problems.  I don't' want this post deleted so I'm not going to mention it or try to mention it without using keywords.  Everyone knows what I mean.  A lot of the Apple fan boys were saying I had hardware issues but I disagreed with them.  Since then I reset my iPad to factory defaults wiping out everything and my WIFI problem is still there when I stream to my bluetooth speaker but nearly not as bad.  If it was hardware then the problem would still be there so the Apple fan boys were incorrect blaming my hardware.  Once again I took drastic steps to prove it was NOT a hardware issue.  Oh yea and this problem happened on multiple wireless networks so that whole debate about me buying a new AP/Router is invalid.

Anyway I'm going to try 8.3 as I really don't have anything to lose but I can say I do not think it is a hardware issue, at least with my case and I still blame IOS 8 as that is when I started having problems along with others here.

I normally don't like saying things like this but since some on this thread have been rude, uncaring, and worrying more about defending Apple rather than admit there MIGHT be a fault with IOS8........................SEE, WE TOLD YOU THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH IOS 8.0-8.2!

I'm installing 8.3 on my iPad but I will not install it on my iPhone as this has opened up my eyes to one thing.  That one thing is Apple eventually will get around to fixing something but will leave their customers hanging until then in not only an unknown state but with a degraded device.  I feel as if I, or should I say we have lit a fire under Apple's rear forcing them look into all of these issues that we've been experiencing forcing them to do something.  That doesn't mean I have more faith in Apple but now I won't install an IOS update until the other fools point out any issues before I upgrade.  I was the fool before but not any more.

SStill kind off wifi related but since iOS 8.3 is anyone having trouble streaming video via AirPlay now from iPhone or iPad to Apple TV. Mine is a second gen Apple TV but it's freezing and stuttering like anything now. Other AirPlay streaming like music or pictures are fine but videos I've taken on my photos app are awful now. Anyone notice this? It's hit all three of our iPads and the iPhone - tried both 2.4 and 5 ghz spectrums and also my other wifi access point. Wonder if anyone else can test this
