Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I have the same issue but in reverse.. Since my cell phone provider (t-mobile) has terrible coverage in my area I rely on the VOIP to receive and make calls. If I am on the Wifi (VOIP enable), I can make a call no problem... after hanging up and letting my phone sit for a few minutes, even though I'm still showing wifi connectivity, the phone drops the VOIP connection.. I have to refresh the wifi (choose a network) and then my phone reconnects the VOIP

you can see when you are on VOIP when at the top next to the cell reception bars you see T-Mobile WiFi..

On top of all this... IF I connect and VOIP is active, then I open pandora and have music streaming fro three hours or so, the VOIP never drops out!

same thing happens when I run a continuous ping application..

    c

Yup. For me too - drops in few minutes.

If iPhone is downloading something - it does not disconnect,

If I keep ping application on - it does not disconnect.

The post above by Delid4ve, as well as those by London_Lad, GadgetAdam and others, are the type we need here. London-Lad summarized good results with 8.3, Delid4ve and others were not as fortunate. Both types of reports are valuable, they provide feedback to other users and also to Apple (and yes, Apple reads these forums contrary to what some say). So thank you to those that have taken the time to list their experiences. Some of us appreciate your efforts. Hopefully 8.3.x will provide additional fixes.

No, those are not the ones that made this forum as successful as it is.  Individuals like Csound deserve the credit for that.

This at least confirmation that, although I am a senior citizen, I have not lost my mind. I have spoken to several people and they are having issues also. I did manage to speak to Apple. They denied there were any others having issues with the 8.3 update. Guess we'll

have to wait for someone to get a conscience or a clue about how to fix this.

But remember that Apple denied there was a problem with any version of IOS8 (as did many people on here)

Can you post a link to Apple's statement that there was no problem?

Well that is something of which I was not aware. Now if we could all just pull ourselves together and "get along", as a community of concerned users of these wonderful products; maybe we could save the world:)

I don't think Apple has denied there was a problem because Apple never admits faults.  Their silence is enough.  An example of this is the recent issue where IOS 8.3 broke TouchID support for iTunes and App Store purchases for some random amount of users.  Out of nowhere it was resolved without end users  doing anything nor any acknowledgement from Apple.  That's why we're all frustrated.  Apple won't acknowledge if there is a problem or not and that leaves us hanging wondering.  This discussion is filled with complaints of people having to type in their WIFI password multiple times.  When IOS 8.3 came out the list specifically included that fix.  That shows that some complaints here are in fact valid and real.  If Apple won't come out and say if there is a problem or not it's discussions like that that validate our suspicions that there might be a bug and we're left waiting to see if an update will fix our problems.  It not how a company should treat their customers.  I know for a fact Apple monitors this forum and it's people like us that voice up with a problem gets to Apple's hears and hopefully they take us seriously and do something about it.

It's upsetting that some here are speaking on behalf of Apple saying there isn't a problem.

Some here are saying their is not a SYSTEMIC problem, I've seen that, but I have yet to see anyone say that there is no problem at all, perhaps you could quote some of these posts that you see.

If you are not replying why are you replying?

It's hard to match what you say with what you do.

But it is clear that you can not back up what you say with a quote, quelle surprise

I am quite happy with my ipad air ios 7.12. I reverted it back from 8 as soon as I found it was working so bad with wifi and airplay streaming connected with timecapsule latest model. Now I need to use an ios 8 app but I know there is a big risk. Should I have to close my eyes and do It?

Have you got another device (iPhone, iPod) that you could check IOS8 on? I found all my devices had the same problem with IOS8 but an old iPod with IOS7 was OK

If IOS8 then works it SHOULD be OK on your iPad - but with Apple you never know.....

As most of us are aware, two individuals had been posting insulting / rude comments on this thread in violation of Apple’s Terms of Use Agreement. These individuals apparently felt that they were immune to the ToU since they have a high level of Apple points. Regardless of their level, all posters need to abide by the ToU or risk loosing their posting privileges.

On Tuesday April 14 I emailed the Apple Support Communities moderator and reported these two individuals to the moderator. Hopefully this will allow the rest of us to post issues and potential solutions without offensive / rude commentary.
