Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

No problem.  You weren't looking for help, anyway.

Time for another wifi "i fixed my own stuff" success story roundup!

    Carlcats:

(Paraphrasing) ...my main issue is maintaining a stable connection with router in order to maintain a stable VOIP connection. I decided to take them up on a $25 new Asus Router RT AC68U. Its been a week and have had only one dropped connection since the new ios 8.3 update. Not yet sure still running tests, but on the 5Ghz frequency my connection is stable

I had the same problem on the devices I updated through wifi, a restore as new, then restore of my iCloud back up fixed the issue.

Strange comment from don_wan "really sorry I can't give you any points for helping". Wonder why he mentioned? Interesting after the various comments about points

Even stranger "Philly_Phan, thanks for the reply I'm pleased your 4s is working fine" as about a month ago an issue was raised about 4S and Philly_Phan said he couldn't comment as he'd never had a 4s

So why comment on something you don't know about?

On Wednesday 22nd of April I emailed the Apple Support Communities moderator and reported two individuals to the moderator.

Thanks, but not sure it will do any good. I recall someone reported some individuals before (certain the same ones) but it hasn't made any difference. They feel they do not have to abide by the rules as they are experts

Certain people have referred to the Communities Use Agreement. But many recent comments indicate they are the ones who should read them, in particular

Be polite. Everyone should feel comfortable reading Submissions and participating in discussions. Apple will not tolerate flames or other inappropriate statements, material, or links. Most often, a "flame" is simply a statement that is taunting and thus arbitrarily inflammatory. However, this also includes those which are libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, objectionable, discriminatory, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.

Continually belittling people because they do not have thousands of points, so do not have any opinion worthwhile (in these individuals own opinion) is surely contrary to the above?

Other comments many times each day, bragging about how many points they have, and how many people they have helped (mostly it seems by basic “reset phone” suggestions) could be classed as taunting

A recent example “Do not tell me what to post, you also have provided no help that any other poster felt worthy of note. Riddick posts rubbish and lies and then is unable to back them up, as far as I know you are the same. Your reputation is at Zero, that tells me all I need to know and reminds me not to follow your suggestion.”

This is a tech support forum, your posts have nothing to do with that, or the topic of the thread. I shall report them for removal.

Why are you making inquiries of a personal nature, it is none of your business what others choose to do, (unless they do it to you) Look after your own house,

You need a reputation level before you can report people. You have none, so be it.

Yesterday you commented "Is it normal for you to answer questions addressed to others. How do you know who supplied the router? maybe the one questioned should answer, you have no information."

But you frequently comment on questions addressed to others
